The biggest mistake is put in that landscape fabric. The weeds would love that stuff and grow and nest in it.

I used that same membrane in my garden about 12 years ago. Big mistake, you need to use a non-woven membrane so the weeds have no way of piercing through and you need to pay attention to the edges.

So how long do they start to grow??? And do you need to place them in shaded area? Would putting the cutting right where the soil is from where it’s growing work as well. ?

Do you really keep autovents engaged during high winds? What happens when high winds arrive and a window is open? Won’t it potentially lead to a damaged window, or panes of glass being blown out?
@TheEnduringGardener
@TheEnduringGardener 6 ай бұрын
Some people in windy locations disengage them and tie them shut during storm season. It’s a good idea to do this.

Why does the color look so much more appealing in the beginning of the video?
@TheEnduringGardener
@TheEnduringGardener 6 ай бұрын
It’s darker in the beginning because it’s wet from the rain. I prefer it a lighter shade when it’s dry but that’s just a personal choice. If you like the darker shade then you could always oil it after you’ve cleaned it, that should have the same effect.

I never understood peat in compost to begin with. I make all my own compost with grass leaves weeds biochar seaweed and coffee grounds-not even animal manure and essentially whatever I can use. It’d cost a fortune add peat. I'm in the US so peat isn't a resource here but honestly, there are so many leaves full of minerals I can't fathom adding peat and my compost comes out super well.

I hope you have advice for me. My silver hebe was dying in the container so I figured it was cramped. I took it out and loosened up the roots (I did have to tear it out of the ground as it had gone through the pot), and replanted it, cutting it back quite a bit. There was very little fresh green buds and it doesn't seem to be recovering. Think it's lost altogether? Thanks!

My decking certainly didn't look all wonderfully clean after this treatment, but I think it has its uses. I hadn't done mine for two years and that's partly because it's such a big chore, need good weather etc to do it the way I normally do it (far more methodical). I think I'd have been inclined to do this at least once a year if I had seen this method, and therefore my decking would have been in better shape to start with. So as I am pressed for time atm I will finish with this, and maybe just do the methodical bit on the decking near the kitchen!

LOL, this guy has to fake the upward movement of the Okatsune to make his point. I own both, never have a problem with the handle want to slip upward. Rubbish/bias reviews. How much did he gets for trashing a great product by big brand but an obvious inferior competitor in Felco?

I just got my first Okatsune, and while I do like them....they are quite different to a Felco. I feel that Felco is overall better designed for gardeners that work for a living. For example; the handle is much more ergonomic, the catch for the thumb is also much quicker and easier to use if you frequently have to take out and reholster on the job, the rubber bumper reduces strain, and they are quicker to sharpen. They also don't get sticky so fast... However a well maintained Okatsu definitely makes a nicer, cleaner cut and doesn't need to be Sharpened so often, and I really like it for precision work.

Rubbish, I had mine for more than 10 yrs, no such sticky incident you mention. Ergonomic is a user preference, so I would give you that. My Gardener uses a Felco #2 until He tries my old trusty Okatsune. The feel of the cut is just night and day. @@radicalpaddyo

I can give you 5 reasons NOT to use peat free compost 1.its shit and nothing grows in in 2.excessive wood chip in peat free blocks nitrogen 3.the amount of wood chip used is decimating wildlife habitat and if you gonna say the wood is imported see no4 4.importing wood chip and coco fibre from overseas is hardly carbon natural 5 its shit and nothing grows in in, Dont belive me? Just try it for yourself

Good video, gives food for thought. I am unsure about ordering the gravel from a supplier but it might be by weight. If it’s by volume (say, cubic metres) then it’s fairly straightforward. If it’s by weight then your estimate of a conversion from volume (which I can work out myself) to weight - say, weight per square metre or cubic metre/yard would give a guide. No doubt the supplier could help but your independent guide before ordering would be helpful.
