Daz studio is a giant money sink hole, its become the new iPhone, every year new model/ phone, all your old shit isnt compatible with the new model. Iclone and CC8 isnt much better. The best thing you can do if you are absolutely serious about making animation or comics is learn Maya, zbrush, Photoshop and 3D max

I agree with what you are saying. I just think that if you are new to 3D animation, Iclone, Character Creator and Daz is the easiest way to start. You can always convert over to Maya, Blender, and the other software once you are more serious about being a 3D animator. Thanks for your comment. Appreciate it

I'm looking for a tool to make 2d comic book characters, with many poses and expressions. Would Cartoon Animator be good for this?
@startanimating695
@startanimating695 15 күн бұрын
Hi, I am using Cartoon Animator for a comic book project. So yes, you can use it to create comic books, but I have to add that it will also depend on the type of comic book you want to create. If you want to create a Garfield style comic book then it is perfect. If you want to create Marvel or DC, then you will struggle

ToonBoom has been around for 20 years now. And there's no marketplace for assets, contents, and ready to go rigs. Doesn't make any sense! I feel like the whole animation industry is just stuck at a certain point in time. Look at the 3D industry, there's something revolutionary every few months!
@startanimating695
@startanimating695 17 күн бұрын
That is one benefit of Cartoon Animator. The marketplace to buy or sell characters, backgrounds and props. You are right. It is probably something all the other 2D animation software companies should look into. Thanks for the comment.

For a one man movie studio like myself, iClone is the best choice. I can learn to do in Blender all of the things iClone does out of the box, but it would take me months if not years to do. Yes, Blender doesn't cost anything, but time is money and it costs a lot of time. My ambition is not to become a great 3d technician artisan, but to create narratives as quickly as possible. With iClone I can iterate faster, much faster. "Fail fast, fail often" is my motto. Other people have different goals and ambitions. Some people want to go and work in large studios as part of an extensive team of artists in big, expensive productions and learning Blender is a great way to get there. I used to work in the film industry, and I was one of those cogs in the machine. I had a lot of fun and learned a lot. But I didn't get to make my own movies. Old school movie making is an extremely expensive proposition, only large transnational corporations and/or national governments can afford to undertake such multi million dollar projects. Even tiny "independent" movies cost tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars that in most cases are never recouped. iClone can get expensive. But cost is relative. Hiring a cast and shooting in a studio or location with a full crew for a few weeks is expensive. And there is never enough time in the day to do everything that needs to be done, you're always cutting corners, always looking at the clock and the dwindling bank account. The cost of iClone and buying all sorts of assets is so much less costly. You get lifetime use of the softwares for less than a thousand dollars. And then add plugins and assets from the marketplace and you can make something pretty sophisticated for two thousand dollars total. And you can get it done much faster than a real movie where you have to do years of pitching and fund raising plus all the costs of production. Yes, years. You read of so many movies that took ten years, twenty years to get made. Producers die of old age before some of these movies ever get funded and given the green light. I say spend the money, buy iClone, get the movie made.

Hi Eon, Is it possible to hire you to walk me through getting a video put together? I mentioned a while ago that I hired someone to create videos for me on CA5. We've started the 3rd one but he's undergone cataract surgery and is having complications. He's now unable to use a computer and is almost completely blind. Hopefully, his eyes will heal but there's no guarantee. Can't make this stuff up! It's difficult to explain it all in a comment, but I have to do it myself because I can't afford what others are charging... my videos end up being at least 20 minutes long. I keep trying to learn CA5 but can't figure out basic things like how to upload my custom characters and create backgrounds. It's definitely not as easy for me as it's supposed to be! Courses aren't helping because they don't address these things. I want to get this 3rd video done because it has more of a story arc than the first two and I want to submit it to Angel Studios to see if it might be chosen for their backing. Your animations would be a good fit for them too. You could submit one and see what happens. It's a really cool idea where Angel Guild members watch torches, decide if they think what they watched should be supported, and give feedback to the creators. These are the people who made Sound of Freedom and some other very popular movies (their link is www.angel.com/home if you'd like to take a look). Back to my question... Can I hire you to do one-on-one help so I can do the custom work I need? My email is [email protected] if you need it. Thanks

TvPaint does have tutorials on their youtube. They have a whole playlist that talks about tons of their tools. Also, I would say Toonboom definitely has the most youtuber coverage for tutorials, and from what I've found the best quality tutorials from youtubers. With both of them, they do have the ability to write scripts for added functionality, so there is opportunity to find some online in forums or on reddit. Some are probably also sold on gumroad too.

You can create an animation series by yourself using Cartoon Animator, but I can't speak for Moho since I haven't used it yet myself. I do know that there are people who created short films using Moho, but not sure about a series. You probably can, but it will definitely take you a lot longer to create than with Cartoon Animator

Both ToonBoom and TV Paint have extensive libraries of training videos that are free. TV Paint works very well with any device I've used it on without consideration of graphics card. A good graphics card helps a lot with anything dealing with...graphics. Newer macs with the M series of chips have integrated graphics which used to be a problem in older chipsets. I have converted and have found the built in graphics in the M1 and M2 to be extremely fast, efficient, powerful on any software optimized for the M series. I have experience with all of these softwares and then some as I work as an independent filmmaker, artist and animator and as an instructor at a university. Yes you CAN animate in any of these apps. ToonBoom works best in a professional pipeline with a team of people who specialize in each facet of animation. TV Paint is more for independent artists who want a more traditional look and feel as it is all bitmap/rasterized art but has great brush engines. Cartoon Animator and Moho debut are more for hobbyists and people dabbling in animation as their feature set is limited. Moho Pro is not the cheapest but IMO is the best on this list. Easy to learn. Flexible. Powerful. Limited to vector art but you can bring art in and build rigs around it giving a more organic feel - I have also been very impressed with some of the vector brushes, dynamics and rigging capabilities inside Moho Pro. Absent from this list: FlipaClip - also limited but quite popular Blender - built for 3D but the 2D tools are incredible - and being able to work between 2D and 3D? Why not! Fun!...bonus, it is FREE! Clip Studio Paint EX - there is a cheaper version but limits you to 24 frames of animation. The EX variety has no limit and gives a very traditional animation (anime) sense. Brush engines are great. Originally designed as a Manga creation tool there is a lot to draw from (pun intended)

In theory you can't. The software is not made to do it, but I know someone, Garry Pye, who managed to do it. He also works for Reallusion (Cartoon Animator) and gives training. So if you can organize a session with him so he can show you how to do it, then maybe that is an option.
