Thanks for your video. Is it possible to convert a sprinkler head to a faucet? Will the water flow if the system is off? I want to build a faucet that is separate from my interior house so that I can shut off water to the house, but have water for gardening. I read something about connecting before the first zone, but not sure about how things work. Thanks
@DaveDackАй бұрын
You're welcome! Yes, it is possible to convert a sprinkler head to a faucet, but there are a few important things to consider. If you're thinking about using the sprinkler system’s water, you’ll only get flow when the system is running because the sprinkler system operates through a series of valves that only open during a watering cycle. When the system is off, those valves stay closed, so no water flows to the sprinkler heads. To have a faucet that functions independently of the sprinkler schedule, you would need to tap into the main irrigation line. Your sprinkler system is designed with a main water supply line that feeds all the individual zones (or sections) of your yard. Each zone is controlled by its own valve, which opens and closes to regulate the water flow to that specific area. That's why in my video I installed the faucet to the end of the main sprinkler line and not to one of the zone lines that goes through a valve. The water is always "on" in the main line even when my sprinkler zone valves are closed. For the water to be off to the house but still on to the garden, you'd need to make sure the house shutoff valve comes after the garden shutoff valve. In order of water flow it would need to be: Main Source (city or well) > garden shutoff valve > house shutoff valve. Otherwise if you shut off water to the house, it will also shut off water to everything else that comes later down the line. I'm not sure this is advisable, and I bet most of the time the house shutoff comes first. If you're unsure about how to locate the main line or how to safely tap into it, it might be helpful to consult a professional plumber or irrigation specialist. They'll be able to ensure the job is done correctly and safely. Good luck!

What a shame they slaughter dolphins here 🐬. Must have no regard for their wildlife. Hard to understand the mindset...
@DaveDack2 ай бұрын
Thank you for commenting and raising awareness! Yes, they do have their annual grindadráp during which they primarily harvest/slaughter pilot whales, but many dolphins are often included as well. The event has been deeply embedded in Faroese culture for over 1,000 years and in the last 50 years or so it has drawn heavy criticism. It used to be an essential way of feeding the population, but with modern shipping & transport that no longer seems like enough justification to many. I think it's an unfair caricature to say that the Faroese "must have no regard for their wildlife." On the contrary, they have a very high regard for it in general, as evidenced by their adamant protection of sheep, birds, and sea life, including sharp self-criticism of their own people in years when the grindadráp kills too many whales. As for the mindset, it strikes me as that of a hunting culture. Of course some people oppose hunting as categorically unethical, but that seems a bit imperialistic to me. As long as hunting is as sustainable and humane as possible, it's not necessarily an ethical trespass. Not that I'm defending grindadráp per se. I lack the expertise to take a firm stand one way or the other. I just want to make room for a more nuanced discussion. Articles like this one (tabledebates.org/blog/parsing-grindadrap) do a good job attending to finer details of the debate. Cheers

Twenty five years ago my Dad died of cancer. Come to find out he had no life insurance or any thing else for that matter to cover his funeral. This responsibility fell on the children. Any way, years had passed, I married, and we have one son, and today, I am happily divorced. The ex is completely out of my life. My son has a relationship with his mother, which I encourage, (not that great), but I make no comments, and ask no questions. A few years ago, I placed my home in a trust which identifies that upon my death the house goes to my son. As for my funeral, I have purchased a plot in my home town, and are I the final payments of paying for my funeral. Remembering that my Dad had nothing to burry him with, I said to myself 5 years ago that I didn't want my sone to pay for any portion of my funeral, and honestly, this is a big issue that is off my chest. Another point, I"d like to make is; if one or both of the parents pass on, they need to designate a beneficiary of their bank accounts. Granting the child/children full access upon the parents death. A friend of mine died 2 years ago, and no beneficiary was set up through his bank to a family member (s) so those funds laid dormant in his bank for one year before the funds were released to the family. Folks, please don't wait until the last minute because tomorrow for a parent may never come to pass. Put your ducks in order today! TY.

