These are the numbers for the Open era - started in 1968. Laver and Newcombe had many more titles when their amateur slams are included.

Mixing pre and Open era titles are kinda skewing the results. Before the Open era, sometimes wining a title meant just but 1-2 opponents, very weak ones.

Do titles mean more than slams. I really think the slams have more prestige. Which is why Serena is second to Margaret Court and since Court won her 24 in a different era that's debatable. However Novak Djokovic is lauded as being the best with his 24 slams in this modern era. However especially in this modern era titles do earn money even without slams.

Steffi did it 8 times. What tournament winning percentage does Serena have? Steffi has a 50 % one.

@@guyinsf Steffi still had the strongest opposition ever during her career. Stronger than Court, Evert, Navratilova, Serena. She won the Golden Slam in 1988 even though Navratilova was certainly the best #2 of all time in the late 80s. Plus Steffi’s career was cut short (retired shortly after her 30th birthday!) due to injuries. I won’t even dwell on her unique off-court distractions. All that is the reason why Steffi is generally seen as the greatest ever. Even in the USA (!) more and more fans and experts agree now.
