Hello again Marie glad to hear that you enjoyed the Episode despite this one being listed as Episode 18 on your viewing order it was in fact a very early episode produced 4th in production order after "Breakaway" "Matter Of Life And Death" and "Black Sun" while the format and characters are still being shaped and established. So this would have been the Alphans very first encounter with an Alien Race. Despite this Episode not being one of the first series very best i have always liked this one because the feel and atmosphere of it is different in particular the Music Soundtrack and Cues which were not produced by regular Series Composer Barry Gray but by Series Music Editor Alan Willis and Musician Vic Elmes who is credited on every Episode of Series 1 but only in fact contributed to this single episode. The Voice of the Tritonians was provided by Prentis Hancock (Paul Morrow). The Main Mission set undergoes the first of its configuration changes in this early episode with the four main viewports shifting position further in to the corner also also being a very early episode David Kano has still to have his own revolving desk.

This episode doesn't " grab " me either, Marie-Clare. However, saying that, it is still worth watching and very enjoyable to see such great actors, giving great performances.

Hi Marie-Clare I dd learn there was the possible talk of retaining the archer Hal as a companion as well as Sarah Jane I am not sure if the actor Jeremy Brett was keen to stay on in Dr Who as a regular or whether he was not free to do so. I thought when the human villain Irongron was killed by Linx, with his raygun it was no loss as Irongron was such a villain his deputy Bloodaxe was not very smart. I thought the outfits Sarah Jane wore in this story were well awesome in billions of ways and she was one companion I always liked .

I say this is an awesome story for the introduction for the new female companion Sarah Jan Smith, and she is awesome in billions of ways . Linx is very brutual towards his prisoners, and also he is determined to mend his ship and leave Earth asap. I like the green jacket the Doctor has in this story, he wore it in Carnival of Monsters, Frontier in Space and the Green Death .

I think Marie-Clare the Doctor has encountered Sontarans before offscreen like he had with the Cybermen as he stated in the Cybermen.s debut serial the 10th planet when he recognised the planet Mondas as the sister planet to the Earth and how the humans would soon get visitors from Mondas which were the dreaded Cybermen so the Doctor would have visited Mondas before the very first Cybermen were created . I like the archer Hal he is awesome and levelheaded like Sarah jane Smith is, and the Robot knight is awesome too.

Hi Marie-Clare in this story the new villain Linx the Sontaron is awesome, and also the location is awesome too at Peckforton Castle I went to that location and it has not changed much in all the years since the filming for this story was done there. I also liked the robot knight Linx built for Irongon, and also Hal the archer is quite a smart lad, he was in the first Doctor story the Space Musuem as Tor he was awesome in that role in and he survived at then end of the story which lead into the third Dalek serial the Chase .

Hi Marie-Clare I saw this story when it was aired in 1973 aged 4, and I like the new female companion Sarah Jane Smith she was the second companion I saw in classic Dr Who. I also liked the new villain the Sontaran Linx, and he is an awesome villain too, and this story replaced the story originally intended to start season 11 called Automata not much is known about this story Marie-Clare it might have been a possible 3rd Auton story but there is no information available for this story.

The incidental music used in this episode is from classic Dr Who stories, Meglos, Logopolis and Resurrection of the Daleks . I like the sets in this story, they are awesome, I think it was a shame Anthony Ainley did not reprise the role of the Doctors Time Lord arch-enemy the Master I also liked the control room in the Masters TARDIS it is awesome .

Hi Marie-Clare in this story I noticed in the Dalek ship there were computer banks that were similar to the disguise, the Master used for his TARDIS in the Time Monster . I also in the year this was broadcast was aged 30 and classic Dr Who was still in limbo and had been for the past 10 years and I for one had little faith it would ever come back on tv given how Dr Who started in November 1963 and ended in December 1989 and when it ended I was 20 years old and in my first job since leaving school in 1985 aged 16 . I also liked the sets in this story the ones on the Dalek ship are awesome, in billions of ways and the way the Dr regenerates several times is awesome .

Hi Marie-Clare in this Dalek serial Planet of the Daleks, the black and gold Dalek Supreme was awesome in billions of ways and Terry Nation who invented the Daleks for Dr Who was not keen on the two Dalek stories with the second Doctor and he disliked the creation of the Dalek Emperor in Evil of the Daleks and he therefore wanted the Dalek Supreme instead of the Dalek Emperor . Terry Nation also disliked the Power of the Daleks and thought the Daleks in that story were farcial and portrayed as been too polite and too friendly as well . I just say Terry Nation was not very imaginative when other writers wrote Dalek stories instead of him. I am glad Jo did not leave the Doctor and went back in the TARDIS hopefully back to her own planet Earth in the 20th Century.

