If i may, is there a way to learn environment design and incorporate into pixel art?
@parker8ball12 күн бұрын
I've always been drawn to environmental design more than character design. I enjoy studying architecture and interior design for inspiration and seeing what I can learn from each new style I come across. It's always a good idea to keep a database of images that inspire you from across the internet. These can be anything and ideally not just pixel art. For example, I have an extensive Pinterest board collection and keep a library of design based images on my PC for reference. A great, but maybe odd source of inspiration on how to compose a scene to give the impact of a theme or the sense of being somewhere is to look at how theme parks capture the essence of each theme. They use a theme and break it down into parts that when put together give an illusion of being somewhere completely new. They are not trying to recreate a realistic version of that theme. But, rather trying to capture the source of what makes that theme. In a way this is the same concept as my small scale pixel art. I don't have many pixels to express an idea so I have to find a way to express the themes and ideas I want in a very limited way. Maybe, you'll prefer a higher resolution canvas and your style will be different. Explore, play and have fun. If you're having fun with what you're doing the learning never feels like a chore. Good luck!

new to pixel art, is there a simple way to add that background grid (not the default checkered one, the red+blue lines) or do you just have to manual draw and copy paste?
@parker8ballАй бұрын
Hi hi! I have a copy of the grid you can paste into a new layer above/below your artwork layers. As far as I know Aseprite doesn't support isometric grids without plugins at least. It's a pretty simple process setting up a canvas though with a premade grid. Anyway, you can grab the one I used here cleverbones.co.uk/parker8ball/isoTemplate.png Happy pixel artin' :D

@parker8ball4 ай бұрын
Hi hi ^^ Thank you so much for the kind comment! Actually, my brother is color blind and managed to achieve great results with digital art by using values. It's always good to have someone with typical vision to check over. But, if you learn what color values go well with others you can take an almost mathematical approach

Hey how do i center the grid if it's smaller than the screen?
@parker8ball6 ай бұрын
You can adjust the grid size using the code. If you want to align the grid to something other than the 0,0 of the frame you can insert that position before the placement code. For example; 100+(xGrid(Active)*32) edit: spelling

I'm wanting to start drawing pixel art and it's insane how you turned a few shapes into something with depth and shading with just a few changes!
@parker8ball6 ай бұрын
The best advice I can give you is just go for it and learn whilst failing. I learned a process of blocking out basic shapes and then shading them by practice, failure and watching others. That's always been my main motivation for sharing these speedpaints. To hopefully inspire people to try the techniques they see for themselves. Have fun with it and thank you for the kind comment :D

I like it so much! What is the canvas size and resolution that you use to draw pixel art? E.g.: 3000px x 3000px in 300dpi (this is the canvas size and resolution I use to make digital painting)
@parker8ball6 ай бұрын
Thanks! The original artwork was on a canvas of just 80x112px but then for the composition at the end I upscaled the image to 960x960px. The really beautiful thing about pixel art is it can be scaled to any integer
@iannnavas6 ай бұрын
@@parker8ball wow! I didn't know it can be scaled! That's awesome! What about the resolution? How many dpi do you use?
@parker8ball6 ай бұрын
as a general rule of thumb I would stick to 72dpi for images online and 300+dpi for print material. If you're working with an online print shop they will often have the specifications they require

That's a very good question! Normally, I leave the pallet file in the directory with the art. But, on this project I seem to have forgot that step 😢 I'm pretty sure it's Duel by Arilyn (lospec.com/palette-list/duel) but I am casting a purple shade over everything that alters the colours slightly
