About sandals, the Quechua ARPENAZ 100, usually sold on Decatlhon stores, weights 538g on number 42 (EU/BR). Guys, that's strong sandal. Have using one pair have five years. Very adjustable, very confortable for 20km+ walks and hiking. Very good also for cycling.

I was never into caring about weight until I got a ss cyclocross bike. It's amazing how fun it became to climb. I love that it makes my local pretty mild trails a bit harder and more challenging, as you said, you gotta think ahead. I'm not converting my hardtail to a ss set up. Also, I love the comradery of ss riders. You just automatically make friends with other ss riders. Downside. I tend to find myself ahead on climbs and behind on flats in group rides.

For an existing Tailfin user the way this integrates withtnheir frme bags is suberb. I have their previous top tube bags and they are great. On an mtb with sloping TT geometry I think a long TT bag is perfect, especially, as you say, smaller main frame triangles limit frame bags. Undecided though on a gravel/allroad/road bike where standover height room is very fine. OK if contents are soft, but the thought of crown jewels impacting a tripod make me weep!

@5:18 does "by hand" mean none of the cartridge bearings in the hub shell or freehub need a puller or press tool to remove or install? Also, I'm considering getting a 2024 Canyon Spectral CF 7 that comes with DT Swill M1900 wheels that have the 6 bolt method of rotor mount. The DT Swiss site only shows a Centerlock mount M1900 wheelset though. So can you tell me exactly what model of hub that bike has, and will I need a puller or press tool for the bearings? Lastly, do you make a hub that is both straight pull spoke design, AND tool free bearing maintenance? Thank you

So, I'm a (very) old-school bike TOURING guy....probably being doing it longer than many of you have even been alive. And being so, I'm often pretty stuck in my ways. But I also do some bike PACKING, using a more modern/current approach. A couple of bits stood out to me in this reviews. The first being panniers. It's VERY hard for me to break old habits on this front. The main reason, as I see it, to go with bikepacking type gear rather than panniers is for when I'm walking/pushing a bike, which just ain't fun with panniers. When I am using bikepacking bags at these times I'm glad for it. But yeah, I gotta admit, panniers still have a lot of benefits (and in fact I do use them bikepacking - small ones - more often than not). The pillow. Yep, I've used clothes stuffed into stuff sacks for decades. But about 2 or 3 years ago I finally decided to "try something new" and bought a Nemo Fillo. Much to my shock and surprise I absolutely loved it. Ain't no way I'm ever going back now. Feel kinda stupid for holding out for so long. Neil, this channel and your content are fantastic. I've learned and enjoyed so much. Thanks for what you do here.

I’ve been using the Tumbleweed for the past couple of seasons, and only using the seat packs for shorter over-nighters. Troll and Grappler have their own rear racks, and three or four packs rotate between the rest of the bikes based on the ride/trip. I’ve also had good luck mounting Anything cages to the three-pack mounts on the legs of the Tumbleweed racks. Lighter loads mostly, and narrower than panniers.

The Tributary needed to come with either a minimum 725w battery..& or it needs to be removable. This way you could purchase a 2nd 725w battery to carry with you. 620w, like I think it currently is offered with might have been ok...except the battery is strangely not removable by the user. That makes no sense for a potential long distance rider. The 250w extra add on bottle type batteries they have available for more range just seem like a bandaid for not making the main battery removable. As someone who's wanting to potentially ride 100 mile rides on routes that aren't completely flat..they'd need to take 2 bottle style batteries along to be sure to make it. Why not just make the main battery swappable Salsa?.

awesome you stressed the zipper types, they are the weak link for every bike bag, tent, and jacket I have ever owned. I will take big clunky one handed operation zips that are fine with being over stuffed every time even at the expense of water tightness over the small toothed weather sealed ones... easy enough to use cheap dry bags inside on them for anything that cant get wet. Nothing is really water proof anyway, once you get a season or so most things tend to get far less water resistant.

I think manufactures could design compliance or stiffness into a frame put of any of the materials if they really wanted....but to do it well they would have to make bikes not just in size but also for weight ranges so thats never going to happen. What is compliant for 145lbs racer would be a wet noodle for a 200lbs weight lifter of the same height. I have never had a chance to do a back to back on the exact same frame in different materials so I am more comparing apples to oranges. closest thing to a "test" was my gravel bikes, had aluminum, steel, and carbon for a few months before parting out and/or selling my old ones....with my preferred fairly large 42c tires I could not feel any difference in "ride quality" *actually the very low cost aluminum one might have been the most compliant/comfortable while seated as it had the most sloping top tube so that showed a lot more post. Just to many variables to have a meaningful opinion about material, the frame design, tube shape, wall thickness, and tube type would all make a bigger difference I would think and thats not even taking into consideration the large volume tires most run now. My wife has a low cost mass produced State 4130, Im sure she could honestly claim steel is stiff and harsh (its a TANK) but if she had a vintage steel Raleigh she would probably think steel was flexy and forgiving... oranges and apples.

If you only go out every now and then or weekend trips battery packs and battery operated devices are fine. But if you’re doing longer trips, lots of trips or on the bike a lot then a dynamo is the best way to go. While you can just have a light connected to dynamo it can get a lot more complex. USB chargers, cache batteries, switching and wiring harnesses. But once done it’s a set and forget system that you never regret getting.

Too much fuss and fiddle with frame bag systems hauling gear. They're fine if you're fast enough to cover big distances between resupply if you're racing. Otherwise, racks and panniers are simple, durable, no zippers, more capacity, easier organization. Comparing weights vs frame bags, I got 1.4 pounds more total weight for racks, panniers, front and rear (weighed both sets of mine). Bonus, weight is centered lower on the bike with panniers. Contrary to recent belief you do not have to fill panniers, but the capacity is there when you want to haul something special into camp like water or beer. Happy trails ☮

It's a little bit weird, when you use a $150 bag and put <$50 things in it and use less than 10 days a year. when you just ride a day, need < 3L luggage, normal frame bag works overnighter / 3-5 days light travel, need 10-20 L luggage, frame bag and long seat bags work, maybe add a bar bag for longer travel, just use racks and panniers, more spared little bags makes more mess.

Nope, not for me. Even regular top tube bags are a mild annoyance when pedaling out of the saddle and standing over the bike in general, the full length ones would be a nightmare. They're also quite expensive for an objectively very small storage space...150 USD for 3 liters? That's nuts.
