I just saw Monarch and it had amazing anamorphic shots, but the look was nothing like i'd ever seen before, so I did a little research and ended up here. Needs more barrel distortion IMHO😂

Oh yea! Had it not been for the bokeh I would've thought that show was shot spherical. Since there's very little distortion and almost zero lens flair. Arri makes lots of crisp inconspicuous anamorphics. Master anamorphics have it beat in that regard though since ALFAs have that edge falloff. I think John Wick 4 utilizes these lenses the best. Though I personally prefer Panavision anamorphics.

Love that his approach puts character and emotion at the fore. I also love the look of almost any film shot at 1.85:1! It might not be as 'cinematic' at the theatre, but at home where all the rewatches happen it looks incredible.

What was the most annoying thing for me is the extensive use of wide angle lenses zoom in faces almost all the time. The distortion and closeness to the weird faces of the characters was too much for me. What a shame. Just needed a little more breath room it felt very unsettling

I don't understand. How do studios make Alexa footage look like movies when the same footage from the same camera looks more like video from a hobbyist? And it can even be a simple location but the difference is still significant in terms of look (cinematic).

Months of prep work, storyboarding, hours of set making, shot fixing for each take, lighting, art direction, costumes, cinematography, right lensing & color grade play a huge role. And let's not forget about the hundreds of millions spent that bring the best crew working to achieve a common goal.

pro push contrast especially at shadows, it only work on hi-end noise free video as in this camera. In other words, try to lower basic gamma settings in post processing like normal gamma intended to be 2.4 but you must push it to -20% or even more. Or apply S- curve contrast, it almost same. On cheap camera footage you get almost black crashed image, but on high-end camera you get juicy fades near blacks.

These might just be the best anamorphic lenses ever created. I love the strong anamorphic characteristics, while still have low distortion and minimal breathing. Sort of like the master anamorphics, but softer. Love it! I just wish the video was in 4k.
