I'm totally with you! It got hard for me to get into games these days but man... I was just sucked into this game. There were many cozy habits I knew from, exemple, Stardew Valley, which made me feel right at home, but there were also so many more quality of life changes I wouldn't miss and made the experience even more special! I might agree that this game is even more fun than Stardaw Valley but as of right now it's hard to tell. So far I love the characters, the content, the soundtrack (it stuck in my ears for days now...), the graphics and so on. Still on winter iny ear one. Taking my time to take all in. If I had on complain really... it was the chests if you wanna move those and they spill out all the items.... that's a little hassle but other than that? I'm so happy and can't wait for the future updates. Thank you for your great video!

Full agree with the take that it can surpass SV, and really, one of the major things for me that i feel proved this was the characters, literally not since Rune Factory 3 have i seen characters this good

i agree so much re the dialogue. I love stardew, but the characters just dont have very much to say and you can only speak to them twice a day (one of them you have to give them a gift). but dialogue changes depending on what the character's doing, what time, where they are, and who they're with. it makes them feel so much more alive! i love the animal ranching options too with breeding. my horsegirl heart was so happy we could get more than one horse!! the only thing i'm a bit bummed about is that other than a few sort of flirty lines, we dont get that many indications the romancables are interested? everyone is already so friendly (except march) that it's hard to parse them getting friendlier to us rather than them flirting. and like i said, everyone is already really friendly, so it kind of feels a bit flat in a way. the characters sort of lack an edge or tooth to them that i like in my games. still tho: love it!

I was SO ready to disagree with the title because Stardew Valley has been my favorite game since it released. But I tried Fields of Mistria recently and I actually think this has the potential to be the best in this genre.

This is long winded but I promise I have a point! Tl;Dr Fields of Mistria has a lot of my favorite elements from Rune Factory, Animal Crossing, and Harvest Moon in a way many games have promised to but failed in the past. This is everything I have been looking for in a game. My first favorite game was Harvest Moon: More Friends of Mineral Town on GBA. (Franchise now known as Story of Seasons.) After that, when the first Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon came out on Nintendo DS, THAT became my favorite series of ALL TIME. When Rune Factory’s developers went bankrupt, it seemed like Rune Factory 4 would be the last game in the series, and man what an amazing game that was. Each of the RF games had their own quirks, but RF4 had a town level up system, and when you earned Prince/Princess Points, you could unlock additional features in the town like: new festivals, giving stores more variety in their merchandise, unlocking new stores, even advertising your town to attract tourists. Additionally in RF4, the NPCs dialogue was SO ALIVE. There would be random events, sleepovers, constant new dialogue, constant references in the dialogue to recent events in the storyline advancement/ recent festivals- I cannot describe enough how ALIVE Selphia was. With the town’s pancake-loving Elder Dragon Ventuswill as the central figure of the town, a compelling storyline, fantastic dungeons, cute farm animals, and being able to bring townspeople to fight alongside you once you befriended them- Rune Factory 4 had SO MUCH going for it. I unfortunately missed the memo that Harvest Moon had become Story of Seasons, and Harvest Moon games got so unplayably bad in comparison to their former glory. I was yearning for something new and fresh with all of the elements I loved about these series in the first place. I tried Stardew Valley and I enjoyed it a bit, but I felt like something was missing. Never even made it to courtship in Stsrdew, just couldn’t get into their NPC cast. When RF5 was announced, I was ecstatic! The company was back in business. My favorite series was going to deliver a new title for the first time in like, 10? 15? years. Unfortunately RF5 is easily the worst game in the entire RF franchise and I didn’t finish it. It had a decent story, but the NPCs were so dull and lifeless, the dungeons were confusing and annoying at times, the home decorating portion was clunky, and the map just felt too big. I even tried FeyFarm. FeyFarm is so cute with pretty fun dungeons, but again, the NPCs are lifeless automatons. I cannot WAIT for Fields of Mistria to be a finished game. I’ve been waiting for a game like this for SO LONG. I’m 15 hours in and it’s reminding me so much of playing RF4 for the first time. I am in LOVE.

i agree!! stardew took a few days to hook me, and hook me it did,, but fields of mistria blew it away. i LOVE speaking to every single NPC and the attention to detail and dialogues boggles the mind

This game feels like it took all the annoying things from other sims and made it better 😁 Also love the vibe of the environment and the dialogues between characters.