Hi Marie-Clare this story is certainly full of elements from the black and white Dalek stories particularly the first story the Daleks and the Dalek Masterplan . I also liked the scene where the 2 Daleks were pushed , into the pool I also liked the scene where the Thal girl Rebec hides inside the Dalek to get the Doctor, Taron and Codal disguised as Spiridons into the Dalek city. In the first Dalek story the male companion Ian hid inside a Dalek casing to help him and his compnaions escape the Dalek city.

The way the boulder was pushed down the shaft was similarly used in the Daleks, when Ian, Susan and Barbara shoved a statue into the lift in the Dalek city and also Vaber is impulsive and hotheaded silly man .

I remember in the TV comic which featured the Daleks on their own and no Doctor, they were lead by an Emperor Dalek who was short in stature and squat shaped his casing was metallic gold and his spheres were also gold and his head was beachball shaped with 7 or 8 red lights on the top. In he was awesome in billions of ways .

The Dalek army are Louis Marx toy Daleks, and they were four and and half inch and six and a half inch in size and they were previously used in the 2nd Doctor Dalek story Evil of the Daleks in the civil war between humanised Daleks against normal Daleks under the command of the Dalek Emperor who was about 30 to 40 feet tall and immobile and connected to cables attached to the walls and ceiling on Skaro and the Dalek Emperor in that story had a huge eyestalk and no gun arm and no sucker arm either .

In the year 2009 when this serial and the previous serial Frontier in Space were released on DVD I was 40 years of age and I liked it so much and it was nice to see the third episode of this Dalek serial colourised and also the scenes of the Thals in the ice tunnels is a lift from the first Dalek serial. I wish the Dalek army was 10,000,000 or even 10,000,000, 000 in number I wish we at times could have 10, 000, 000 or 10,000, 000, 000 Cybermen in an army that would be awesome in billions of ways.

The scene of the Doctor and the Thal scientist Codal wrestling the Dalek in the cell was seen in the first Dalek serial, the Daleks and also the Daleks disabling the Doctor with their guns was a callback to the first Dalek serial the Daleks where Ian tried to run away and the Daleks diasbaled him with their guns.

I like the purple jacket Jon Pertwee is wearing in this story there are so many elements in this, story which are a callback to the black and white Dalek stories with the first Doctor and and also the Dalek Masterplan too which was the last Dalek serial in the 60s to be penned by their creator . I do like the jungle sets and the sets to the Thal spaceship they are awesome in billions of ways. I also like the Thals too, their outfits are awesome as well, and the sets for the Dalek base are awesome too.

The Dr been ill is like a callback to the black and white Dalek story in 1963 when classic Dr Who started on tv with William Hartnell and the first Doctor and his three companions Ian, Susan and Barbara had radiation sicknees on Skaro and needed drugs for it. In that story the Doctor sabotaged the TARDIS fluid link to see the city, and also they teamed up with the Thals to defeat the dreaded Daleks . I like the Doctors jacket in this story he started off, wearing the light green jacket he wore in Carnival of Monsters and Frontier in Space and his purple jacket the has changed into it is awesome .

Hi Marie-Clare in the scenes where the Master is using his hyno sound device on Jo causing her to imagine seeing a Drashig, a Mutt from the Mutants, and also a Sea Devil was awesome it was said that Jo would also imagine seeing an Auton . It would have been nice to have seen an Auton, an Axon, Bok, Azal the Daemon or even a Dalek or an Ogron. I liked the scene when the Doctor appeared as an illusion of the gold Dalek leader who had also appeared previously in the Day of the Daleks . I was sorry Roger Delgado made his last appearance in this story, as the Master he would have he lived have returned for a final story in series 11 , it would have been a 6 part serial called the Final Game in which the Doctor and the Master as arch-enemies would have had a big final showdown, and the Master was to be killed off in a huge cosmic explosion and it would be said he sacrificed himself to save his arch-enemy the Doctor and other people . The showdown was to also reveal the true relationship between these two arch-enemies that they were either brothers or different aspects of the same person. It is a shame in billions of ways it did not ever happen but then, had things worked out that way would the Master have been killed off and laid to rest permanently one of these things we will never know for definite.

