I find the prophets "bailing out" the Federation felt.... bizarre? Un-Star Trek maybe? For what ever reason the episodes with the resistance always felt a little off to me. Maybe slightly uncomfortable? Which makes sense for being constantly surrounded by the enemy. I couldn't tell where they were trying to take the story. I originally thought the mine field was going to remain up at buy the Federation enough time to make some wonder tech to save the day; but going back through the arc from start to end I really enjoy how it explored the characters and allowed the good guy realistically lose. Sisko holding himself hostage against Gods or God like beings was definitely the hardest to come around on as the entire ending felt almost like the writers were running out of time. Looking at it now from the perspective of the good guy losing and trying last ditch efforts to simply survive makes it a far better scene in my opinion, and certainly makes the arc feel more complete.

You also spent a lot of your time defending yourself. It's your website, you can do what you choose. If you choose to have your runtime longer than the material's, that's your prerogative. Viewers want your thoughts, you can't give those if you are rushed or forced to truncate. There are plenty of commentators and critics of the same shows and movies they can listen to if they aren't happy with you. Having your opinion differ from theirs and having your runtime match your message, instead of their wants will not kill them. You do you and don't worry about them. Those who enjoy listening to you will come back, those who don't will (or should) find somebody else. You have enough viewers that you don't need the haters. Defending yourself is fine, you're telling your side and your reasons. It just wish it was because that is what you want to do, not because it is what you feel need to do. I know a couple who used to watch your videos, but stopped because they found it too nitpicky. They didn't bitch to you, they just quietly left and found other commentators and critics. I stayed because I rather like the nitpicking. You point out things I don't see with a bonus of making me laugh at seemingly random times. Both make me come back for more.

-"Craft. As in crafty, not as in the cheesemakers." I love that specified because the captioning said Kraft, not Craft. And that might have confused anybody relying on captioning 🤣 (though most know that it is very flawed). -I don't pick up on things very well, so it found the first part of this episode tedious. But, once the dance scene came, the first part became worth watching (and important) to me. The fact that he would repay her kindness to him by being her (avatar's) dance partner was soo sweet! As a hopeless romantic, I have to say it was the sweetest gift he could have given her. And I'm so glad he did. Of course, this episode couldn't have a guaranteed happily-ever-after and that saddened me some. But, it is something that she could replay and romanticize for the coming 1,000 of waiting and evolving. As Dan Hartman sang, "I can dream about you, if I can't hold you, tonight!" He was her hero because he gave her something to dream about to help stave on loneliness and boredom. Perfect!

I've read a few comments about how this reminded them of their tortured childhoods. Thanks, Star Trek writers for making us the butts of your jokes! It's certainly not going to help those in the mainstream crowd accept us better. I was treated badly in school, at work, then in various social situations, in between. I have Asperger's Syndrome and Social Anxiety Disorder. And, although they probably deserved it, I rarely treated people the way Edward did. I used to be a people person then people ruined that for me. Although, I have come into myself as I became an older adult and stopped caring how other people thought (to the point of being myself, not to the point of being an asshole). And stopped putting up with their abuse. But, I still tried not to turn into him. Because then I would be more of an asshole than they would ever be. I have diagnoses that get in the way of my good behavior, but it doesn't mean I'm allowed to have bad behavior. I have literally told people: "I have problems, too, but at least I take my medication - when others should but don't!" Basically, if people with disabilities can't get away with it, then people without shouldn't, either. Accountability applies to everybody. Edward got treated badly and became evil and careless because of it. But, it doesn't mean he was right. He should have rose above them, not stooped to their level.

-By the end of this episode, I definitely had to agree with the captain on her assessment of him. It was almost pure torture watching it. What a fucking arrogant moron! How the hell did he make it that far in Starfleet? I didn't think this at the time, but now I remember like it was a trainwreck. I'm not saying I hate the episode. Nope, it really explained so much. But, Edward ... O. M. G.! How he manage to pass the psych eval and stay under the radar for that long will always be a mystery to me. -I can understand why you would see shades of Barclay (since I agree). But, Barclay had quiet arrogance that was, sometimes, subdued by low self confident. And he never thought anybody else was lesser than he was, even if he knew his IQ was quite high (except when he because almost God-like, of course, but that was the exception) And he did have social anxiety disorder (which the actor aced in all of his appearances), but then his confidence would get a boost long enough for him to speak out when he knew he had something they needed/wanted to hear. He just had to get people to want to listen. Edward on the other hand. There was nothing quiet about his arrogance. And he thought he was the smartest person in the galaxy and that everybody (even those that might have respected him) were complete morons, especially if they thought that of him. Which he proved during his reprimand. He was just an arrogant asshole who didn't like rules and thought he was better than the position he was put in. He hated most other people and would rather just be left alone to do what he enjoyed: Crazy science! Barclay was so very opposite of that. He wanted to be liked by others, wanted to have friends, be apart of interesting conversations, and he respected those who deserved respect. Sometimes, that respect was born out of fear, but that is part of Social Anxiety Disorder. Even at his worst, people respected Barclay (whether they wanted to or not), at his best few respected Edward (and he didn't even deserve that much). They are two very sides of the same coin. But, one having a truly good, kind, white heart and the other having a truly mean, evil, rude, black heart. Okay, maybe he is like Barclay - if Barclay didn't have a conscience and chose to be evil. Maybe. -This captain irritated me, too, I just couldn't put my finger on it (besides being snooty). But, you explained it well. So, I'm not going to call you sexist ... this time! Next time, Gadget, next time! -The episode is worth watching once, but I feel bad that you had to watch it a few times for the review. -They don't explain his being in his underwear. But after watching the scene, again, I got the feeling that he was woken up by noise (or whatever) and decided to go out and investigate it (naturally), only, he didn't bother to put a robe on first (I know how he feels). I think they avoided explaining that to add humor unnecessary humor to it. -If Edward was the cause of it, he should have been put on probation, been confined to his quarters (when off duty, for example), or been put in the brig. Instead they allowed him to roam free upon refusal to clean up his mess? No, I don't think so. It irritated me when other captains let ppl get away with less.

