New subscriber. How about a video about the Sports Illustrated Cover Curse. They used to need a lot of lead time for the SI covers. Often times the cover person met with bad luck by the time the issue came out. You could show the covers and tell about the bad luck they met with. Just a suggestion. Maybe too morbid though.

@MikeJones-vy1kl I actually love that idea and have looked into it before. I'm familiar with some of the history and examples but would need to do more research. I think it would make for an interesting video for sure.

The only thing I did not like about bidding on Goldin is the 30 minute extended time frame in every instance after the original closing, and of course everyone waited 29 minutes and 30 seconds to bid again. The lot I was intersted in had a 10PM EST closing that ended up going until nearly 2:30AM the following morning. That's just too long.

another factor that could add to the psa grading magazines excitement if they start identifying things that the comic people like ie jordan's first appearance in sports illustrated thomas was on the cover ie jordan is over rated article while he was in college in sport magazine ripken was on the cover 1984 issue and the article from sport magazine from the late 70s where reggie jackson is first quoted as the straw that stirs the drink and munson can only stir it bad that cover is called greed and it is a green cover i have noticed those issues have gained some steam lately in pop reports and mentions

Hello. Are you using the Goldin app to do your research on current and last sales. I’m looking now and only see 4 mids currently up for auction.

thanks brad great info as usual one question for you do you ever send a magazine to be graded without pressing like a brand new one right off the shelf because some look so glossy and nice without pressing thank you
@sportsmags
@sportsmags 5 күн бұрын
@tomharrison6607 Thanks Tom. The only time I don't press a magazine before submitting is if it is already extremely low grade and I think that the pressing process could potentially damage it. For example, let's say I had another copy of that 1929 Einstein Time issue I showed. If the cover was barely hanging on and it looked like the magazine had been run over by a truck, I probably wouldn't risk trying to bump it from a 2.0 to a 3.0. There wouldn't be much value gained there and the fragility of the magazine increases the risk for damage in the pressing process. Otherwise, I'm pressing, even if it's fresh off the newsstand. Pressing a brand new magazine can be the difference between a 9.6 and 9.8. Or, you never know....could even get lucky and pop one of those rare 9.9s.

Great deep dive-the simplistic thinkers will try to argue with you, but they are wrong. Your competition matters-only Rafa dealt with peak big 3, Roger and Novak in his case. And many missed majors. Did you look at number of Masters 1000 titles when those tournaments were still 3/5? I’m not sure if there is any significance there, but I believe both Roger and Rafa dealt with that grind, but perhaps Novak did not. Those tournaments should be weighted differently IMO.

This stuff kills me. I had racks of Sports Illustrated, Nintendo Power and other magazines from back in the 80's that I kept well until the early 2000's. No one wanted them or cared much. Got big hopes for my newsstand Griffey Jr issue... it looks flawless. Guessing my newsstand 1st Gretzky is my highest $ magazine, it's pretty sweet also. Making a video Wednesday with the son of the ump on the 1st SI, Augie Donatelli. Giving him a subscription copy of Clemente's 1st issue as a Xmas present. He grew up outside of Pittsburg and his dad would take him and his older brother to home games if he was umping. He'd get to sit in the dugout and hang out with the players, Clemente would call him little Augie. How cool is that!

@sportsmags
@sportsmags 25 күн бұрын
@davearchbell9921 The label removal can actually increase value if the removal is extremely clean. But yes, if there is paper loss, the value decreases. Hard to assign just a general estimate on the decrease. It really varies issue to issue.

Look.. no doubt records are meant to be broken and eventually all records will be broken. However, there is only 1 reason why Nadal's name will come before the other 2 forever. while Federer will be known for the beauty (nothing new but excellent improvement over previous generation) and Novak (high precision game over Agassi). Nadal created a completely new style of game which was never seen before. and Like every other thing in history the First is always be remembered. Nobody remember the second person who walked on the moon. Sinner is a brilliant enhancement of Djoko. While Alcaraz is trying to mix up all these 3 GOATS style and creating a completely new methodology of tennis. If Alcaraz succeeds then he would be considered over Sinner even if both players breaks the 24 GS barrier.

For example in basketball, A lot of people say Michael Jordan is the GOAT, he only have 6 NBA championships, if we’re talking about championship, it will Bill Russell’s 11 NBA championships’s will be the goat. not Jordan. If we’re going to talk about numbers, Jordan will not be the goat. It’s the intangibles, the way he play the game and he is love by the people the reason a lot of people wants him to be the goat. Djokovic will be the Bill Russell, and Rafael Nadal will be the Michael Jordan aka the Goat of tennis. Just an opinion of a fan of a lot of sports not just tennis.