I wasn't sure about this game in the past but that was mostly because at the time the only thing I knew about it was 80s/90s anime inspired art style & magic that semi made me think of Sun Haven or a magic based mod for Stardew Valley.(Sorry it's just there wasn't much to go off of at the time) I'm glad to see that there's way more than to this & even more to see eventually. I'm trying to save up for stuff at the moment but if I get the chance I'll probably by the game & play it when I'm not busy. Some of the things you mention in this game great & it'll be fun to try getting rare colored farm animals.

One thing I’m slightly worried about is how long it’ll be? Because some farming sims have a set end, I think harvest moon did, and some are infinite, like stardew. Which type will Mistria be? Because with the way the dialogue works, it’s FANTASTIC, but, they’ll have to start recycling eventually right? Unless they write enough for like, 5-10 in game years? Unless it has a set ending where you just can’t play anymore? I’ve only done stardew so im not sure how harvest moon worked exactly

Great video! Honestly my personal only con about this game is how fast the time moves. I absolutely loved how Sun Haven did it where there was a slider to make the days longer or shorter so that you could go at more your own pace, and I'd love to see that implemented in Fields of Mistria because at this rate honestly it's becoming my favourite game in this genre.

I absolutely love this game, but I don’t know if it was a glitch in the game. My gripe is when it’s the players birthday. It felt kinda awkward because I was expecting a cut scene or at least when I spoke with a villager they would wish me a happy birthday. Nope, so it kinda made me feel a little sad. lol

I actually kind of like that it’s in early access ONLY BECAUSE I’m really bad about putting off decorating my farm until I have nothing left to do. So by that time I decorate then just. Quit. At least this time I’ll decorate when I’m done with everything then my farm will already be decorated when they update the game down the line. 😅

I personally like the shorter days, keeps me on my feet and doing thing which I enjoy but I fully understand people do don’t like it that way. I hope if they do decide to add longer days that it becomes a setting to be turned on or off so that everyone can get the best of shorter and slightly longer days when they want it

I haven't played this myself but when the lack of things to do at the spring festival was brought up, the first thing that came into my mind was unique minigames! Real life festivals in small rural communities have carnival games, competitions, tombolas etc

Since Haunted Chocolatier is supposedly in the same world as Stardew, I feel like the painting world isn’t the world of Stardew.. if HC is already part of SDV. The painting world is just… a painting of the “real” world HC and SDV are in. I’d like to think the town of HC is just very far up north from wherever SDV is. That’s just what I’m thinking for now.

For me it's been a great experience especially with the crafting. I don't need to have multiple machines, crafting tables, etc. Because of the global chest it eliminates the need for a mod like in Stardew Valley. The fishing is so much easier to do.

I really love the dialogue and how the characters interact with each other to not be so static. I love that the game rewards the use of quest boards and crafting. Cause it was very easy to neglect it in stardew and coral island. Both which I enjoyed. Only thing is I wished for a little less grinding for rock and wood. Where the chopping and mining can go a little faster

My only issue is with the combat. It's very clunky and the rock throwing enemy is the bane of my existence fr Otherwise, I'm persuaded this game is going to be better than Stardew valley. Especially when it comes to it's characters. Truly the heart of the game. I played all sort of farm sims game and I never really got attached to any of their characters, but FoM? I genuinely want to interact with them and learn more about their personalities and stories.

Was it starbound? Cuz lemme tell you I was so disappointed in starbound. Also I do wanna say aaaaa I’m so excited for more hearts update on this game cuz after you hit the heart cap it does leave you wanting more with them :’)

The $14 price tag is so awesome for right now. It’s better priced than some other EA farm games. And it doesn’t feel like it’s unfinished(as of Fall 15). I love the game so far, and I’m excited about more updates to the game. I have experiences slowness, but no crashing. I play on a laptop, so I’m blaming it on the hardware. The game has so much to offer, and I feel like it’ll probably be the new “Stardew Valley”. My only gripe is Olric being locked….i want me rock himbo. We can have a rock collection together ❤

The short days have been my main issue with the game so far as well :') it gets really stressful once you have a lot of animals, because by the time you finish visiting each barn/coop, it might already be noon. Beyond that I've also noticed that the activity orbs that give you points for skill upgrades will sometimes take a second to pop up, and if you're running around sometimes they won't go to your character in time and you have to run back to them. I really hope they can fix that.
