This is the best picture I've seen of the eye of that storm. It destroyed our town and so many people couldn't cope with the destruction and hopelessness that was left. We lost a lot of people after that storm 🥺 they couldn't recover 😔

If that Hurricane came in and I was out there and was about to start, I would tell Hurricane to please calm down or stop. Will it take my order? :) Maybe offering a pepsi to the hurricane would help it calm down? Any advice?

To those of you asking where this was filmed... This was filmed on military property called Silver Flag, owned and operated by the 823rd RED HORSE Squadron on Tyndall AFB, FL. That building he took shelter next to is located right next to the shop I trained in during July 31st, 2016, and then again in January 22nd, 2019. My shop (structural engineering) is located at frames 2:20 (gazebo in the back, the smoke pit) and 4:51 (front). And I gotta say, seeing that place before and after the storm, is just purely surreal and devastating. What really took me away was seeing the complete deforestation of the environment. Needless to say that there was a lot of logging going on trying to salvage of what's left of the forests. Very sad to see.

Incredible footage. Lucky you folks didn't get hurt or killed. 160 MPH sustained winds (category 5) is no joke. I was nearby in eastern Calloway, FL and our vehicles wound up buried in rubble / totaled as the hotel portico disintegrated in the inner eyewall just before getting into the clear eye. The eye was something I never experienced in nearly 33 years of chasing hurricanes - And I'll probably never see that again in my life. Never seen a perfectly clear stadium like that (from the ground). This storm was something else. Great work!

The storm is only half over. Even worse, the second half is violent, with winds going from calm to 160 MPH in seconds, and from the opposite direction - Including all the debris and shrapnel (from the first half). This is why you should never venture out into the eye and its false sense of the storm letting up. Us storm chasers know what is going on.

I agree with Stefan's comment that he may have been one of the few people in the world to observe a stadium effect eyewall from the ground. I've never seen a ground-level view posted before, always from hurricane hunter aircraft. A lot of the most intense hurricanes in the U.S. have made landfall at night -- Camille in Mississippi, Andrew in Florida, Hugo in South Carolina. Katrina was weakening and its eyewall was eroding when it made landfall. As I recall, Charley's eye was small and mainly cloud filled at landfall. Whether this is a first, one of the first, or simply very rare, it's majestic and incredible. Nice job.
