Some monster deer up there! That slow fuel flow is not normal and I'd figure out what's going on ASAP. There are arguments both ways for shut off valves. Kitfox does not show them in the installation manual. They can be restrictive. I'd get rid of them. Also, I'd replace any and all rubber lines from the tanks if they are old. Could have some deterioration going on in the lines causing fuel to slow. Obviously check the finger strainers in the tanks, especially the slow one. There is a vent line that runs from the header to the right tank. Usually it's thin clear tubing. It can kink very easily, especially when using zip ties for routing. If your getting fuel transfer from uncoordinated flight, it sounds like it's free and clear but still worth checking.

I built a Model IV Kitfox that I have now been flying for several years. Every year during the condition inspection I raise the tail to flying attitude and measure the fuel flow AFTER the fuel filter. I have always had over 15 gallons per hour. This is just gravity flow. Then I change the filter. I figure that takes care of most of the fuel flow issues. from the tanks to the fuel pump. Nice landing!!

I'm an old UL Pilot, a little over 200 hours in a Flightstar UL. I had two engine outs in those hours, one on takeoff when the Rotax 503 single ignition failed at about 150 feet, I was taught to use all the runway and just dropped the nose and put it back down. The second was a cold seizure on the engine at about 1500 feet agl. I found a convenient field and put it down. I caught one of your terraces and bounced back up in the air, put it back down pretty hard and had to do a gear repair but it is certainly a learning experience. I have a Kitfox 7 but I think the fuel system is basically the same. The vents face the wind creating positive pressure on the tanks. If one cap isn’t directly into the wind and the other is, it can create differential pressure and cause one tank to flow faster or fill the other tank. A bad fuel cap gasket can do it as well. Do you have the newer style fuel pump with the return line to the header tank? It helps reduce vapor lock. Nice dead stick landing BTW.
@dtwyckoff2 ай бұрын
@@bradsmith4004 I did upgrade the fuel pump. I heard the older ones failed often.

Header tank needs a cross fed vent system - The Nan Chang has a low header tank and all three tanks are vented. The Kit Fox I built had multiple vents and pick ups Header vent and pick up two inlets. Tanks had cross vented & cap vents with pick ops fore & aft tee to single line to header and a low fuel light on the header from an R-22 helicopter.
@GrimshawAviation2 ай бұрын
Kinda sounds like you might have a vent plugged. Usually for the fuel to drain it needs a way to vent the exchange of pressure for it to feed correctly. I would say look at all of the vents: CAP and bottom vent. Possible there is a clog in the lines, but very rare.
