enjoy and impressed with where you could go with your Transit AWD.I am split between a Transit AWD or a Sprinter AWD ('23). Mind to let me know what year is your Transit, and have you run into any mechanical problem? (like drive shaft?). TIA
@ryanbloom2218
@ryanbloom2218 2 жыл бұрын
Hi @azrockrunner thanks! It's actually a 4x4 conversion done by Quigley. It was originally a 2019 2wd transit. The 4x4 conversion is more capable and robust than an all wheel drive transit. It has all Ford F150 4x4 components added to the front end, low-range 4x4 and a 2" lift. No issues with the driveline at 101k miles.

@@ryanbloom2218 do you think a stock Sprinter 4x4 will do offroad better than a Transit AWD?
@ryanbloom2218
@ryanbloom2218 2 жыл бұрын
@@AZRockRunner yes a stock sprinter4x4 has more capability than a transit AWD. Sprinter has more ground clearance and has lower gearing. Sprinter 4x4 has a 4" lift over the 2wd Sprinter and can fit larger tires without any major mods. Transit AWD has the same ride height and tire size as the Transit 2wd, but it can be lifter aftermarket. Happy hunting

NIce! I was wondering if a 4x4 Ford Transit could do the Schnebly Hill Road... I know you have the Quigley 4x4 on your van BUT do you think the Ford AWD Transit could do Schnebly Hill Road?
@ryanbloom2218
@ryanbloom2218 2 жыл бұрын
Hey @datguy2 What tires do you run and do you have any lift? I think you’d make it stock but might need to pick your lines very carefully so you don’t get hung up. At least half the drive up to the main lookout is relentlessly rocky. What wheelbase do you have?
@ryanbloom2218
@ryanbloom2218 2 жыл бұрын
Hi @datguy2, I think its possible but you'd want a lift and larger tires to handle the trail comfortably. I bottomed out a couple times on rocks even with the Quigley setup and oversized tires.

The hill climb at the 3 minute mark is optional. I oped to go around in the van after the jeep was at max flex hitting on rock sliders with rear locker engaged. What do you drive? Would you hit it in a 4x4 or moto? Cheers

@@ryanbloom2218 Looking at the new AWD versions. We travel in the desert quite a bit and like getting into the back areas and sand washes, etc. Actually rented a 2WD Transit 144 wheelbase and took it part way up the Valley of the Moon road, but stopped short of the summit due to lack of traction and ground clearance. I probably wouldn't try to take our van all the way back the way you did (very impressive), but we want something that can get through moderately rough roads without dragging the bottom or hanging up on the nose or tail. So looking for insights from someone who's using their van on something more demanding than regular forest roads.

@@ryanbloom2218 We're currently driving a Honda Pilot AWD converted to a camper/overland rig. We like the small form factor, and its a pretty nimble vehicle with shorter wheelbase and lower weight. It goes pretty much everywhere we want to go, with occasional exceptions. We're looking at a van now for a little more interior space, while trying to preserve the smaller form factor. And looking for offroad capabilities similar to the Pilot.

Hi John, it's a Quigley 4x4 conversion. It work's great, Quigley essentially stuffs a Ford F-150 front end (differential, 2-speed transfer case, axles, drive shaft, hubs, rack & pinion, etc.) into the 2wd Transit. Mine was originally 2wd. Turns it into a beast!
