At the 12 second mark you label the laser. At the 16 second mark you label the beam splitter. There is a lense between the laser and beam splitter. Why no label for the lense??? It is critical. Without it no interference pattern. I tried to build my own interferometer based on your presentation. Leaving out the lense is very misleading.

Hi I’m working on a KZbin video discussing Faraday’s Law, and your demonstration is fantastic. Would it be okay to use a brief clip of this video to help explain the concept in my own content? I’ll make sure to credit you and link back to your channel. Thank you for the great work, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Why is the beam which is reflected by the beam splitter go through it when it comes back, instead of being reflected again like the first time ? Makes no sense really, as the material and angle remain the same. So what changed ? Also, can you cover the mirror on the right, Im currious if you will see anything on the wall, since the other beam seems to be reflected back into the laser by the beam splitter, after its reflected by the lower mirror. Or only half of it is reflected back into the laser ? But then the mirror on the right also refracts half of it back into the laser. Which causes the same interferrence as they combine, plus an aditional one with the new laser beam. How is this setup accurate in measuring the interference, if two quarters of the previous beam goes back into the laser and interfere with themselves and also with the new beam emmited by the laser ? It seems like a total mess.

Did you figure it out? My textbook mentions that for the returned (initially reflected ray) once again a split does happen that is some portion is reflected and the other is transmitted, but only the transmitted one is relevant to us. But that just raises another question if 50% is indeed reflected back then doesn't it interfere with our coming light?

Why use cesium, isn't radioactive? I thought the original experiment used silver atoms.
@NoahFect
@NoahFect Ай бұрын
They would've used Cs133, which isn't radioactive. As for the choice of cesium versus silver, long story but suffice it to say that S&G had a REALLY hard time getting their experiment to work with silver. Cesium is easier to ionize with the hot wire that he shows briefly, and once ionized, it's much easier to detect.

PORCA MISERA .
