Planned a solo craft weekend for myself and staying at the Adrift Hotel in Long Beach and plan to visit Oshen…. Could be a good retreat lodging place. 😉

Just watched the replay. Jen, I’ve been enjoying your podcasts, and you and Britt make a great team! The Meta conversation was so interesting. Although I was on FB and Twitter years ago, I no longer use those platforms and am mostly on IG. I go on Ravelry once or twice a week, and go on discord once a week. I find discord very confusing to use, otherwise I might go there more often. I might open a Blue Sky account if enough folks migrate there, but I also don’t want to be checking multiple sites every day. A friend who is a writer moved from Patreon to Substack, and said only 2 people followed her over, and they were friends IRL. Tough decisions for small businesses.

Maybe the tagline for exit is “But not today” 😂 Makes for a good Segway into future episodes! Thanks for including the Meta conversation. It’ll be really interesting to see how things progress. For a future episode, I would love to hear more about the difficulties in establishing the Making app and the difficulties in making paid for content/classes accessible after the app shut down. Are there concerns from instructors on the classes being shared beyond those that paid & other problems that popped up-as I’m sure there’s been plenty more than the public has seen!
@making_co14 сағат бұрын
Great tagline idea! hahaha Appreciate this topic too. Building the Making app was an incredible journey but there were challenges in transitioning during and after sunsetting the app. Unfortunately, without the app, we don’t have a secure way to provide access to past content. Ashley and I know that’s disappointing but we deeply appreciate the makers, instructors, and community who were part of it. I'm grateful to continue sharing through the podcast and thankful that you're here!

My Meta accounts, which I spent over a decade building, are dormant with just a graphic up that shows people where to find me on my websites, sign up for my newsletter, and follow my Substack. I'm also on Bluesky. Tbh, with Google changing its maps to "Gulf of America" to bow to the new fascist regime, my KZbin is on thin ice too, which pains me. I also use Gmail, Google Suite, and Chrome as part of my every day business operations, so figuring out an alternative to those reaaaallly sucks. I made a video explaining to folks why I was dumping Meta and most people have gotten it right away.

Loved hearing about VKL since I missed it. Really enjoyed the Meta conversation. I deleted my content deactivated my accounts after they announced their changes. Definitely had moments of second-guessing the decision because IG was the main way I got my work in front of new people. Will see how it goes. It's all new and uncharted territory for me.

It's always nice hearing Brit and you Jen discussing these topics and it was fun learning about Bea and the Wool Dreamers. I'd also like to try crocheting with the Manchelopis, even just to try it out, maybe it works well with Tunisian crochet. The bit about authenticity really stuck with me. I've also been falling away from social media and recently started just blogging on my Patreon. Not on the paid tier, just the public/free one. There's no pressure there to show up as anything other than the person I am and if feels so good to just express things without the fear of saying the wrong thing or needing to appear extra polished. Those people who joined actually want to read all the stuff. And there's no pressure to take pretty photos or videos either. We can just be there, interacting with each other. Britt's Discord is also a chill place.

I wonder if that rigid mentality in the knitting community is a leftover product of wartime knitting propaganda, where knitting a certain way was considered patriotic or unpatriotic. I was watching this video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnS0h32cesmCbM0) the other day that explained it more in depth. This sprung into my mind as you were discussing the topic. Whether it stems from a political agenda or not, it has got to go. Thanks for the informative podcast.

A very timely subject. I’ll bring this topic to our crochet & knit guild to help us all begin to understand how we might begin identifying ableism in our community, and how we can become more accessible. Thank you!

This was a great discussion. In addition to font size for patterns, font size is also very important for websites and emails. I have found that some designers use very small hard to read font sizes for their emails and don't pay attention to contrast.
