how are these taiwan racks so expensive. its welded bent metal poles. each cost more than my bike.
@PunaSquirrel21 сағат бұрын
What's not to love? 1- The rack mounts to the seat post right where my Garmin tail light is mounted. 2- The rack don't have a mounting plate on the back to mount a tail light. WTF?? These are the reasons why I haven't purchased one🤙🏼

I could be miss understanding this, but shouldn't axel mounting drop the rack by about an inch? Not raise it by an inch like mentioned in the video?

I ditched my Garmin 530 for a Karoo 2. Although battery life is really short compared to the Garmin (anyway never too short to run out before the end of any of my rides), the overall experience is next level ! Garmin feels really old compared to what you get from Karoo.

What are the average speeds on the ultra stuff? what’s the average amount of hours the leaders are pedaling per day.
@jedisentinel14992 күн бұрын
Definitely going to clip in for a single speed full rigid. I have a 90 or 91 Schwinn Woodlands MTB . 26” wheel set. Shimano 200gs 3x7 I would love to make that a single speed. Can I harvest any of the parts from that group set? can I install a through axle?

What about a lock? I just got my bike and am setting it up now. I think I'm going to do the Erie Trail first, its like 385 miles.
This sort of reminds me of what Specialized has done on their Roubaix bikes with the handlebar stem, with their Future Shock technology.

Not built around a 29" standard but I just picked up an All-City Gorilla Monsoon and it's one of the most fun bikes I've ever ridden. I'm 100% sold on the monstercross category.

I love my Kona Sutra ULTD, probably have around 8k miles on it since 2019. Its my one bike quiver (commuter, bikepacker, trail rig). I did the ratio tech upgrade and threw a eagle groupset on it, also bought some carbon wheels a while back. I do have a full-sus that I pull out when I want to send some chunkier trail, and am building up a Esker Hayduke because I miss my hardtail days, but the Kona is still my main rig.

I think this FKT thing needs to be put to bed. With reroutes and route changes there is never going to be a standard course and the weather and road conditions are different every year. I did it in 2012 and it was a great experience. Tailwinds to all riders, even the northbound ones!

You overcomplicate it. E-bike range is 25-30 miles driving fast, 50 miles if slow. Charging time is 5 hours. E-bike categories are nonsense, every e-bike nowadays has 28 mph WITH throttle. E-bikes are allowed on paved road, not allowed on gravel/dirt. This is the theory. In practice, there is no policing the trails and no one gives a damn. If you somehow get stopped by a cop, he will be clueless about e-bikes in general. In response, let him try driving your e-bike. It is fun! I consider it impossible to get any kind of ticket for e-bike driving. For e-bikepacking, second battery is a must. Unfortunately, it is 10 lbs. extra weight. Realistically, e-bikepacking could work like this: 1) Buy second battery 2) Drive 50 miles at morning (3 hours) 3) Charge both batteries (5 hours) 4) Drive 50 miles at evening (3 hours) 5) Charge both batteries at night However, this requires some basic infrastructure (power source every 50 miles). A question to experienced bikepackers - is the existing infrastructure capable of supporting this kind of adventure?

Interesting. I use a front rack on a thru axel and have tied down 2 bags on top to that height. I felt like it was hard to manuever through wind with a bag that high and wide. I think there might be better shaped objects that would better suit an areo bar mount but its interesting surface area to consider for sure.

just adding this here for my fellow peasants: I went on facebook marketplace and paid around 60 euros for a steel roadbike with one gear and what looked like quality parts, but no frills. when you have no money, one reliable gear is better than 18 which don't work. I struggled up the hills and pushed when I had to, and when I know exactly how I feel about the need for gears and how to get that most reliably I'll get a deralleur or some kind of hub gear, but at the start my money was tight and just getting started was the most important thing. you can absolutely ride across a whole continent with one gear. you'll probably choose to add some, but don't feel like you need an expensive bike or a complicated gearing setup to start. the tyres on my bike were junk so I bought the widest schwalbe marathon plus's that would fit the road rims and it has been great so far (for roads only, so far).

Alexandra made the point of being a respectful, kind good person as a racer. That needs to be emphasized for all bikepackers and backcountry cyclists. Cause yeah it only takes one asshole to make a landowner or local pissed off at all cyclists and want to run them off the road. Cycling is a community and we all need to be kind.
