I saw every Sturt game in 1978. Only one loss to west Adelaide in home and away season..The tragic loss to norwood in the GF by 1 point..a very quiet long drive from football park to morphett vale.. i was 12 years old...oh how time flies

So according to Peter Landy, Glendinnings's first kick was 55m out and the second one 60 - I'm prepared to wager that he gets his snags cooked by the guy off "Snatch".

The Peckers had some real opposition wreckers in those days.....Blight , Sewer , and Holland and Huppatz etc.....Many of the other clubs , however , had more ....I will always remember my times at the loveliest suburban ground ....Woodville Oval .

Crowd this day was 31,000 - the atmosphere alone when these suburban grounds were packed was worth more than the price of the ticket.

Gary Malarkey was a Champion for Geelong and capable of beating anyone...else apart from Roach. Daryl Sutton for North shown here was bigger than Malarkey but still towered over by Roach and he had a great spring as well with an accurate and long kick. Richmond actually had all of Roach, BT and Jacko at the club at the one time and it kinda seemed to cause problems in that they all shooda been playing.

Letting Wood go was one of the stupidest decisions the Tigers made.

Any idea why they did? I was watching Essendon when he went there and we couldn't believe how good he was - both he and Kink. My North uncle reckons Greig is the best player ever but l watched their duels carefully and know for a fact Wood was better - you can see in the Clip the utter disdain Wood has for him and the defeat shown by Greig when he hangs his head. Wood would be the best player in the League today by a mile and would probably play CHF.

Remenber watching him in the reserves and thinking "magic". Skill level was obvious from early on. Remember one occasion where his opponent dropped the ball on to his foot to kick it and somehow Gags yanked the ball in mid air and ran off with it.

Great stuff. I collected Carlton Scanlen's football cards and at one stage had the entire lot. I bought the majority from Just Collectibles on Chapel St and from Rick at his little bazaar on Glenhuntly Rd. He's incredibly knowledgeable and friendly.

I couldn't have him ahead of Winmar or Flower but l do remember Richmond people being upset Greig won the Brownlow in 74 ahead of Bartlett and especially in the face of the fact that Greig never beat Wood once. Wood is in my best 40 of the last half-century- he really was THAT good.
