Could you run the 11-36 with a smaller tire so it doesn’t rub?
@chuckrodgers478037 минут бұрын
Cut the cassette in half, use the biggest 4 gears shim it out ward . There must be a fix in there somewhere . You don’t need the little gears anyway .

Can you try a sram automatix 2-speed automatic hub in combination with a truvativ hammerschmidt 2-speed crankset on any bike? Sourcing the parts might be difficult, though, as both appear to be discontinued.

I wonder if you could use a larger spacer, like the ones used to convert an HG to a single speed, and then just use the lower cogs of a mtb cassette. E.g. use the 5 28-51t cogs (which come as a single unit I believe), and put a wide single speed spacer block underneath. Sure, you'd only have a 9x5 drivetrain, but you would actually increase the low gear range, which would presumably be more desirable for a fat bike

ToutTerrain did a joke video of combining a Pinion and a Rohloff.

That would be absolutely insane with all three. The most expensive drivetrain on the planet.

I wonder if you could put spacers on the chain ring to clear that little bit of rub on the 7 speed cassette.

Bimotal motor and i am gone! Try to mount that motor on it....expensive as hell but to have a choice to make from push bike a motorised machine within seconds is really worth to pay extra .....what about dismantling cassette and mix cogs as you wish!? Im glad I sent back the MultiTool I bought. Figured out quickly that it was not doing the job well. I went for the more suitable "wera bicycle tool 3a" - Also made for bikepacking but way more useful in a realistic scenario

Thanks for your reviews. I came here to see what was up with the M.U.L.E. Frame Pack with 2L Bike Reservoir. The idea of storing water in a frame pack is appealing but like you said, gravity makes it a bit harder to get water to your mouth. That was a deciding factor to not buy one. Some wax or dry lube on the zipper would improve the pull. I still use a CB 1.5lt. backpack that only holds the bladder and wish it had a small, zippered pocket. I can place 2 16oz.water bottles in my RockBros frame pack if need be. If I were bikepacking this CB frame pack might be considered.

The only real advantage of a gravel bike is that you will be faster and more agile on pavement and gravel roads that are in perfect condition. But as soon as you start to have a more off-road trail, you will have the wrong bike. Unfortunately, many people only have gravel fever and want to buy one at any cost and do not study the aspects of the bike. The bicycle industry is also wrongly showing gravel as an all-round bike confusing customers. And that is the exact moment when they realize that they invested their money badly 🫰🤑

Hardcore bikepacker until I had a health issue in 2018 that nearly took out my knee. Now I only have about 70% of the power I used to have so switching to a cross country e-bike has basically saved my life. I bikepack amd tour now even more than before pre-health condition. I was a hater of e-bikes, e-cars etc before but now I am a huge fan.

Should be noted that the Confluence's MAHLE X35 system has much longer range than Bosche in spite of having a smaller battery because it is designed to only occasionally and selectively give assistance according to how it is programed. In my case I find I can easily get 150 miles (200 if you flat the battery which you really shouldn't do) between needing to charge if set properly. The MAHLE system only adds about 10lbs / 4kg to the over all weight (plus ~18oz/500g for the charger) of the bike, which while real is a not a massive weight penalty given the usefulness of the system.

circling back months later, how has it handled on the road? Do you think it's a decent option to serve as a road & gravel 1 bike setup? Or do you think the slack geo will feel too slow for rides that are completely on road?
@BIKEPACKINGcomКүн бұрын
It depends on what you've been on before and your perspective. I think if you went with the carbon fork option, it is very well suited as a mixed surface bike.

Top loader all way. I use frame bag for heavy stuff and some easy access like food, but most bigger stuff I need quickly are on ortileb handlebar bag plus. Stuff like puffer jacket, rain gear and some extra biking gear like thin jacket to stop wind. Its also very handy as shopping bag due to it having fixed mount with quick release.

I relied on my phone and trail markings for navigation. The phone completely broke down in the middle of nowhere (battery decided to become a pillow) and the trail was not marked correctly. I was lucky to ran into a farmer one hour before darkness who could help my find my way back. Since that day I carry a physical map and a compass in remote areas as a backup. These things always work.

Those dehydrated potato pouches are around 400 calories per pouch (atleast the cheese one) incredibly cheap and dont take up much space. Calorie per dollar per pound, its a great back/bikepacking alternative to normal dehydrated ready meals. If youre adventuring right, your body will appreciate the salt and carbs.
