My partner and I live in Chicago, but we love Hinsdale and thought about moving there. We do so much business in Hinsdale that it just made sense. However, we are marginalized people of color and often find ourselves being stared down by older generations and white women who look at and treat us like we do not belong. For the younger generations and community members who know us, they are so kind and loving. However, we cannot shake the disgusting behavior we are faced with every time we visit which is at least once a week. It is such an unfortunate thing because it does seem like a beautiful community, racial prejudice aside.

Brookfield might not be on everyone's radar, but it made the list because of its strong home values, good school district, and easy access to Chicago with the Metra. Plus, its own little downtown gives it a unique charm. Definitely worth considering!

@ralphieandryanКүн бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience! Wheaton has definitely evolved over the years. DuPage County's higher taxes do contribute to keeping the area well-maintained, and it shows in the schools, parks, and infrastructure. It’s great to hear from someone who’s seen how it’s changed!

I left when I was 13 and I've been in Florida for 34 years. recently I've had the bug to move back. I hate the heat and miss seasons, cultures and food. The taxes scare me but I think we pay more for insurance. Am I crazy for wanting to come back? I keep hearing that people are leaving Illinois, but I miss home
@ralphieandryanКүн бұрын
You're definitely not crazy for wanting to come back! Illinois has so much to offer, especially when it comes to seasons, culture, and food-things you can't always get in other places. Taxes can be a concern, but like you said, Florida has high insurance costs, so it's all about finding what works best for your lifestyle. If you’re missing home, it might be worth exploring your options here again. Plenty of people still choose Illinois for the quality of life! Let me know if you need any help or have questions about making the move back.

I once heard a quote that said it’s better to buy the least expensive home in a nice neighborhood than a expensive home in a lower income neighborhood
@ralphieandryanКүн бұрын
That's a great quote, and it definitely holds truth! Buying the least expensive home in a great neighborhood can give you the benefit of long-term appreciation and a better overall environment. Plus, being in a desirable area often brings more stability and access to amenities. It’s always smart to focus on location-it can make all the difference in your investment!

I think it's hands down one of the best places to live in the country. But it's renal prices are eyewatering. We are just a couple. But when we have children, the expensive rent will be well justified!

That's awesome! Naperville is definitely one of the best suburbs with great schools, parks, and a strong sense of community. I'm sure your niece and her family are enjoying everything it has to offer!

Absolutely! While rental prices can be high, buying a home can be a great investment in your future. It allows you to build equity and create a stable environment for your family. It's worth considering as you plan for the future!

The Hoffman Estates/Schaumburg area is one of the best spots in the state, if not the country! Absolutely ANYTHING you could want is there, except the highest-end clothing stores. But for that you can go to the North Shore or downtown. Being close to hospitals, physicians and specialists of every sort becomes REALLY important after 70.

Absolutely! The Hoffman Estates/Schaumburg area has so much to offer, from amenities to healthcare options. It’s great to hear you appreciate the convenience of the area! And yes, for those high-end stores, the North Shore and downtown are just a short drive away!

I'm in Winfield and prices keep going up here. I paid 335 for a townhouse 2 years ago (the year prior they were going for around 279 to 300) and now some are selling for 445, 465, and aren't as nice as mine inside. It's crazy. I think of a house pushing half million as a small mansion, not a 2000 sq ft townhouse; I have trouble accepting it.
@ralphieandryanКүн бұрын
I can understand your frustration! The rising prices in areas like Winfield are definitely surprising, especially considering how quickly they’ve escalated. It’s a testament to the demand in the market, but it can be tough to adjust expectations when it comes to property values. If you're ever considering your next move, feel free to reach out for insights!

Geez, haven't lived in the western suburbs (Westchester) since 1969, when we moved out, and I still miss it!
@ralphieandryanКүн бұрын
Wow, it sounds like you have some great memories from Westchester! The area has certainly changed over the years, but it’s always nice to hear from someone who has such a fond connection to it. If you ever want to reminisce about what’s new or different, feel free to share!
@timward3116Күн бұрын
@@ralphieandryan Greetings! Yeh, after Westchester, my family took me to Dolton for a few years - and i.n 1974 we moved to Phoenix (AZ, not IL) - so Phoenix (which I never liked) became my home for all of my adult life - except when I found myself in Mundelein for a couple of years (2007-2009). While living in Mundelein, I drove down to Westchester a couple of times to see the old house and drive around the streets that I used to ride my bike on. When you're an adult, EVERYTHING seems smaller and more compact - but the trees were much bigger and the streets were much shadier, even in the Fall, when they lose their leaves and the crunchy leaves blow around and end up in mounds along the curb. Westechester still seemed VERY well-maintained but somehow cozier, more mature - less new. Regardless, it brought back so many memories of bike riding, tossing a football in the front yard on a chilly October evening, flying balsa-wood airplanes in the cul-de-sac, playing "chicken" in the Divine Providence parking lot, riding my bike with my brother to the barber shop on Cermak... or in the other direction to Brookfield Zoo. But memories do not constitute a livelihood, and I had to return to Phoenix where my "network" was... and where loved ones were/are. Finally, in old age, by freaky divine design and economic miracle, I ended up getting a condo in an affluent, older area of Phoenix that reminds me very much of Westchester in a lot of ways: grass, big trees, mid-century brick homes on well-maintained huge grassy lots, and friendly people (not snooty, as one might expect from their income level). It ain't the Westchester of my childhood or even now, but it's as close as I'll ever get in my dwindling remaining years. I really love your videos for that reason. I'm not a potential client, but you help to transport me to Chicagoland, a place that will always have a huge chunk of my heart. So THANK YOU!

I would say neither are good to live in for less wealthy people as large cities are expensive. New York may be in a prettier more coastal area yet the problem with New York is that it is even more expensive. So if you are not that well off in Chicago and moved to New York you would be in an even worse position
@ralphieandryanКүн бұрын
That's a fair point! Both cities do have their challenges when it comes to cost of living. While Chicago can be more affordable than NYC, it's important to find the right neighborhood that fits your budget. There are some great suburbs and areas in Chicago that offer more affordability without sacrificing quality of life. If you're considering a move, let me know-I'm here to help!
@laurachristianson1688Ай бұрын
Fine if you want to live in a half million dollar home that looks like a shoebox on steroids in the middle of a cornfield. 0 walk ability, just get in your car and sit in traffic for half an hour to go 2 miles. And the nearest grocery stores are 5+ miles away. I suppose the growth is good for the tax base, but fortunately I live in an older neighborhood where I can walk everyplace if I want. I don’t dare bike though because I would likely be run over.
@ralphieandryanКүн бұрын
I get where you're coming from! The newer developments can feel a bit isolated, and walkability is definitely an important factor for many. It’s great that you have a walkable neighborhood that suits your lifestyle. As more people move to Plainfield, hopefully, we’ll see improvements in infrastructure and amenities that enhance the community experience. Each area has its pros and cons, but it's all about finding the right fit for your needs!
