Thank you so much for this vid ... very helpful. Wow you are very young looking, not at all 50+ more like 30+ ! The dress turned out wonderful. I want to add a shelf bra to some tops I'm making. My goal is to make some shelf bras for my elderly mother's under singlet, for when she wears tops over them. She is in her 80's & finds standard bras very tiring to put on. She'd prefer to not wear a bra but because of her generation & feeling immodest she continues to be frustrated.

Thank you! Shelf bras can be very freeing. And the beauty of including them is one can add as much or as little extra support as needed with cups and fabric types.

What if my outer layer curls in? Seems like it should be a fit issue. It happens with ready to made and the toile I made.

My problem is that I find with all these layers its quite hot...and I am usually using a shelf bra in summer under lightweight tops, so witha shelf bra its hotter than a standardbra

So how do I draft the shelf bra?

The shelf bra is drafted off the same pattern front and back. Measure from the mid shoulder point down over AND under the fullest part of the bust. Match the length at the side seams of the shelf bra with the back piece. This should give you a rough estimate. Even if a pattern includes a shelf bra piece, you may still have to customize the length to your specs.

Lol! I have natural 50 something boobs and it is not easy to get them looking perky without wires (which are supremely uncomfortable).
