In 1987-88, I had a friend in school that was able to get issues of the oversized (compared to our comic book standard size here in the states) Action Force comic magazine. It seemed very exotic to us young American kids at the time, what appeared to be a UK based team (which at the time was filled with what appeared to be Joes). What I remember most about that magazine was the oil panted covers. They were of the same high quality of the card and box art for the figures and vehicles here in the states. I don’t believe I even knew about the whole Action Force line overseas until I was much older. Nice video.

@andrewgrant6516 as did quite a lot of people, Imagine how the fans of Action man felt, when they replaced him with Action force. And when the change happened, I still continued playing with both using them as one big Action force against cobra and the shadows just like in later issues of the comic. The writers were the same as before, it's when marvel took over that the style changed, but I will save that for another video. Thankyou for you comment and watching

Great video! I remember when AF became Joe, but I never realised they came in AF packaging. My first Joe AF figures were the Cobra Trooper, Airtight and Bazooka, all of which came on the Hasbro packaging. I'm guessing the old AF figures would have been discounted for clearance at that time and so making the perfect gifts for my family to get me. Thanks for the great history lesson 👍 😀
@Randomgijoecollector11 күн бұрын
@Retrotoyguysi Thankyou, that would be around 1987???? Yes that's right , there was ALOT of stock leftover from palitoy, so to save pennies and help with product recognition they used them, then about a year later once everyone had got used to the change they went to the Action force you mentioned, good choice of figures also! 👍🏻 I am happy you enjoyed it, thankyou for your comment and for watching

Zap and Short Fuse. Short Fuse was the first G.I joe figure I ever got. Small correction: G.I. Joe was an afterschool cartoon. It was never aired on Saturday mornings when I was a kid. (Although it was made for syndication, so some local station might have aired on the weekend). I remember when the first 5-part series came out, it aired Monday through Friday in a single week. It seemed like a long time after that before the ongoing series started; but I was little, so it might have only been a few months. Really interesting to see how they matched appearances with nationalities in the Action Man line. I'll have to find those comics and give them a read.
@Randomgijoecollector11 күн бұрын
That's right 🌟🌟 As for the cartoon, I will go with what you say on that👍🏻when it was aired the u.k under the name of Action Force it was on a Saturday morning. I thought it was part of that whole Saturday morning cartoon thing, like He man and transformers! now I know! Thanks you for watching and your comment
@taryntessrog758811 күн бұрын
@@Randomgijoecollector Ah, you might be surprised to learn that He-Man and Transformers weren't Saturday morning cartoons either. Neither was Thunder Cats or Voltron. I don't think any of the cartoons that were closely related to toy lines were. Saturday morning cartoons were developed by the big three TV networks (ABC, NBC & CBS) to compete with each other. There was this other ecosystem of syndicated cartoons that were bought by local stations across the country and usually played on weekday mornings and afternoons. And a subset of those were cartoons that toy companies had either pitched to animation studios, or just hired them outright to make. Although, I do remember Transformers being aired on Sunday mornings on a local station in my area when it first came out. Maybe because the first season didn't have enough episodes for a weekday rotation.

@taryntessrog7588 your joking!!! Well you definitely know your stuff, i know where to go next time i need the info lol! The real cause for the change was in the begining hasbro and palitoy had an agreement they would not sell their products in the others market....however when Alfred Pallet (founder and owner of Palitoy) died hasbro bought the company which gave them the rights to sell Gi Joe in the u.k. and europe.....to maintain brand recognition hasbro renamed it action force and changed the bios of a lot of characters (in Gi Joe they were all American but the A F versions were truly international) and as time would go by hasbro would change the name to "action force ,international heroes"....then rename it "Gi Joe the action force" and then simply "Gi Joe" dropping all pretence to the action force name /brand.

The Red Shadows are my favourite baddies of all time (well, maybe just after The Empire from Star Wars). My wife got me the brilliant 7" Red Jackal from Super 7 for Christmas last year. It's a fantastic tribute figure. Pity he's likely the only Red Shadow they'll release. And he's bigger than Classified and Valaverse figures so won't fit in with those displays. I absolutely dig him though. I'm still waiting on the 4" and 6" Eagle/Monster Force figures that are coming out this year. I may have to look into making some of these in LEGO form. I've built the HISS tank and the HAL, and have designed the SNAKE armor so making recolors of those as Red Shadow versions should be simple. All that would be missing is a way to see some of their stickers so I could make them.
