How do children get to school when it is 40 below and lower?

Solar does not work in winter.... not enough light and sunny days
@wildwoodoffgridalaska12 күн бұрын
Solar works great for about 8 months of the year for us. With the generator as backup, you can’t tell we’re off grid.
@glennschlorf128512 күн бұрын
@wildwoodoffgridalaska like I said... there are several winter months that exist its hard to get enough hours of useable sunlight to charge battery bank... either way Id have a backup genny...

The issue when buying a generator that is much more powerful than what you need it for, is that running it for less than 30% of its rated capacity for longer periods of time, will cause premature damage to the diesel engine. I'd rather pay more for a 15 kW generator.

A question that has already been asked is why didnt you paint the wall before installing the shelving? Seems like a step that you should have been done first.
@wildwoodoffgridalaska17 күн бұрын
No reason to breakout all of the painting supplies and make a mess twice. It was just as easy to spray the room once everything was complete.

1. ICF foam on the wood boards? How to remove those wood boards after pour? Those planks will be embedded in the cement. 2. No support for ICF foam? It will deform when pouring. 3. No vertical reinforcement? To be honest, I am very pessimistic about this foundation.

Kattywampus and also kittywampus depending on what part of America you're from. In the northeast, southern NY where my family is from we do not use that. I first heard that when I was in the Navy from a guy from UP Michigan.

I think $10 an acre would be top dollar for land in Alaska
@wildwoodoffgridalaskaАй бұрын
I guess it’s not a place for you. Land in Alaska is getting more and more expensive as people stretch out further and further trying to get away from the lower 48 and excessive government overreach. We just purchased 20 acres of raw land at 2k per acre. That would have been unheard of as little as 10yrs ago in our area.

I'm binging your build playlist. 2 things to consider please. 1. The playlist has videos from other creators, i think that might be a mistake. 2. Can you create a playlist of all your videos in order? I'm trying to I catch up but I miss a few things because they aren't in the build playlist. I'm up to the generator exhaust video now! Thanks for sharing your journey.

... curious? ... what happens to the hundreds of pounds of grizzly meat from customer kills? ... is the favourite grizzly roast recipe still "cook for 4 hrs in a moderate oven then eat the oven door"?

Grizzly bears and black bears in our area have very similar diets and taste about the same. Bear meat is a great meat to pressure can for the pantry.

1. Have to say, I've missed seeing yo two every Friday morning, but, I understand. Live the life you both enjoy! 2. Wondering, how large(volume) is your diesel heater tank, and how long does it last? Eric and Ariel, are two if I were u there, I'd also want their advice. And last, How does your solar set up do, how often is that big beautiful Gen have to run? OK this is the last one LOL, Any thoughts on a Mini split system for the really hot Summer days, and as an additional heat source when you take off during the winter|?