It did gel out a few details about Spock (like that not so hidden smile), but I really didn't see that it was about him as much as it was about Number One. When I watched the first two episodes of SNWs, I had done very little research on IMDb. I scanned it once, and saw that Rebecca Romijn was in it, but had forgotten when I went to actually watch the show. Her dyed hair disguised her and I didn't know who her character was, at the time. So, it easily slipped my mind. Anyway, I knew that Number One was originally played by Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, so I did a bit of comparisons, but that was it. I would have concentrated on Number One, but she seemed one dimensional, through the first half of Season 1. So, I didn't pay much attention to her. Then, I looked up an episode of IMDb for another reason and was reminded that Romijn played her. After that I paid more attention to the character because she actress is not the type of person to play a one dimensional, boring character. It helped that around those episodes Number One started opening up more and showing more sides of herself. And this episode was a bonus to that. This is why I feel this episode was more for her than it was for Spock. They spend a lot of time on him, especially in the second season. There is not a shortage of Stock-centric episodes. So, it was nice to see her character get some attention, this time. I've gotten use her (both the actress and her character) and am less blasé and/or bored by her. Now, that I see what her part in the show is about. And she did an excellent job with Major-General. That did not look easy to learn. I'm sure it's easy, once you have it. It's learning it that has to be the challenge. And, I heard somewhere that it's sort of an homage that she sung that song, because LaForge started to when he was stuck in a turbolift, one time, too.

The head of TSR comics telling their readers that their books are meant for buying and destroying is as tone deaf then as it is today. Again TSR is ahead of its time telling its readers if you don't like our books don't buy them, which is a current mantra of the books that a lot of people don't like to read from independent publishers and the big two.

agree that scale is a big problem. it's a noticably underpopulated, claustrophobic film. never rises far above being kind of depressing. saw it in it's opening week & the audience was very quiet leaving the theater.

My biggest gripe with this part of the arc is that, while Chuck comments on it when it happens, I will be direct. The Avengers face NO consequences from this event. There's a scene or two later, but like with World War Hulk, the people who are most responsible for the bad things in Hulk's life basically get a pass because they were 'tricked' or 'not responsible' for things they did that are reprehensible regardless of the outcome. Again, you could say they were forced into this, but at the same time, if Captain America or Carol Danvers had this happen to them, captured and taken to a black site, and they KNEW who was responsible, they'd be all over that. Heck, Tony would just broadcast it, even naming names to get the government's goat up. And that's not speculation, both of those HAVE happened at points to study their altered bodies too. But when it happens to Bruce? No follow up from them, no massive expenditure of resources, and in this case THEY put him in this position, for no reason other than, because someone told them to, and that's just sad.

@@annaprzysiezna5913 Okay, I was unaware of that, but looking it up, it's there. Not a long scene, but given all the shit going on, it doesn't have to be, and it's just nice to see Steve taking responsibility. Now if only Tony and Carol would...(and yes, they have a LOT on their plates for some of their dumber decisions but they're not always the best at individual expressions of remorse).

Gary Gygax doesn't need to be a hero for Lorraine Williams to still be a villain. She flew the plane of TSR into the side of a mountain when she could have easily avoided it. Admitting she was wrong here and there doesn't absolve her of intentionally crashing the plane.
@Mister-ThirteenАй бұрын
I think at it the core Lorraine Williams operated at the time as purely a person focused on expanding the business. In that way she is not unlike pretty much every corporate minded IP holder in America. But just like today, it has never been a good idea to take a niche product and try to force it to appeal to the widest possible demographic; that only leads to the mass-market sludge we see in modern media.
