Glad it’s not the LAST LAST episode and just a break! Been binging every episode to get through my working week and love the effort you all put in Great to have industry experts who can offer some insight reviewing these movies. The Jennifer’s Body vid is probably my favourite. I’d love to see more movies that are more than they appear like But I’m a Cheerleader :)

With respect, I'm glad you discussed that this movie wasn't "made for you". Because it really wasn't and that was fairly obvious with your reaction to the film. You nitpicked one of the most crucial parts of the film. That the dad was not the clear bad guy. He was the very definition of toxic fatherhood. Supportive when you were keeping him happy, dismissive or worse when you weren't and worst of all, never taking responsibility for the damage he caused. Many of the men I know who watched this film were shaken and wept openly, myself included. But I don't fault you at all. You're expressing your thoughts and opinions, which everyone is allowed to do and should do. Just glad that at the end there was some self-reflection on the fact that you didn't quite "get it" and since this isn't your life experience, it's probably not a bad thing that you didn't.

Possibly the thing you are approaching in this conversation is, better don't (over) analyze Lanthimos' ideas in search of a core. Not only occasionally, it might turn out to only be advanced baking with a lot of dressing it up, very sweet marchpane without a bite, hence without a core. Initially, I liked the film a lot. This is seeping away now. And there is a whole section in the movie, which you lot didn't address explicitly: the idea of becoming a whore (in need of income), and explore female sexuality in that.

There is no humour in this film. The casualness of their daily lives, at times, feels absurd. That's not the same! Good line: Like the world right now! But we're not allowed to make that finding/ analogy more specific. The current butchering has an accepted rationale, and the wrong word could get one prosecuted. The same butchering somewhere else though - a whole different story. (It's about taking sides, not explanation. Tell me your bias, and not what is the argument.)

I think a big issue with spending additional time on the deaths is it both plays against the Father's pathos, and would turn this melancholic story of brotherly love into a story ABOUT the tragedies.

The only negative for me is that aside the Harley Race and Fritz NONE of the characters look even close to the actual wrestlers. And Kevin WASN'T the most muscular or tall. Kerry was, and looks tiny in comparison to Efron. That Ric Flair looked ridiculous.

Hey, just discovered yall and watched this breakdown, I have an incredible story time for you guys! So back in December, I was going through a lot of tough moments in my life. I basically had a lot hit me at once, my whole family had lost their jobs, I was working multiple jobs back to back to support them, I was dealing with a horrible sickness, got into trouble with law enforcement, was contemplating suicide, etc. But aside from that, I had gone out with my friends to watch this movie when it came out, not knowing anything about the family or wrestling. After walking out the theater, I went down a 3 month rabbithole of interviews/documentaries based around the family and wrestling in general. After so much time, I had built a newfound appreciation for the craft of wrestling and the way the film had come to fruition. I just wish a lot of people knew the real backstory, timeline, what Sean Durkin had to do in order to fulfill Kevin's wish for the movie and to make director decisions to compensate for the actual film for people to watch and enjoy. After watching so much of Kevin's past and current interviews, one quote that he said that just continued to inspire me was "It takes guts to live, not guts to die." His overall outlook on life just reminded me to live life and to cherish the time you spend with the ones around you. I decided to get 3 tattoos in his honor. It took many months of reaching out to people to get to him but he was finally able to see them. Funny enough, when I finished up the tattoo session, he had seen it and it just felt like a full circle moment for me. I've never been more happy in my life since then. I personally had a lot of connections in terms of the topics of suicide, depression and brotherly love. What I took away from Kevin and the film ended being 3 life rules that I live by now. Rule 1 is never expect 100% out of people 100% of the time or else they can never be themselves 100% (You never know what someone's going through). Rule 2 is don't give a shit what other people have to say because by the end of the day, it's yourself that makes or breaks you. Rule number 3 was that we value different values, at different values (One thing can mean more to another).Cheers!

I'm on my knees please watch the Vice documentary about the family. It's in one of the episodes of the Docu-Series dark side of the ring. If you think the movie was amazing, then you need to watch the documentary because there were so much things they left out of the movie that makes me feel like one day this should become a four episode series. It’s a tragic story, but one that is compelling nonetheless.

I felt the same about not being able to truly connect with the emotional stuff, whilst I was observing it as completely tragic. I feel like it's a directorial choice to keep it slightly on the surface so people don't walk away too depressed or sad. They could have gone a bit further with it. But having said that, it's still one of my top films of the year.

