How do u send audio that isn’t a guitar through a guitar pedal
@stephenbeyer5 күн бұрын
They are devices called reampers. They help transform the instrument level signal to line level (I believe). Radial Effects makes great units!
@Foolian13323 күн бұрын
@@stephenbeyer other way around. most/many other instruments are line level, so we're looking here for something to bring that down to instrument level. once we've got the level out of the way, there's a another possible hiccup with the impedance of the signal (fuzz pedal dorks will know of this, worth a google) but overall i think the crux of this question is about the type of plug/jack that is carrying the audio. @bryanmartinez7849 , if your "other" audio is carried thru a 1/4" cable then you only need worry about the level and impedance, which radial effects and many others can handle. if the audio is organic (non-electric) you'll need a pickup or microphone and maybe a preamplifier. in short, you're asking a big question with a lot of different answers. so it really depends what the audio is and how it's being picked up and carried electrically.

@@Foolian1332 thanks for the clarification, you’re totally right. It brings the signal from line to instrument level (which is what pedals expect to receive).

Stumbled upon this and loved the video - and the sound of this effect. Wanted to clarify something for anyone who might see this video and get confused about compression though. Lossy Compression is only one side of the coin of data compression, the other being lossless. Your description of lossy compression is a good birds eye-view of the field: how can we reduce the amount of data (bits/bytes etc) used to reflect this information (picture, audio, video, etc). Like the effect pedal, lossy compression can be adjusted to skew towards smaller file size or more fidelity - the more you turn that knob to the smaller file size, the more dense the information has to become. The key thing to understand about lossy compression is that once it is compressed, data is truly lost. You can't perform lossy compression on data, then take that data and reverse engineer what the original data was. Lossless compression on the other hand has the goal of reducing the amount of data used to represent information, while maintaining the ability to take that compressed data and uncompress it. This represents an interesting computational challenge, but is of course less interesting when it comes to audio compressors. From the way you talked about it it seems like you are probably aware of this, but it might not have been clear to someone who wasn't familiar with the concept of data compression.
@stephenbeyer4 ай бұрын
This is a great additional clarification, thank you! Could you imagine the process of manually getting your audio files to burn lossy artifacts and data loss onto it? hahah might be a fun experiment, but it'd take a lot more effort than the plugin or pedal! 😆

@@stephenbeyer as devices were developed like the echoplex, which was basically a tape deck, but used for guitar, the "preamp/boost" effect of the unit alone was used this way, so yes, but even earlier people were hand building things like treble boosters and such..... the addition of any gain stage in your signal path gives you this capability, often even the input of the recording board itself back then. If you see ep booster on your helix, or seen xotic effects pedal "ep booster", it is based on the effect of the echoplex tape delay input section and compression.
