Please stop calling Danny “underrated”. When he was alive he topped every readers poll and critical survey. He’s the rock star here, although Albert is the smoothest and Vince has the best tone.

Brilliant performance by all. Danny's solos are amazing but I'm taken by his organ voicings when he comps - and then he adds some trem and really captures the vibe.

Danny pretty much wiped the floor, even though the guy on fiddle held his own! Danny has to be one of the most underappreciated guitarists of all time. If it wasn't for KZbin I would have never heard of this guy and I've been playing guitar 52 years!! RIP Danny!

Sometimes he ran his guitar through a Leslie speaker(I think -- I'm not a musician) to get this effect. Not my favorite sound, but who am I to say? 😎

The ridiculously good playing is one thing but the other aspect is that he seems to know exactly what the other musicians are going to play before they play it and he sets them up for the next part. My God that is excellent stuff.

Danny had played with them extensively, which is why, I think, they had something close to telepathy. You can find some good Danny videos on YT: search for Mark Tryon, Warren K, and my other stuff (not to boast...😁)

Look out -- here's your crash course! Go to KZbin and search on "Danny Gatton". Step 1: add wgbader to the search. Step 2: Change wgbader to "Warren K" and repeat. Step 3: Change "Warren K" to "Mark Tryon" and repeat. You'll find false hits so keep scrolling. Step 4: Go to www.discogs.com/artist/400732-Danny-Gatton and search Amazon for his catalog. Many are on KZbin also. Step 5: Play everything loud! BTW, there are lots of short excerpts to hunt for.

@@davidhayes7596 I knew I forgot something. Go to tela.sugarmegs.org/. In the alphabet section near the left click "d" then scroll down to the dannygatton section (he alphabetizes on the first name). You'll find a boatload of live Danny Gatton shows along with setlists. You can download them with Firefox, not Google Chrome. You can keyword search by anything that's on the setlists, including personnel, song titles, venues, instruments, etc. Experiment with it. BTW, if you like Duane Allman, there are about 60 Duane-era ABB shows.

How do you think he became one of the "greatest" guitar players in the world? By turning down a six day a week gig? This gig was a Sunday, so maybe a seven day a week gig. These guys did deserved to be playing in front of a much larger audience. Forty or fifty people for sure, in a Holiday Inn. If they were playing in front of a thousand people it would be because they were selling out. I don't think Danny Gatton ever sold out. This is damn good music.

Albert & Vince deserve Guitar Player Medals Of Honor just for having the sheer guts to strap on a guitar on the same stage as Danny Gatton. On his 1st solo, you can see how messed up Vince's head is after Danny Gattling Gun shot up that town. Not that there is any reason to diss on Vince - he is a great, killer guitarist. But clearly the man is scufflin' on that 1st solo, just trying to remember his own name after Danny beat the living hell out of that tune. Hello! Priceless.

Gatton was flat out bad ass. While Joe Pass was an incredible jazz virtuoso (and others) I believe Danny took it to another level. This is hard work and too, a God gifted talent for sure. Shame more people didn't realize how special he was. Maybe he didn't even know the extent of his awesomness.

Danny Gatton’s greatest strengths were mastery of the Telecaster and being capable of playing a variety of genres convincingly, neither of which he’s doing here. I also imagine he’d have been the first to say he’s not a chord melody master or solo jazz player on the level of Joe friggin’ Pass. I loved Danny Gatton but comments like this almost do him a disservice.

I think Danny knew his awesomeness, but his ego was secure and he was just very matter of fact about it. Based on the date of this recording, this performance was shortly after Danny came out after him taking a break of a couple of years after he injured his hand working on a car. This isn’t his strongest jazz work. Check out his recording with Joey DeFrancesco for some really hot playing.