I really think both parties, the ones who criticized the movie for "hating on men", and the ones who praised it for "super feminist message" got it wrong. I don't think the movie is that much "modern" by today's standards which is really good as it can resonate on some levels with everyone, both Barbies and Kens were portrayed rather nicely as flawed but generally innocent beings trying to figure out real life problems. Most of the movie's message is very equality second wave feminist centered with couple of scenes which are being interpreted as super feminist and relatable but are just sarcastically funny, and I think Greta did it on purpose, at least for the most part, cause everything is so over the top here. For example everyone is talking about patriarchy, but they don't have faintest idea what it means, even Ken who thinks it's all about horses, and don't realize you need real competence in real life to be in charge, also you have some spoiled gen-Z calling Barbie fascist, earlier some weird catcalling scenes where random people on the beach are suddenly predatory towards strangers in colorful 90' clothes. Even Gloria's monologue, the scene that is supposed to be the most empowering and moving was kind of ridiculed cause it was used for "disenchanting" Barbies so they could then overpower Kens using "enchantment" of their own in form of childish emotional manipulation. And don't forget that whatever happens in that world doesn't really matter cause all the power structure, all the degrees, competence, ideas are just fake, that's why at the end Barbie choses the real world to really live with all ups and downs of being a human. There's certain level of criticism there on ideological bubbles, echo chambers, culture gender wars, and call for everyone to figure out their own path whatever it is, and I wish it was more clear for the people. Overall it was a fun movie and the best way to experience is it's with the brain switch off a little bit because it's mostly dark comedy that people made it into something way more than it is.

Love it. Nothing like 90's Disney movie magic 😇 I think the main reason I keep Disney+ is to watch movies like this. That trip down memory lane is needed every once in a while. And it's crazy to think that this is what got Lindsay Lohan to where she is today. I had no idea at the time that she would become such a sensation. This has been one gobsmacking series for sure. You all are making some huge moves, and the future is only going to get brighter. Love you all, have an amazing summer, and see you in the fall! Also, I want to be a seat-filler at the Oscars when Daisy wins for her role in that movie.

(had this essay pre-written ever since you announced the season finale) A memorable ep to conclude Season 5! At times, children are thought of as immature, impulsive, and annoying, who can add a burden to relationships, and even be a cause of break-ups, but this film proves how the very same children can mend those relationships. ❤‍🩹 Aside from my parents and best friend, I'm not really on informal terms with anyone, and those three aren't available all the time, so I often walk alone, making nature my companion. Whenever I see children radiating the environment with my energy, I'm reminded of my own childhood days. Starting from when I was about 8, whenever my parents had any disagreement (thankfully, minor ones), I used to talk to each of them individually and counsel them. When the disagreement got resolved, they made sure to give me credit for stabilising their relationship. In the present, when I have a disagreement with them and my maturity is questioned, I remind them of those days, only to be told that they would have mended anyway. 🤣 In their defence, I did get my power over words from them and mostly was just reiterating what they had told me earlier. Seeing those children, I'm reminded that while I may not be able to live as a carefree child anymore, I can certainly incorporate a sliver of childlike optimism into my mindset. In terms of enjoyability, FFC for me is on par with my favourite movies and TV series, with each season surpassing the previous one. Eagerly waiting for a record-breaking Season 6. 🌟

Until recently I only knew this movie from quotes and SNL-skits, but I saw it a few weeks ago. I was surprised that it was the adaption of a German classic by an author I enjoyed reading as a kid. I didnt know how often and in how many languages it has been adapted. Incredible. I actually didn't realize that Kästner is so well-known worldwide. The film is funny, but the middle is a bitdragging. I really have to look up the old children's book now. Unfortunately I have almost no memory of it... PS - according to Wiki there have been 3 Movies before (!) 1961...

I grew up watching these guys wrestle in Texas. I knew the history. I didn't break totally down until Kerry shot himself. I remember the day I heard the news when I was a teenager. Another flabbergasting episode 🎉! So refreshing to see a British film masterfully incorporate South Asian culture. The Bollywood Maar Dala (lit. Killed Me) song especially caught me by surprise, because I'd been hearing it since childhood. I've only acted a little, and have seen even shooting regular dialogue scenes requires so much effort, so I can only imagine what it takes to shoot fighting scenes. Stuntpeople deserve all the praise, but the actors too have to maintain a certain level of fitness and fighting choreography for the stunts to look convincing, which FFC's Maisie certainly did. In a world of two-handed greatswords, she shined like a star with her one-handed rapier and eastern fighting techniques. I still have trouble reenacting her sword sequences. 🤣
