"if it's not hard, it's not worth it" I think flyfishers do the world a great disservice by making the fishing public believe that fly fishing is something mysterious and difficult. I've been sight fishing for over 45 years and I can tell you sightfishing with a fly rod is NOT anymore difficult than using conventional tackle, especially where redfish are concerned. I'll go so far as to say that sightfishing for trout and reds in Texas is EASIER than conventional tackle as far as the catching. You have so many more options to present and entice these fish than is available with conventional tackle. I have caught many fish with a flyrod that would have been nearly hopeless to present to with a spoon, plug, jerk bait, or any type of intrusive conventional tackle. If you practice your craft, you can lay a fly in front of fish that would have bolted out from a plastic or spoon plopped anywhere near your target. With some practice a fly is no more alarming than a butterfly landing in the bite zone. Even when you're getting refused you can have great success just irritate the fish enough to bite a fly. Anyway, 👍, nice video.

I agree that you can get more shots if you are a good with the long rod… however it is much easier to cast with conventional and you can always throw 10’ past and drag it to them. I think the close quarters/pressure of the cast/ difficulty in the cast itself when using a fly rod makes it much more challenging and fun than conventional

I am friends with a cousin of yours, Rick Underbrink. When I found your video I sent him a text asking if y'all were related and he responded y'all were distant cousins. Great videos keep it up. I have a Solo Skiff that I need to get a trailer for to be more mobile as I primarily walk in and wade fish the flats near me and some days I can't cover the distances needed to find the fish effectively. I know what you are about to say that I could use a truck bed to transport but I put a camper on my truck and now my tiny home cannot transport the solo skiff and it is grounded at my house, lol. @@FlyFishingTexas

Thanks for the vid. Great Job. Where you store the push pole when you go to cast?
@FlyFishingTexas8 ай бұрын
I’ll start out by saying It is super tough to fly fish and pole yourself. I store the push pole between my legs, in my left hand, or in my armpit when I see a fish. It just depends on where the fish and my push pole is, and where the wind and current are pushing me. It is very difficult, but when everything connects it is art!