Lots of misinformation and out of date information here. You are NOT allowed to fly your drone at the Drangarnir sea stack. It is a no drone zone. You can only visit it on an organised tour and they tell you this explicitly on the tour (mainly due to the birds). I was also almost assaulted by a woman for using my drone at the Mulafossar waterfall. It’s not illegal but even if you are following all the rules, the locals HATE them. Traelanipa is outside the 5km airport zone and so this is one of the places you CAN fly your drone legally, even though I did not. If you are flying within normal height restrictions here there shouldn’t be a problem…
@DaveDack5 ай бұрын
Hey there! Thanks for commenting. All this information was correct at the time of posting, and still is as far as I can tell. At Drangarnir, drones are allowed seasonally. During nesting season the guides don't allow them, but I was there in September and my guide allowed and encouraged drone flight, as did other guides who were there at the same time as my group. As of 2022 it was not a "No Drone Zone." It's true that some locals hate the drones. I'm sure part of that is the fact that tourists often break the laws and fly their drones too close to residential areas (I saw that a lot). I like to err on the side of courtesy, and I will land my drone if asked by a local. Trælanípan is a little unclear. It's barely more than 5km away from the airport TERMINAL, but it's UNDER 5km from the tarmac. I couldn't find any clear information on where exactly the 5km should be measured from, but when I asked the locals they told me drones were not allowed there. The map on this website concurs (visitvagar.fo/en/plan-your-stay3/practical-information/drones0), and measures the radius in a way that INCLUDES Trælanípan within the 5km and therefore prohibits drones. Of course, all visitors should check current laws before flying drones and be respectful!
@theunistudent5 ай бұрын
@@DaveDack well it IS considered a no drone zone as of 2024 (having been there only last week) and you are asked very specifically and quite invasively when you go on the Drangarnir boat whether you have one, and are requested specifically not to use it. The tour organisers frown upon them and they are incredibly unpopular. I didn’t even tell them I had one and complied with their request not to use it, as they were clearly very apprehensive about them, so while it may not be illegal to fly there, I would very much advise against it. It is a specific request of the tour operators and land owners. At the Traelanipa on the other hand, where I didn’t fly either, as I don’t think it added anything to the experience compared with taking videos from my phone at the top of the Traelanipa, there were several people flying drones and no anti-drone signs, and the landowners didn’t seem to be too concerned. With respect to the Mulafossar waterfall, I was following all the rules, there was only one other person there a couple of hundred metres away below the second lookout, and I had just landed before a local attempted to snatch my drone out of my hand and break it… she gave me the big finger and her opinion was that all drones should be banned. I just apologised and suggested she raise it with her government. The Faroese government have also just introduced new drone laws this year which are extremely vague, over complicated, wishy washy, up to 50 pages of legislation that is only available in Faroese, and are essentially geared around making you liable if anyone has any minor complaints. If you are not a local Faroese person and have a drone over 250g when including a battery, you can’t officially license it, and unless you are europe based it’s almost impossible to legally insure there, so while the Danish transportation authorities currently advise that you can use it there, it is very much at your own risk/hazard, with minimal protection if something goes wrong… and I can almost certainly guarantee that if there’s a problem, there will be a pile on, as they are frustrated enough with having tourists there that they don’t want as it is! We specifically carried around our correspondence from the Danish authorities telling us that it was permitted, in case we ran into any difficulties with local police. In my humble opinion, it’s not worth taking a drone to the Faroe Islands. The locals are so furiously and adamantly against them, and it is one of the most drone unfriendly tourist destinations, it’s not worth it, compared to Iceland and Greenland where they are very much more relaxed and they actually encourage you to use it on many of the icefjord cruises around Ilulissat and many of the boat captains are also young drone enthusiasts also.

Hi! Thanks for commenting :) The short answer is "yes, mostly." For non-commercial use (like this video), the DoD footage can be used freely, with the caveat that "postings by the DoD do not waive any publicity or privacy rights of any individuals portrayed." For full copyright details you can go here: www.dvidshub.net/about/copyright Some of the video was from a stock website to which I subscribe and have rights to use, and a few clips were directly given to me by one of the pilots. Those clips would be copyright protected (in case you were thinking of reusing some of them yourself).
