I bought a 383 69' RR right out of High School in the 70s, kept it until the mid late 80s. The drive train was strong but as they age the steering in these and all A and B body mopars get loose and sloppy. Suspension and body bushings wear out greatly affecting handling and ride comfort. The engines and trans are good but like most cars back then do to the gasket material technology back then they develop leaks, seeps and weeps oil. Today modern sealant and gasket technology will remedy that. We have had several A and B body mopars in our family and they all lose ride quality. We have also had GM and Ford wihich maintain a quality ride much much longer. The full size mopars like the Furys from the same era maintain a quality ride much longer...not sure why.

Beautiful color. This was what I wanted back in the late 70's when I was a teenager. Instead at 17 back in 79' I got the 75' trans am with the tiresome 200hp 455 automatic VS. the 315 HP SD 455. Only had it for 3 months before trading evenly for a 68' barracuda formula S 340- 4 SPD he kept saying are you sure you want to trade for this nice trans am 😂 about a month later he said he regretted his choice!

The final hinges will step in, to match the offset profile, this was preferred over disrupting the aesthetic of the recessed panel

How come you didn't leave some raise material for the hinge to finish onto? looks like you bought the wrong hinges .
@MuscleCarRestorationsInc
@MuscleCarRestorationsInc 5 ай бұрын
It was not mentioned in the video, however, the final hinges will have a profile matching the one on the tailgate skin. This way we do not disturb the lines of the recessed panel, instead the hinge will step in to match the skin.

Yes they were rated @425hp@5000. They peaked around 6000 and anywhere from 470-490hp. They used a laughable small cam and no electronic controls. They were very strong motors in their day and are still used to compare other engines.

We dyno'd a bone stock 50,000 mile solid cam HEMI motor and it didn't make anywhere near that power. I'm sure some aftermarket parts/blue printing.

It's odd that anyone would choose to build either version of the Oldsmobile 400's. Neither one was all that good, and the small bore long stroke version was downright a terrible engine.

It wasn’t a bad motor. Especially in W30 guise. 328 camshaft and 474 lift 108 overlap. They did what they could back then. So it’s under square, not ideal but. It bad.

The early 400 was an excellent engine. They had good power and received well. 1965-67 Olds Cutlass and 4-4-2s done well at the drags back in the day.
