I’m a discerning car buyer who prefers to go from A2B and even get back again. As such I prefer cars with more than 4 main crank bearings, cam chains made of real metal, and engine oil that lubricates instead of fuel washing the bearing surfaces. If you’re a Disco fan and think I’m mad, just ensure you have a good warranty, buyer beware.🫣

Hi Ross good vid I can see your dilemma. If you buy the new model you’ll use it lots more and it could even be your everyday motor as you suggest. The real issue is whether you will regret parting with the 964. Unless it has some sentimental value, you will only really regret it if 964s increase significantly in value, as otherwise you could always buy another one as they’re not hugely rare. Thanks for the advice re prostate check; my dad had prostate cancer so it is something I will do as I’m 53 now. Have a good Christmas! Andy

The 964 is obviously a very different car. If you want out from the car hobby, a 992 is a good bet, assuming a warranty. If you use a 911 primary as a weekend fun car, the 964 is more of an occasion. It may hinge on your acceptance and embrace of old cars… I have a 964, but we have a Macan for daily driving. I would find it painful to have no classic car in the garage, and the 964 is perhaps the easiest classic sports car to live with.

My take on this is that you are likely to use the 964 less and less and with a family it is often difficult to find the time to use it - whereas the 992 can be a daily so you get to drive a 911 most days - for me that is a win

It really all comes down to how you use it. I have a 991.2 C4S for a daily and it is a good compromise on usability and enjoyment. If you are lucky enough to have an alternative 4 seat family car in the household, I would sell the Tesla and buy a 991.

The 'Ford lion, Peugeot Citreon V6 2.7, 3.0' has run from 2004 through until 2021, Land Rover ran with it, brilliant if it doesn't go wrong (I have a Discovery4) , But Ford were shameless in not being willing to address the Crankshaft lottery, but the main/big end bearing issue comes down to more frequent oil changes, the New 6 cyl ingenium engines, (and not the 4 cyl that has become synonymous with failure) being in-line 6 will have 7 main bearings in the engine for the crank to sit on, as opposed to four narrow ones in the V6, ( which was designed 'short' to be transversley mounted in the Peugot/Citreon applications) SHOULD prove far more reliable, but change your oil and filter every 6-8000 miles, much cheaper than engine failures due to wear. My biggest disappointment, now the shape of the Discovery5 has grown on me is that Land Rover have opted to drop the HI/Low transfer box, another reason the Discovery 3/4 are commanding high 'used prices'. Land Rover have unwittingly scored another 'own goal' on the Discovery5 in it's latest offering, giving it more diesel power, but removing an essential off road feature, the hi/low box, granted the chelsea tractor brigade won't even know what this is! The V6 lives on in the New Ford Ranger and VW Amarok, albeit in in Turbo diesel form as opposed to twin turbo diesel, watch this space as regards reliability!

Yes, the Discovery 5 sales was eaten ALIVE by the DEFENDER 110. Unfortunately it is indeed under rated. I sold my 2018 D5 HSE and bought a 2021 DEFENDER 110 SE instead. The Defender just has more aftermarket accessories and parts. Discovery 5 did not really catch up with the off road community. If you own LR3/D3 or LR4/D4 and think about D5, well let me save you some time. Skipped it and just buy a DEFENDER 110, if you feel like driving a Range Rover and not plan on buying one, you should try the D5 as the interior is super plush.
