Domo was and always will be the best odd future member. Tyler turned weird, Earl and Frank went ghost. Domo is the diamond in the rough

I still remember the first time I heard the chorus to the middle of next month. So gritty and hits me right at my core. Crazy how much this record still flies under the radar. Great video.

In my personal opinion "Pigs Fly" is the most important because it sets up tylers more genuine lyricism, yeah the production was grim but it really sets him up as this underdog type artist.

It’s strange that people are willing to give credit to Mr. Morale being dynamically different from Kendrick’s discography but we don’t grant Rocky that kind of grace

One of my favorite albums of all time, second only to To Pimp A Butterfly. The lyricism and delivery of Boldy paired with the amazingly crafted instrumentals of Sterling Toles make it a masterpiece to me.

Well-articulated theory but feels a bit like knocking down a straw man - Glover over the course of his musical career is experimenting and maturing. Because the Internet is 'stylistically inconsistent' or 'playful' depending on what you expect of an album. Remember that around the time of Camp, Glover had a stand-up special 'Weirdo'. Yes, He's a serious actor now but back then he was a comedy writer and stand-up. Surely some tongue-in-cheek corniness on Camp is to be expected by a rap artist/comedian who named himself using a Wu name generator, right? Is he ever claiming to be a genius? No. Does he follow whims and try new things? Yes. His fan base enjoy this playfulnesss/mischief - his intuition and stylistic promiscuity are part of his charm. 3.15.20 has some of his most well-executed work - there's heartbreaking moments and fantastic lyricism - he's got better with time, surprise surprise. One more thing: I think some of the early lyrics are indeed corny/comical (how much that is by design I don't know) but regarding his later discography, are cynical critics conflating corniness and sincerity? As a musical artist Glover is brave enough to be sincere and vulnerable and I think THIS is why he has die-hard fans - people are moved and healed by sincerity and vulnerability.

I think Donald Glover shines in the same way that Kanye does; as not solely a rapper but as an artist who uses music, film, TV and comedy as his canvas. When you look at him through that lens, the artistic detours he takes on his music make more sense in context.

Great video! Whether or not the music actually reflects it, Childish Gambino as an artistic persona feels like a product of the early 2010's, and thats a hard time period to be associated with. Chance didnt make it out, Tyler only made it out by focusing explicitly on distinct musical eras. I'm personally excited to hear more of Glover's music, but I see why he would be interested in retiring the moniker.

Redbone was such a cultural moment when it dropped. Gambino is super hit or miss but he had a huge buzz that you couldn’t escape whenever he released something. Yea I’d say “corny genius” is pretty fitting
