Look up Tetkoba's channel on alcohol stoves made from soda cans. Tomshoo are copying his "ECHS" (easy capillary hoop stove) design. I have made one and I use it on solo trips instead of carrying an MSR Whisperlite. There's a huge weight saving. You can simmer with them by holding your billy/pot well above the 'tornado' flame pattern. An oven mitt from home helps with that! Cheers. 😀

I had a little injun scout camp stove when I was a kid. I used it a lot with kerosene lamp fuel. You dip the starter wick in kerosene and light the wick and hold the flame inside the ring coil. This heats up the fuel in the tank in a minute or so and so the pressurized vapor escapes through a small jet hole in the coil and gives a steady hot flame. My friend borrowed it and used white gas in it and it blew up. Follow the instructions on the can!!
@NLoutside75Ай бұрын
I had to go back and look at the video again I made a Long video too When I read the labels it said use kerosene but I thought it was a misprint because I have a taykit stove and that says use gasoline or Coleman fuel I never thought of trying kerosene because the taykit is the same idea just much better made Kerosene makes more sense because the stove burner is so thin I honestly don't trust this stove because it is not very well made at all Thanks for pointing that out I appreciate it

Hi. Thanks for this video! I found one of these reels cheap at a yard sale. Everything worked except the drag, so I figured I could fix it. Well, the oscillator plate (the plastic part) was cracked in multiple places. I found that the current model Goldcast III GC 80 uses the same part. (I think it was like $12, plus shipping). In fact, they are much the same reel, except the newer model has a graphite body and an extra ball bearing. There are only maybe three or four parts inside that are different, so you can still get almost all the parts to fix the old model from Daiwa. So, now my reel works great!
@NLoutside752 ай бұрын
@@johngehl3853 you're welcome I'm glad you got it working again Every one of those parts that I've seen have hairline or spiderweb cracks but will be fine as long as they are small They have made those reels for years and most parts should be interchangeable Thanks for watching
@johngehl38532 ай бұрын
Yeah, mine was cracked all the way through in a bunch of places so that the nut that the drag adjustment screw goes into would pop right out-thats why the drag didn't work to begin with.Still, I got a nice old Goldcast for under $20, all together. They go for a lot more than that on eBay, on the rare occasions when they show up (seems not many want to part with these reels), so I can't complain!

Hello. I have one and it works great, but I had to shelve it. When the temperature changes, the fuel will leak out of the orifice making a big hazardous mess. I don't have the funnel/cork thing that came with it that goes in the coil. Does the cork you use prevent it from leaking out? I'm wondering if I should go with natural cork, or a rubber one as my hardware sells both. Thank you!
@NLoutside753 ай бұрын
If that little hole isn't plugged off it will leak every time I would definitely try the cork I bought a 10 pack for only a few bucks and haven't had a leak since And with the cork it firs in place in the case perfectly Also make sure the gasket on the fill port isn't hardened I usually screw it in hand tight and loosen a tad Never have leaks

On the Yellow stove the brass fitting where the key is stored can be removed for easier filling of alcohol, also the fold out leg on the opposite side can be used as a handle to hold the stove with that opening downward and can help get rid of any remaining fluids or cleaning solvents by swinging this stove and using centrifugal force, similar to swinging a bucket of water with a hole at the bottom
