very strange, an actress doing a katherine hepburn impersonation as a star trek captain.

By far… Janeway has been the best captain, then Picard. (This from a near-70-year-old retiree who grew up watching great male lead actors in action films. Ol’ Janeway surpasses them all. LOL!

The “out of phase” is my least favorite Star Trek plot device. It’s there but you can’t see it or feel it but it somehow can affect you.

Can you imagine Genevieve doing this part? 1:08 I'm so convinced of Kate Mulgrew going over the edge or hanging on a very thin line and Seven 1:28 at the edge of her seat, seeing a part of janeway and humanity, observing and learning. Its like watching a powerful person I know start flexing what they're capable of - and I was like o...m...g...

For incidental music, they should have used the TOS music used when trying to evade the cube in "The Corbomite Maneuver".

Seven really shows how Janeway is a weird mix of uncompromising collectivist and individualist ideals (likely due to the militaristic aspect of starfleet) that makes her kind of frustrating. She is both willing to sacrifice her entire crew for the sale of an individual, but is also willing to sacrifice herself for the wellbeing of her crew. Despite being a proponent of choice, she won’t hesitate to impose authoritarianism and treat individuals who technically aren’t a part her chain of command as if they were to get what she wants - which is really weird. Not sure what her character is supposed to convey, but she is an interesting character nonetheless

The writers of the episode clearly don't understand how neutron pulsars work. Then again these shows wouldn't work at all if they made scientific sense lol

Janeway: And even with my crew working together, I'd say the odds of us getting through this are... What? One in ten?! Tuvok: One in twenty at best, Captain. Janeway: I'm willing to take that chance. Are you? Me: Eh, I've seen Starfleet crews survive with longer odds than that.

I sometimes have trouble with it, but life is life. you help ...it is worth it to try and save others if you can, it is illogical but it is correct. or you are selfish or weak. even though trying might kill you to.

Janeway is my favourite captain by far. She's a rock for her crew, determined, witty, and so gentle when needed. I doubt another actress could have done this role better than Kate Mulgrew.

As another slight to The WB, perhaps, surprisingly, the most futuristic (to the point of disregarding the past and highways) of the "Treks" is "Enterprise" (OK it was on UPN but still it didn't deserve that coveted network, that show was such dog shit) "Voyager," "Stargate SGI," and "Enterprise" were on par with futuristic. This show had technology and was definitely set in the future completely. "TNG" was sci-fi but it was far more romanticist about the past. One you had the epsiode where Wesley was on a planet with high mast lighting. And Picard's speeches add a very historical escapist feel. "DS9" was almost like "Voyager" but the pre-Dominion episodes, and any that weren't Cardassian episodes, felt more like "Star Wars." But "Voyager" chills with the future aspects in the last season. Maybe it was Bush becoming president, but the finale has the ship flying over a highway-filled Golden Gate Bridge, so even "Voyager" had its moments. So yes "Enterprise" is the most futuristic in almost a bad kind of way. That show is just the epitome of the future but in all the bad ways. Everyone bashes old stuff. "Babylon 5" is iffy. On the surface it appears like a "Voyager"-type show, but the show has "Star Wars"-like moments too. "DS9" was not said to rip off the show for no reason.
