Thanks for the comment and feedback! In a face to face class I can be responsive to individuals or even physically adjust peoples position. Online, this all needs to be done verbally! When you're doing the session, trying to just apply the verbal cues as you're continuously working through and applying to your movement is key. This becomes much easier over time. Having said all that, I may just not be the instructor for you, we're all different in our approach

I'm 73 with 24/7 sciatic nerve pain in my legs. My Dr suggested Pilates. After watching your video I know there are a few of these stretches I know are out of the question. Which part of your routine will be the most beneficial and least painful for me starting out. I'm not very limber and bending over like you did is impossible, will bending halfway over be of any use? Thank you.
@pilatesguyАй бұрын
Hey there. Sorry to hear that! Most exercises can be adapted by limiting range of motion, reps, regularity of rest, and level. So yes, certainly using a smaller range of motion could be beneficial. However, with a disc issue you really don't want to push it. could pilates help me achieve my real height? I´m 182cm in the morning and 179cm at night . It has always bother me that I shrink so much during the day
@pilatesguy2 ай бұрын
Don't stress, this is completely normal. Average is around 1.5cm loss in height through mainly disc compressions throughout the day. 3cm is more than average, but if you lift weights or so physical work, it can be more. In theory being more posture aware and having stronger core muscles would reduce the compression and potentially make a small difference. Hope that helps! Not sure this has been studied though

Russ, Any thoughts on the benefits of Physical Therapy for degenerative disc disease and associated arthritis in addition to Pilates? Thanks.
@pilatesguy3 ай бұрын
Do you mean like massage etc provided by a physiotherapist? I think it's always a good idea to be guided by a good professional. The kind that works with you, motivates and advises you, not just someone who puts their hands on you then off you go. I have a chiropractic every 12 weeks and a sports massage too which I find helps a bit. What you do yourself is the 90% of the result you get if that makes sense?

Very useful thank you, I’m thinking very seriously about this. A question, just out of curiosity, it’s not so important, but from my observations it seems to be mainly women who do Pilates? Is this the case? If so, why is that?
@pilatesguy4 ай бұрын
The sooner you get started rhe better! You are right. It is predominantly women who practice. This is partly why I found it so difficult to begin myself. I think much has to do with society as a whole. This kind of holistic style of exercise is always attended more by ladies than men. Much of that is down to us guys. And women are more open to group exercise class settings too, across the board. But there are also some factors around the evolution of Pilates after Joseph Pilates began instructing dancers in the New York Ballet. And his protégé was dancer. This all happened before it became so popularised and widespread. Many people who do the various styles of Pilates have any idea of it's origins or that it was initially created by a man.

I definitely agree that you can accentuate pain by overly focusing on it. But you can also aggravate an issue by pushing through too???
@pilatesguy4 ай бұрын
Yes definitely make it much worse. Sometimes waiting for it to kick in for example. You can aggravate by pushing through if you're pushing to an extreme. But keeping moving is important, rather than just doing nothing, and will make you feel better 🙌
