You should definitely try it. It was sort of icy because not so many people ski there, so the conditions are better than on the crowded slopes.

It's very obvious that you both lack skill to ski down this slope. Skiing above your skill level doesn't learn you anything. As a result, you traverse across the whole slope which is an absolute no-go when there is other traffic around, you even fail to look and cut other traffic off in the beginning of the video. You should not be on this piste as you will cause grave accidents eventually. It's good to practice, but please practice on red or blue runs, they are plenty steep for your skill level. The major flaw you both need to address is to keep your upper body perfectly straight down the fall line. You now turn your whole body into the turn. Therefore you lose edge angle, therefore you slide instead of grip, and therefore you are unable to initiate new turns easily.

I believe they said that this is their first time down that slope, also they said this in response to another comment like this: “@stories.from.the.lanes2022 4 months ago (edited) I can’t understand what’s wrong with practicing. No one is born advanced in everything. I’m pretty sure that you were also not confident enough when you were skiing on a steep slope like this for the first time, especially if you were trying to bare in mind that there’s hard ice below you. Additionally, people tend to enjoy skiing in different ways, you might like being fast on the slopes to show off, but in my opinion skiing is a winter activity, giving you the opportunity to spend time with friends and family. So, please, don’t judge people in such an uninformed and inappropriate manner.” I understand why you don’t want people traversing across the run (especially when it’s that steep), and I can agree but let them have fun. They may not ski that slope over and over, but let them enjoy it at least once. Also you can still learn on a steep slope, but it may not be as efficient it still helps. Please let people enjoy themselves.
@davesmulders3931
@davesmulders3931 Жыл бұрын
@@justskiing4599 As I said: you don't learn anything going down a slope that is above your skill level, because it will make you traverse. The problem is traversing promotes upper body rotation in the turn (clearly visible in this example), and the traverse itself after that is too easy and it works on blue, red and black alike. So, you don't learn anything but upper body rotation which is counterproductive. Additionally, traversing people are a cause of accidents on the slope as they have no predictable rhythm. You never know when they will abort the traverse and turn the other way, and they sometimes tend to extend their traverse suddenly to the edge of the slope. That is no problem on blue (and some red) runs as you can easily evade or stop. However, on a steep icy run it gets more tricky, and you should not be surprised if someone behind wipes out trying to stop, and takes you with them down the icy pitch. Anyway, the main point is that it is sufficient to practice on blue and red runs with this skill level. First learn to fully carve red slopes top to bottom. Then when you go on a black pitch, you can easily and safely ski a small to medium corridor down. This diminishes the risk of misunderstandings. I don't see the fun in doing a steep black run when it impairs your skiing ability. By the way, 14a is not the steepest pitch in Ischgl. If you continue the catwalk on top of this piste straight, you'll go onto piste 13. It is 90% for two sustained sections.

@@stories.from.the.lanes2022 I don't get it then.....70% of WHAT??? A slope can either be calculated in DEGREES OR PERCENTAGE....that's just the way it is.... 100% slope is 45 degrees...1 unit of horizontal measure by the same measure of vertical measure...(1:1). That is just plain old civil engineering/construction. This "gradient percentage" you are referencing must be a European ski resort marketing term. Read on.... "The Harakiri is a slope in the ski resort of Mayrhofen Ski Zillertal 3000. It is named after the Japanese vulgar term for seppuku, ritual suicide by samurai. With incline of up to 78%, vertical drop of 375 metres and a length of about 1500 metres, it is the steepest groomed slope in Austria. Wikipedia" 375 height over 1500 distance = 1 to 4.....1/4= 0.25.....or 25% slope/grade I don't know what your "gradient" or their "incline" refers to!!! Tell me! Draw it on a piece of paper! one measure up, four measures across....connect the ends you get a triangle....Does that look "steep" to you???? On skis, on an icy slope it is...but it's not 78% slope and CERTAINLY not 78 degrees. A human being cannot STAND on a 78 degree incline...without ropes and pitons. Sorry, just an old civil construction guy here who has built countless grade separating structures.

@@stories.from.the.lanes2022 partially agree with you about explanation of skiing, but: I think hamberq want to state (I am fully with him)-why low level skiers always try to find the steepest slope and dont know how to chew it down? From logical point of view-its dangerous for them and other skiers that would like to enjoy that type of slope but cant... many people without sufficient skill are skiing through whole slope transversal, with unpredictable moves and accidents as well.. That do nothing with practicing budy, thats just nonsense... In fact it is really irresponsible to the others, not talking about safety... I agree. How to get the skills needed? Take a few lessons. Yes it cost money but you are much safer on the slopes and your fellow skier's are safer too. I will bet that a first time skier can get down that slope with only a few lessons under the belt. If you master a proper plough ("flug" in German) and can control your speed (don't start the next trun untill you are in control) that particular slop is easy. Maybe a little tricky in the afternoon or on a warm day.
