Some of the key things are changes to AD, hot patching.

How would or does one keep the files seperate from domain controller as mentioned about 2 mins in
@ittaster3 күн бұрын
Hi, partitioning the drive of a server allows a logical drive to be created for the OS, and a logical drive for data. It's good practice to have a separate dedicated server configured as a 'file server' (member server) and a dedicated domain controller too.

I'm one of those novice administrators who only recently learned of the crucial role and importance of SIDs. THANK YOU!!! This video is very informative and straightforward to understand. So much better than anything Microsoft itself puts out there. I'm subscribed and will avail myself of your many videos, again, THANKS!!!

Hi, I got my ip details by running "ipconfig -all", then I used the information to set a static ip. I verified the ip was not occupied by pinging it and it returned "time out". Is this the right approach?
@ittaster22 күн бұрын
Using ipconfig and ping is a good approach👍

After installing window server 2022 , I have faced internet , audio & laptop touch pad problem . Please help me How can i solve this problem 😢
@ittasterАй бұрын
Hi, the audio and touchpad issues sound as though they are driver issues. A suggestion, to consider trying Windows 10 drivers if available to download from the manufacturer. Internet issues are most likely down to IP addressing and DNS. Check the IP address assigned to the server, the default gateway (router) and DNS. (DNS forwarders) is set to an Internet DNS server (Google for example). Hope this helps Jon

I cant ping the .local address but I can ping the number address. I cannot join the domain controller. I am using Win10 as client and Server 2008 as the AD DC. Whats up with that?
@ittaster2 ай бұрын
Hi, check the DNS server IP address config on the client, it would need to point to the DC.
@lextacy20082 ай бұрын
@@ittaster Hi, that didn't work, but on Windows 8 as a client it works. I think windows 10 is incompatible with VPN on Server 2008

Hi, have a quick question here, how you know which IP and gateway you have to assign to make it static, thanks for answering
@ittaster2 ай бұрын
Hi, for a home/test lab the gateway IP would typically be an Internet router and for a test server, my suggestion would be to pick an IP that can be excluded from the DHCP scope (or an address that is not used by devices). In a enterprise network environment, the IP address scheme would be chosen based on the size of the network and divided into networks. I have a small series of videos that cover IPv4 addresses that go more in depth. Hope this helps Jon

Good Day, the video was amazingly understandable, but i didnt get one thing, why did you set exactly these ips, im newbie, so sorry if my question is lil stupid
@ittaster2 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks for you comments and great feedback! To answer your question. The 192.168.1.0/24 network is fairly typical of a small home network/lab, to make it easy to follow studying at home. This network range allows up to 254 host devices. However it wouldn't be suitable for larger networks. I have a small series of videos that cover IPv4 addressing that go more in depth.

Great channel. Do you have an episode that would explain how to deploy custom workstation desktops to users who login the domain controller? Thanks
@ittaster2 ай бұрын
Hi, do you mean configuring/locking down regular user desktops or os deployment?
@CK-102 ай бұрын
OS would be already installed. When domain user logs in for the first time the workstation would setup things like drive mapping, favorites, shortcuts and applications. Don’t know if it’s even possible, but figured you’d be the guy to ask.
@ittaster2 ай бұрын
That's all possible, much of it is done with Group Policy. Folder redirects can be used for desktop shortcuts etc. These can be applied on a per user basis at sign in. Login scripts for the drive mappings, they also tend to be done with Group Policy these days.

1:50 - Ding ding ding. I have 3 devices on my network with exactly the same MAC Address. They are SUPPOSED to be Unique, but in practice they can, and are duplicated. Just run nmap -sn on your local network and see how many duplicate MAC addresses you have.
@ittaster2 ай бұрын
Hi, agreed, physical MAC addresses 'should' be unique, but they can be duplicated. In my experience it's rare for this to happen with leading brands. It would be interesting to follow up the results of the nmap host scan, by verifying the device MAC addresses locally to rule out any descrepencies caused by ARP, or network intermediary network devices. Many thanks for sharing!👍

I followed the video but seem to have trouble getting an ip address assigned by the dhcp. I have used a different range for the ip scope (10.0.0.10 - 10..0.0.100) and when i logged into the workstation pc Im getting assigned a private ip address (192.168.64.110)despite dhcp being enabled. Any suggestions?
@ittaster2 ай бұрын
Sounds like there may possibly be another DHCP server, perhaps a router?
@silverfullbuster91772 ай бұрын
@ittaster well I'm running my machines virtually and my host machine is connected to a router but not sure if thats causing the problem.
@ittaster2 ай бұрын
Try running 'ipconfig /all' on the client Windows PC, it will show the DHCP server address.
@silverfullbuster91772 ай бұрын
@@ittaster I've managed to fix the problem. I have misconfigured the ip address for the client machine inside dns and entering the correct ip address fixed the problem. I would like to know if its possible to obtain a random ip address within the scope range from the dhcp rather than an ip address ive manually reserved for the client machine in the dhcp?
@ittaster2 ай бұрын
If you remove a device reservation it will receive an IP address from the DHCP scope instead of the one specified in the reservation.
