Sir, I have just finished installation of the AC4R in my power supply. While I was in the Navy, I did not spend 50 years in the communications field (I was a Machinists Mate) your excellent video, along with the good instructions, enabled me to easily build and install the kit. Thank you very much for making the kit and the videos available. I do have 2 minor comments: the installation of the PCB may more easily be done by attaching the ell-brackets to the PCB and then mounting it onto the transformer bolts, and the bolts used to attach the PCB to the brackets could stand to be 1/16" - 1/8" longer than supplied. Again, thank you very much for the kit, the instructions and the videos. I would send a picture, but it is all buttoned up and reinstalled in the MS4 cabinet. Now to finish the R-4A and T-4X recap and on to the fun. 73 Chas AD0UY

I like your shop a whole lot. I don't have a lot of stuff, but I do have some odd Heath gear you might not have. Do you have the Heath digital o'scope, or the Heathkit CB, the GW-22? (I built one new when I was a kid in 1964.) I have a few other old Heath things, too. My biz partner used to be a Heath engineer. He has a lot of great stories about it. The perfect job. Design kits all day, then party on the Lake MI beach. I envy him.

Well, I don't feel bad about the mess in my shack now. I'm somewhere between your shop and Mr. Carlson's Lab. LOL (And I've got some Heathkit. I built a lot of it when I was younger. It was ALWAYS more costly than to buy a commercial product. But you learned so much by building it yourself.)

if you are feeling generous to a 70 yr old Ham. I would love one of those HeathKit Receivers I had put one together when I was 15 back in the late 60s and it worked, I had a long wire on our roof that went the whole length of the roof (we had a flat roof). Our house was an end home of a 3-house unit. I put the long wire diagonal from our side of the house to the far corner of the other end house. I also put up a second wired dipole that had equal sides but it was not cut for any band and ran coax to my basement. I also built a tuner out of parts from an old tube TV. The long wire & dipole when tuned brought in stations all day and night. Also, there I've been a ham for 43 years. de N6KV

I sure miss Heathkit. Built several kits in my teens. Wish they would come back, I would love to build test equipment to help with my vintage audio restorations.

I love the Mohicans. I had one in the 1980 and was a great rig .I have one now but needs work and I can't find a technician to take on the task.

I have a shop larger than that. I have probably 30 Eico and Heathkit test equipment I need to restore. I have about 80 old radios I need to restore. I couldn’t imagine having that much stuff. I’m 43 years old and I don’t think I could get to all that stuff in my lifetime. Especially with my other project builds.

Heathkit was one of the best company's . When I was 11 I put together are first color tv. Heathkit was a mile from my house. Someone from California bought it just for 2 patents. Year later it closed. Was a sad day for kids.

Looks FB so far Mike. I for one would like the bare board(s) or board/kit of parts. I can buy the parts, just supply a BOM. If you can design it stout for say up to a 30 AMP (max) supply that would make it very universal. I assume the failure mode on the sense line is addressed or will be. Separate crowbar board sounds good. That's an important feature for saving the radio from its iffy power supply overvoltage events. One thing I have on my list to try is generating the 180 VDC for the vacuum florescence indicators in the HP1144, using a 24 volt to 125 volt transformer (creating 125 VAC) and the appropriate linear power supply design so as to create clean DC for the display and get that noisy supply issue corrected. The current demand for the display is low so a small PCB transformer I would think fits the bill. Taking those big caps out of there gets more room for something like this. Paul Dulaff W2NMI

Mike; this being your second KZbin video, both are fantastic and should sell a lot of your AC-4 power supply upgrade kits, at least for me! My only thought was, since there are no grommets were the new wires pass through the chassis, to perhaps, add a bit of "wire spaghetti" or heat shrink tubing to the area that passes through these holes.
