Why no controller? Im thinking of purchasing this but the Protools tutorial is seriously lacking. Does it not work with a midi controller in pro tools? If i have to be reduced to drawing midi, i might as well stick with my Waves vocodors.

Also some of the drift you observe in a few patterns may be a result of inconsistencies in the clock of the MPC (Bpm isn’t consistent on the machine Dilla used) and the fact that the MIDI was sequential at the time (two notes couldn’t really play at the same time, but instead one after another, very close but not at the same time).

Actually you should read the book. You’d learn that for starters he used an MPC that just couldn’t render unquantized programming because of its PPQN definition.
