Love this. So thorough and backed up with a solid knowledge of pro players and their stances. I think the realisation I came to is; “what feels natural” is less repeatable than an intentional stance & as a result, my consistency suffers. Great video 💪

If you’re a new darts player definitely avoid putting unprotected live electrical cables adjacent to your darts board 😮

I know my issue now I flick my wrist every throw it just feel natural coming from basketball. Pretty much the opposite to darts where I need to lock it. I tried now but it feels so weird and unnatural just gotta get through it . Lovely video !

I was your friend in the pub, couldn't let go of it. It was heartbreaking. People who had no idea what it was or that it was even a thing were laughing, but for those of us who have been through it, it really wasn't/isn't funny at all. I've just about come through it now (taken best part of 20 years on and off) by completing reworking my throw/pre-throw triggers. I'll never be as good as I was, but I can at least play a few legs against my son.

Great instruction! Do you know why many pro players do stand more to the right of the oche? Instead of in the middle of the oche?

Thanks mate, the locking the knee method really helped. I was always uncomfortable with my stance, and this helped out a lot. Now building consistency!

to have the most dexterous release one needs to hold the dart at the front of a widely knurled barrel

Professor you're wrong... there's another way of throwing (i.e. both feet on the oche) : place both feet on the oche, pointing leftwards diagonally (45°) ; then turn your legs lightly further more toward the board ; now turn the upper part of your body completely facing the dartboard ; then lean slightly forward ; your torso is now in a "locked position", stable enough for you to concentrate on your throwing gesture, which you can manoeuvre with far greater precision than via an ordinary throwing stance

Should I be spinning the dart off my fingers or try to keep it in a fixed position through the air?

What a dangerous set up. I hope nobody lets a dart slip and penetrate the mains cable next to the board as that would be instant death when they remove it. I think your better removing it and fitting somewhere else.

I dont know if its dartitis but since like 5 months ago i started rolling my darts to into the single nine's, a month later right before competition started i changed stances and throws and during my match i still could hit some 20's but i also got darts in the 3 segment and in the 19's thrown at 20. Now that is over but i still got some darts rolling in the 9 or 14's. Is this dartitis?

That plum line is about as straight as George Michael. Just use a tape measure from the wall to the bullseye, that measurement will be the at the oche, simple and alot more accurate than a wobbly plumline.

I just took out the wire and staples. Hitting the line is kind of a pain to determine but its definitely better than the staples

I've been throwing off my middle finger rather than my index finger from day one, I never took darts to seriously but I've always been decent, I recently realized I've been gripping fundamentally wrong, it's a nightmare trying to change

My natural way to hold the dart had my palm more facing the board. I noticed most pros have their palm facing more upward. I improved quite a bit when I made this change and my follow through became more consistent . With my palm facing the board I had to use arm and should more to propel the dart...palm up ,my arm is quiet and the wrist pronation follow through is the majority of what i need to propel the dart

If that dart went right it was always going right , you can easily 180 with a set of thick brass just takes far more use of flights to keep darts either side aiming for a deflection off the flight rather then the board itself
