This is the most under rated elk calling tutorial in existence. 10/10

Idk it seems to really tick a bull off with the chuckle sometimes and breaks the boundary for them to start moving to you… great info tho and my experience is extremely minimal compared to Jacobson’s. In fact, all I know about elk hunting is from watching Kori and Donnie 🤙🏼

Corey likes to use the “challenge” bugle. This is a great way to get the bulls to come in the last few yards. Check out Corey’s elk university, it’s totally worth it. Thanks for the comment. I’m excited to see DEV4. Out here in Utah the elk are pretty quiet, but things are about to get cranking. Good luck in the woods this fall.

How would you set up when you are both caller and shooter?
@BackcountryAddictions6 жыл бұрын
ryan at steelandsander use a bugle tube and direct the sound off to your side and behind you.

Tayson Whittaker we love your gear and want people to know there are quality options at an affordable price. I should be thanking you for what you’ve done for the industry.

We absolutely love our Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter hammocks! I am working on a ridge line modification to go inside of the bug net so I can hang gear and keep the net off of me. This hammock is big enough to lay diagonal if you don't stretch it out so flat. I prefer the longer flatter stretch while my sons prefer the more "banana shape" hang so they can lay flatter in the diagonal. Once you figure out which way works best for you'll be hard pressed to find a better way to sleep outside.

Seen a lot of talk about that elite as a back up headlamp. My other headlamp doesn't have a red lens option. How well does the red lens work on that elite? Is it bright enough to be used as a headlamp for hiking before light on the mtn in a real world condition or should I look for something brighter?
@BackcountryAddictions7 жыл бұрын
rbljackson it not super bright but it will Get the job done. I mainly use it as a backup. I carry the Black Diamond Storm for hiking and hunting. Animals are not able to see red or green color, so thats why I use the red and green. The green is a lot brighter and perfect for hiking. I use the red in camp to read or if I get up and I don’t want to disturb others. I hope that helps. Thanks Please message me on messenger and your contact information, so I can send you a T-shirt. Address and desired size.

Corey, have you thought of putting this in a DVD and book package? or is all if this in your Extreme Elk Magazine? If it is in your magazine, is it possible to back-order a copy?

Question. When I am practicing I am better at first. As my mouth dries I have a lot harder time getting a clean smooth sound. I continue drinking water but it does not help. What are some tactics to keep the calls from drying out so you continue to get a clean souund.?
@brycenelson57899 жыл бұрын
+jrnavrkal Great question. I haven't had that issue or know anyone who has dealt with a dry mouth. You can try exterior reed type calls or not call as frequent and try to keep your mouth moist. Good luck, I hope this helps.
@fishnhunt34884 жыл бұрын
So in my experience I've learned that once I have a reed in my mouth for an extended amount of time, it looses its sound. I carry 2 or 3 and switch them out every 45 minutes or so letting the used ones dry out. I have a feeling this will help your problem.

Calling too much? I've gone entire seasons where everyone I ran into said they are no bugling at all... so we won't call... wrong! Just get them fired up. If they are not calling it means one thing... they feel pressured so they stay quiet but call anyways... break the ice... they may come in quiet, just be ready for that.
@TheCondor3009 жыл бұрын
Not saying I'm the first to put the caller behind the shooter.... but been doing this for over 30 years and I came up with this before I ever heard anyone else doing it. The first one I just kept running away, knowing the Bull would put his attention on me and not the shooter. Worked good 20 years ago... I can say these Elk are MUCH smarter these days... when I started I may only see one or two hunters all season!

Great Video Bryce. I don't know much about quality rain gear. Do you have any preferences on brand\model of rain gear?

I like Russell, but they don't make any more. Kuiu is expensive, but awesome gear. I have hear that First Lite has great gear, nut I haven't personally used it. Go luck.

Bryce Nelson - Great Video man, I am digging these gear videos. I have the Therma-Rest Trail Pro. It is nice, but heavy. I will look in to the Neo Air. A friend and I are in the planning stage of our first DIY Backcountry OTC Elk Hunt, so hearing from someone who has a lot of Backcountry experience out West on what works and deosn't work is awesome. Keep them coming as long as you feel up to it!

Looking forward to them! KZbin has been great for planning this trip. We have to learn multiple things. a) we have never elk hunted, only Whitetail Deer in TN b) we have never been backcountry hunting c) never been in the mountains at high elevations. We do Backpack some, so we are familiar with carrying our necessities on our backs. Looking forward to the journey of learning and the adventure, as much or more than filling a tag!
