Please!!! I need to view part 2! This saran wrap method will allow me to sew fitting garments again! I have a left shoulder joint replacement that has caused a lowering of my bust and misshapen shoulder bone structure. I have a spinal S-curve and a hematoma bulge on my left hip. I was thrown from an open vehicle and landed on my left side. This fitting method is amazing!

It really is a case of trial and error. Usually I have a good idea of exactly where to place both based on my experiences. Powernet can produce a great look, but it has to be used judiciously. Glad it helped!

Hello Pamela! I don't have experience with pockets for a mastectomy, however, I would be inclined to use powernet over powermesh and "eyeball" a pocket size and shape. Handstitching the pockets in to current swimsuits might be the best option at this point. Have you tried searching on FB for something like postmastectomy sewing? I have read about options in the past, but there is some great info in specific FB groups as well as other KZbin channels that focus on this very issue.

How do you keep the fabric in place? I just got a baby-beginner machine, the Brother PE535. It's actually great, but when I actually make buttonholes on a real garment, I'm going to want the buttonhole to be placed near the edge of the fabric, and I won't be able to do that keeping it in the hoop, there won't be enough space. I did make test buttonholes from designs I uploaded on my computer, and they came out beautifully-- but they were randomly in the middle of the piece of test fabric, because I was just seeing how they looked. It looks as if you just laid yours down on another piece of cloth? Or paper? How did you make this work, please? TIA.

Third time was a charm for me with the Sophie too. I had the same gaping at bridge and cup. I ended up reducing cup size and bridge but used same underwire and band. Size. I found the smaller cup created more stretch and thereby more support.

So how do I draft the shelf bra?
@cybersewingschool874
@cybersewingschool874 Жыл бұрын
The shelf bra is drafted off the same pattern front and back. Measure from the mid shoulder point down over AND under the fullest part of the bust. Match the length at the side seams of the shelf bra with the back piece. This should give you a rough estimate. Even if a pattern includes a shelf bra piece, you may still have to customize the length to your specs.

can i put a more traditional lining over the power mesh/powernet? i want to make and sell clothes. would that be ok to do to hide the power mesh or is that too much
@cybersewingschool874
@cybersewingschool874 Жыл бұрын
I always say, "You can do whatever you want :) !" Seriously though, your best judgement will dictate what to do. If I'm doing swim bottoms and using both powernet (a partial front lining) and powernet (for a full front lining), I'd leave it at that. Could I put swim lining over top? Yes, I could. It depends on the fabric, print, color (not all swim fabric is the same quality), and how neat I want the inside. But it can be overkill too. The more you sew, the easier it is to make these calls. There are no hard and fast rules on this.

@@cradicalcompassion perhaps I misunderstood your comment, but women I know want to compress the tummy but not the boobs. No "pushing" the Powernet on the boobies...it will smoosh them! Strategic placement for uplift and cleavage, but other that, no.
@cradicalcompassion
@cradicalcompassion Жыл бұрын
@@cybersewingschool874 yeah I think so lol. A chest binder is a garment designed specifically to bind (or as you said, smoosh) chest tissue to appear flatter. I'm nonbinary / transmasculine & wear binders for chest dysphoria, so uplift & cleavage is the exact opposite of why I'm learning about this fabric. I know women who wear them too though, for various reasons. I thought you were saying it *can't*/shouldn't be used for that, for some reason other than preference.

Thank you so much for this vid ... very helpful. Wow you are very young looking, not at all 50+ more like 30+ ! The dress turned out wonderful. I want to add a shelf bra to some tops I'm making. My goal is to make some shelf bras for my elderly mother's under singlet, for when she wears tops over them. She is in her 80's & finds standard bras very tiring to put on. She'd prefer to not wear a bra but because of her generation & feeling immodest she continues to be frustrated.

Why would you use a straight stitch on a knit? Wouldn’t the stitches pop when you wore it?
@cybersewingschool874
@cybersewingschool874 Жыл бұрын
A straight stitch is amendable in specific areas on a knit. I prefer to use a straight stitch and set a custom length and width for a narrow zigzag. Using the default lightning bolt (stretch) stitch or triple stitch often is too short and stretches the seam producing waves on a seamline. If a machine has foot pressure, that can be used to compensate to some extent. The only places I would use a lightning bolt stitch is back of the armholes, the back crotch, and/or the final stitching once a garment has been basted to fit. However, I strongly prefer to use a serger for virtually all my knit garments. In the absence of a serger when creating children's clothes or bodycon garments and leggings, then the final stitching should be a custom narrow zigzag or the lightning bolt if one prefers. All in all, the lightning bolt has never been my fave stitch for knits because beginners rely on it as the best stitch, and it just depends. Also, it is a beyotch to seam rip if a mistake is made! If one does not have a serger, experience will teach the sewist judicious use of the lightning bolt stitch :) .

@cybersewingschool874

Definitely. Power Net is the "super sucker inner" material. However, be careful when ordering. The terms Power Net and Power Mesh can get muddled. Order samples from a few places can be quite helpful to make sure one is getting exactly what they want.
