Very informative video. I appreciated the comparison of different drying methods. Going to include Oranges into Christmas Swags & Wreaths 2024 season . Thank you for sharing knowledge.

How long did it take in the oven? On what temperature?
@BloomintheBlackАй бұрын
I did 200 degrees F for around 4 hours -- it all depends on the thickness of your slices! I have a blog post with detailed instructions if you want to check it out: bloomintheblack.com/dried-oranges/

How do you find the cost with drying your own ( buying the fruit and using gas or electric) compared to buying slices on Etsy? Curious.
@BloomintheBlack2 ай бұрын
You know, I've never really tried pricing it out! I just took a quick look on Etsy and it's definitely cheaper to make your own but that said, it's not a high ticket item. I'd probably weigh the effort you want to put in against the cost vs. cost alone. I'd estimate it was about 30% cheaper to make my own before shipping costs.

Thanks for the tips! I wanted to make something like this, and didn't know any of the steps. One think though, just because coffee is a food item, doesn't mean it's food save to use in this type of application. It may be, just saying just because it has a certain logic to it, doesn't mean it's ok. Especially as many coffees contain mold (Starbucks notorious). I don't know that the mold is generally considered harmful in the coffee state. But scrubbing that into your wood, and any bacteria that could develop, doesn't sit well. I know nothing about coffees interaction with bacteria as it sits out. Another idea is tea. Coffee stains wash out of dishes easier than tea does, so tea might be a better long term stain. But same concerns about not knowing how bacteria would interact with it. I think it would be find with either, just saying it doesn't sound like the idea is known. So the recommendation concerns me.
@BloomintheBlack2 ай бұрын
Thanks for adding your thoughts! I haven't ever run into any issues, but it's something a person may want to consider. Any wood serving piece is prone to harboring bacteria over time unless it's washed very well after every use and even then... The coffee shouldn't affect the piece any differently than another food product that might penetrate, but I'm not a scientist! Definitely make the decision that feels right for you. Another option is to use parchment paper under the food so there's no direct contact with the board or to simply use the board decoratively. Hope this helps!

I've had this installed for three years and haven't run into any issues! But as I said in the disclaimer in the description, it's important to evaluate your own HVAC situation. If you are unsure, contact a professional.

Thank you for creating this video with a different ways of making me dried oranges! I am completely new to this, and I just came across your page when I looked up how to dry out oranges for simmer pots, and I am so thankful that yours came across because I would've done it the drying rack way inside of the oven, not knowing about the parchment paper idea! Thank you so much again! Happy new year

Sure! I mostly use these to decorate with, but you can also use them to garnish cocktails or hot tea. Another idea is to combine them with cloves and cinnamon sticks then simmer in water on the stove to make your house smell nice! Just keep an eye on the pot to be sure it doesn't boil over :)

The part to this that no one seems to understand. Every vent cover has a pressure drop rating! That rating is used to design your entire duct system! Y’all go build née ones sgd you throw off the static pressure possibly making your hvac system work harder causing parts to burn up etc!
@BloomintheBlack Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback! Every situation is different which is why I included a disclaimer in the description to consult an HVAC professional if you are unsure. My vent is simply an air return and our HVAC person said it was fine the last time our system was serviced.

Im literally pending for a condo with a living room in this exact layout, im sitting in a recliner at Big Lots as i window shop for furniture and i googled "furniture arrangement ideas for condo living room with adjacent fireplace" and found this video. Awesome, thank you! Well, I like 5 here. Im not a big fan of having to turn my head to watch TV. I dont want to miunt TV above fireplace. And I love having a chair next to fireplace for those book reading sessions by the fireplace. Futhermore, the kitch isnt opened in this condo, so i dont mind so much closing off the space with the back of couch. Oh, and i may get a recliner couch, which actually becomes great because i wouldnt want the recliner couch flush against the wall and wouldnt want to pull it forward to compensate. Great video! And love your presentation style.
