The thing that breaks my heart most about his death was that he never got to fulfill his dreams and ambitions about going into movies full time not just as an actor but as a director! The man was simply overflowing with talents. He had so much more to give before he left us

Very true. It is sad to not have seen what he would've done in the film world. It would've been interesting, but knowing how much he studied artists in all mediums, it would've been great to see.

I am a huge nostalgia buff so I get it. Loved this movie but I'm skeptical about the future of the MCU if they keep going on with the multiverse.

They are so stuck. It is like Endgame was their endgame and they didn't know how to make it continue. If you ask me, it wouldve been easy for them to push the envelope and stay in the universe, but they just waffled it.

I don't know how you got to "fun"?? Did you watch the same movie as me? The story is tragic, "adult" Peter is existential - the end scene should have brought that home to anyone, especially with the mother's line. I haven't read the Dahl's story, but I believe there are actual words from the Roald Dahl story in this screenplay. Your focus could have been on the bullying, the consequences of the repeat bullying. Or Wes Anderson's use of the props, like a stage, to propel the story. Frankly, I couldn't get past your reaction as you started laughing and said the story was fun.

That is fair enough but there are a few different lenses to look at this. This short was exciting to me for all of the reasons you mentioned and I think there is a sense of fun and playfulness in the way that it is presented. There are many films, TV shows and music (to say the least) that present as one thing but have layers that contradict that presentation. You are right, I could've gotten into all of the layers but this was more of my initial reaction which honestly excited me.

The poison was the man's racism. His fears and paranoia were a small part of it... but not the poison. His imagination created a terrifying snake in a spot he could no more see than the people he petitioned for aid. His friend and the doctor worked their asses off, diligently, to save his life (which was never in any danger... but no one knew that) and at great 'imagined' risk to their own, and in the end he doesn't just berate the doctor for 'daring' to claim its his imagination.... he does so via several excruciatingly cruel racial slurs. The man's friend tells the doctor that he's terribly sorry at the end to which the doctor simply replies "You can't be." Because he wasn't responsible, he didn't say the racial slurs, he wasn't the inflictor of the poison... the racist was the snake, and it bit the innocent doctor who was only doing his job.

Apparently, Netflix was contractually oblidged to ask Wes Anderson to direct these shorts, due to a deal he made with Roald Dahl's widow in the late 2000s. Netflix had to honor the deal after buying the Dahl estate from Dahl's children.

@@cornnflaek6234 :: Gotta side with Jody on this one since you go beyond a reaction (Liked it, didn't like it, etc.,) into an explanation of the story events as to why, so putting "SPOILER" in this title would've been more appropriate. Btw, no hate here, just hope you can understand why someone would be upset.

I had a lot of the same worries about the long-term viability of the series especially things like chopper and Jinbe, not to mention some of the builds of the characters in one piece like white beard or Moria are just insane.

I think they could do it. I think the vfx was so much better than I excepted that I hope when we get there that it’ll work out, but vfx has been so strained so I worry. I want to see chopper and white beard. I mean, who doesn’t want to see Brooke. They can do it, it’ll just cost them. I hope they aren’t scared to put money into it bc it’ll get more expensive and fans will come.

3:33 Actually Oda once answered in an SBS where he said where all the Straw Hat Pirates came from, would it take place in the real world. And Luffy would be South American (Brazilian). So they really tried to be faithful to Odas vision with the Live Action Cast

The giveaway is a really cool idea, but I'm not sure you realize that a crunchyroll subscription and the ENTIRE one piece manga are of vastly uneven value. A crunchyroll sub is only 100-something for a year, but with over 100 volumes, buying someone the entire set for a giveaway... well lets just say you'd be lucky if all you paid was 1000$. You might wanna reconsider that as an option lol, unless u already knew this and ur just a legend. But it seemed like smt u just thought up on the spot, so don't feel badly about walking it back a bit😅

Late but man i have no idea who this remake was for. It left so much out that made the original so compelling but shoe horned in some of the more notable moments to the detriment if what was actually working for this film. Sinqua’s character and his arc was actually decent but it doesn’t come to the light until the last like 30 mins. Im not even like mad at the film im just so confused at what this was trying to do.

I’ve been following One Piece since early 2000’s back when I was a kid as it is one of those anime in the TV, I remember I would be always late to class since I will be finishing the episodes first. Crazy as to now that we have this as a live action. I have been positive about this ever since the news came out, and props to their passion and dedication to push this through despite all the prejudice and bad impression we’ve had from previous live actions

I think there's not a lot of discourse around the diversity of the cast of One Piece is for a few reasons: The first is that the Oda has stated explicitly that Luffy's meant to be Brazilian, Zoro's meant to be Japanese, Usopp's meant to be "African" 🙄, and the other crew members are from various places in Europe and North America, so it just makes sense for show to follow this kind of direct authorial intention. The second is just that One Piece in general has a very international feel. The crew's goal is to literally travel the world, and we constantly meet diverse peoples, races, and cultures whose lives are impacted by political events on a global and local scale. Basically, I think if someone ends up loving One Piece, it's *because* of the diversity of culture and influence it constantly draws from and not in spite of it. Or maybe they just thought Makenyu looked badass enough as Zoro that they didn't care about the rest of the casting 😂
@requiredwatching
@requiredwatching Жыл бұрын
I think you’re right. Maybe I am generalizing but the the anime/manga world seems to be much more accepting than some other fandoms…or maybe it’s just OP. Either way, it’s refreshing.
@WatanukiProductions
@WatanukiProductions Жыл бұрын
I mean, you didn't hear anything about the casting because Oda wrote what he imagined the nationalities of all the Strawhats to be ages ago and the showrunners used that as a guide for casting and Oda also had to approve the casting choices. So they didn't make any subversive choices, they cast actors with accurate or close enough ethnicities who all embody their roles really well. So no reason for controversy, cause like you said, Usopp was always black. XD
@requiredwatching
@requiredwatching Жыл бұрын
I saw this after the video and I love that there wasn’t anything about the casting and the casting was relatively faithful. I also think there’s something about the fandom that is pretty accepting….from what I’ve seen anyway.
