You forgot to first place your hand on top and shake upside down to get rid of some tiny dust particles you don’t need and also get them to the top away from the bottom when creating your little slope but not bad for a foreigner

I think that's backwards... the bitterness is merely the most powerful note of the yerba's complex flavor In time you start noticing other nuances such as sweet and smoked notes So I say don't flee from bitterness, allow it to be the first step of a deeper appreciation

Great explanation! I got my bomba & gourd yesterday & tried properly brewed mata for the first time this morning. It was sweeter than I thought it would be! Hints of bitterness, especially if i don't refill the water soon enough & the mata has more time to steep. I did pour over the whole thing for this first time, but I know better now & will pour in the same spot from now on. Thanks!!

my kraus organic mate comes with a manual. my first mate was perfect. (my 2nd was not lol). a few things i've noticed: kraus recommends 80 degrees water temperature but also recommends an additional step: after the shaking they instruct you to fill the cup with 1/4 of _lukewarm_ water, wait for 2 minutes and then insert the bombilla. then add 3/4 of 80 degrees (**** fahrenheit) water and you're ready to go. my first mate was perfect, not bitter at all. my second one, which brought me here was super bitter. i suspect that the lukewarm water was too hot and that the 3/4 of water was 85+ degrees and that i did a bit of stirring. i hope this helps. kraus is a argentinian brand of mate so i guess they know their tea.

Love your tutorial! A variety of ways erva mate can be preapared amazes me haha. Is it possible to make "make invertido" to use all of the mate? I mean, when you drink it a little while, it can become washed, but most of the times there is dry mate on the other side. I'm looking for your answer, sir :) Cheers!
@mikabjorklund36782 жыл бұрын
after the drink goes tasteless and there is still fresh mate on the rim you can scoop out some spent mate from the bottom (to make room) and drop fresh green mate down from the top throw the tasteless mate out, put the straw back and drop some dry mate into the water hole or just drop some of the dry mate on top after filling with water. not too much, or it will clog up the straw

Well, this video was excellent. I let the mate step for 3 min before drinking and boy was it bitter!! Yerba Mate works differently than tea. Just pour hot water and step to your preferred taste is the idea.

Take orange peals or lemon peals on top with sugar. Also instead of hot water you can use hot milk and a little bit of sugar.
@bardiahaha3 жыл бұрын
Hey quick question Are they any age restrictions on drinking mate? And also, if it’s too bitter, can we just add sugar? And if we do add sugar, do we mix it in or pour water and absorb it? I rlly wan a try it and I wanna know how to work with it man lolol
@yerbasa13 жыл бұрын
yerba mate contains a significant amount of caffeine so please consult a medical professional about health related questions. As for sugar, you can add sugar to your hot water flask. Alternatively, you can sprinkle some over the yerba in your cup.

Thanks for the video! One question: I just watched a few videos about making Mate in Argentina: very similar to you way making it. The only difference is - they put a little bit of cold water before to fill the rest with hot water. Does it make sense to you? What do you think?
@yerbasa13 жыл бұрын
Hi. A little bit of cold water before the hot water is fine but if you're hot water temperature is right I don't see the need for it.
@anonymusmaximus8054 жыл бұрын
How many times can you brew from 1 cup which holds 300ml total? It's 50% tea so 150g mate, right? Also, do you leave it like that in the cup? How does the top dry mate also become infused with water, does it automatically after 3-4 brews of the same cup or is the top mate dry and wasted?
@englishwithjovi94214 жыл бұрын
Hi TB. Since yerba mate is much less compact than liquid it fills more volume. In other words, if you fill a 300ml volume cup with yerba mate you'll probably only get 100g in there (max). Therefore, I'd estimate that filling your 300ml cup halfway with yerba mate would weigh in at about 50g. Now to answer your question, the normal way of drinking mate is not to put it aside and leave it for later. One usually drinks mate continuously until the herb has lost its flavour (until its gone flat). After that you dispose of the yerba, rinse the cup and gourd and place it somewhere to dry: ready for using next time.

Excellent! This is how we prepare mate in Uruguay (and probably in Brazil too). In Argentina they usually don't make any slope neither they put any cold water at the begging.
@orafa.el_4 жыл бұрын
Here in Brazil, we call the Yerba Mate like Chimarrão. It's very common in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. It is a little bit different from the Argentina's Yerba Mate. The argentine has a stronger flavor.
