Forewarning, I am NOT trying to be negative but this is not the way to do it. I'm a contractor and love watching these videos but this is a dangerous way to fix. It is strictly cosmetic and if someone leans against it (like a child) they will fall right through it. You should remove the post and insert a dowel, glue and reconnect the two ends. I love the rest of your videos.

Fun to watch both styles. This pro-level technique vs patch kits (which are fine for occasional patch work). The comment about how this is "slum lord" patching has no idea what working with drywall is all about and is just trolling. This is good work.

Here in the UK, we have a two part wood filler, high performance ,ronseal, in white, ideal for that repair.

So, California style doesn't actually FIX anything, it just covers it up. Typical. Texas style DOES actually fix it. That's the difference between Cali and Texas, in a nutshell. One is all about appearances, one is about making it work. Guess why everyone is moving to Texas, huh?

Yeah, it actually will push those panels apart unless you use as little foam as possible. I mean I just did this a couple days ago and had a bigger repair on my hands lol.

Very nice! So i have a similar situation in our bathroom. My hole is in the middle of the panel and the wood or whatever is still attached, just dented in. At the deepest its maybe 1/2". I was thinking of taking the lightweight spackling and filling it, then after i use the spatula to smooth it i was.going to take a nail or something amd drag ot through the compound to simulate the woodgrain. Since it's in the middle of the door I have to kind of connect the lines. Have you ever tried this method? It's not very deep and I don't want to rip off all the paneling and put spray foam in and do the whole patch I was figuring it was shallow enough that I could get away with the lightweight compound

I prefer the Texas patch (never heard it called that) but leave at least 1/4 inch gap around the patch so the mud get in and bonds the patch to the rest of the wall board.

Lived in Calif all my life and alway used the second method. Just moved to Texas and the roads here really suck!

California is more of a half ass job and the Texas style is the proper way and nowadays you can even just get a patch kit with an aluminum sheet.

The same thing happened to me but I just made an access door instead so that in case anything ever happens then you would just pop open the door to see if there's a problem.

Use the low expansion foam.

Try turning the door round so the hole is on the other side , if not a cupboard put some parcel tape over the hole and paint it. If it’s the bathroom door drill a hole in the hole for added ventilation . Trade Tip : Fill the hollow core door up to hole with macaroni and glue and spray paint to desired finish.👍

What was the point in extending the cut all the way to the stud in the Texas patch?

If you're looking to touch-up or re-paint an entire hollowcore door in its original color, what is the standard color that matches (or most closely) matches the door? Or would I have to scrape a sample of the paint off and have it custom matched?

Could have been 1/8 as long and without music.

1st way is terrible that is not going to last very long before it goes again all you gotta do is lean on it and it will fail