This story having the, Master in it was awesome in billions of ways and he posing as a police commissionaire was awesome too. I was shocked he did not have his TARDIS with him given how the Masters TARDIS had both a fully working chameleon circuit allowing it to change shape colour and size wherever and whenever it lands unlike the Doctors TARDIS which always stays in the form of a blue London Police Box and also has a defective steering mechanism unlike the Masters TARDIS . I also liked the Masters outfit, in this it is a shame in billions of ways Roger Delgado did not live to returrn for his planned finale in the following series which would have been a 6 part serial entitled the Final Game and in that story the Master would team up with an alien race to try and conquer the Earth and in the 6th and final part of the story he would be blown up in a huge cosmic explosion and he would be revealed to be either the Doctors brother or another aspect of the Doctor a darker version of the Doctor. The Doctor himself would be seriously injured thus triggering his 3rd regeneration and thus had the Master been killed off in the series 11 finale it begs the question would the Master as a villain have just ended up been a Jon Pertwee enemy only would any Doctors after the 3rd Doctor ever have encountered the Master, plus would any actors who have since played the Masters ever played the role of the Doctors Time Lord arch-enemy and finally would any Master story after Roger Delgado died ever been made . I suppose it is possible the Master might have been laid to rest permanently, and possibly new Time Lord villains might have been devised as a new Time Lord arch-enemy for the Doctor who knows.

I like in this story there is a female president ruling 26th Century earth, is awesome and she is awesome and sci-fi in the early to mid 70s rarely had female arch-enemies and or women in powerful positions . In some ways this Dr Who serial is like what classic sci-fi series Blake,s even would have been like had, Blake,s Seven been made in the year this story was broadcast and in Blake,s Seven there is a female arch-enemy who is also the series principal villain called Servalan she was to start with Supreme Commander of the Terran Federation and later president of the Terran Federation I say arch-villain Servalan in Blake,s Seven, was an awesome female arch-enemy and returning arch-villain she stole the show and outshone the heroes much as she a the series main villain and arch-enemy of Blake and his crew who stole a powerful spaceship they named the Liberator. Blake,s Seven is an awesome sci-fi series and well worth seeing if you have not seen it .

Hi Marie-Clare in this awesome 3rd Doctor serial, with Jon Pertwees favourite Dr Who enemies, the Draconians who he preferred to enemies like the Daleks and the Cybermen who did not have expressions on them he also liked his Time Lord arch-enemy the Master very much . Jon Pertwee was saddened deeply when Roger Delgado died a few months after this story aired, and also Roger during the making of this serial requested his next serial after this be his final Dr Who story he was keen to have the Master killed off and go out of the series with a bang not simply fade away into obscurity so the Master could one day return to the series.

Hi Marie-Clare I liked this story and the Draconians who were Jon Pertwees favourite enemies were awesome and also I read in a magazine that the Cybermen were originally to be the allies of the Master instead of the Ogrons and also the Daleks would still appear and they and the Cybermen would be working together but the Dalek creator Terry Nation would not allow the two most popular Dr Who monsters his Daleks and Gerry Davis and Kit Pedlars Cybermen to appear in a story together so the Ogrons were used instead as the Masters allies in this story . I also found it sad that Roger Delgado died a few months after this serial was shown, he when it was been made told producer Barry Letts and script editor Terrance Dicks he was wanted to leave Dr Who because he was finding getting work outside of Dr Who and he was no longer the principal villain in every story of Dr Who like in his first series series 8 he was in all 5 stories of that season and the then production team decided to use the Master as a villain more sparingly so he would appear in one or two stories of Dr Who per series . Roger felt doing Dr Who was restricting his work prospects so he wanted the Master written out of the show in a permanent way, it was intended he would return in a six part serial called the Final Game which would have ended season 11 and killed the Master off in a an enormous cosmic explosion similar to the death of the renegade Time Lord Omega in the 3 Doctors . As Roger died in a terrible motorcar accident in Turkey these plans were scrapped and the Master was rested as a character for 3 years until the Deadly Assassin with the 4th Doctor where the Master was all decayed, deformed, emaciated and multilated .

Hi Marie-Clare in this Dalek serial the way the Daleks are killed off, with the Movellan virus which causes foam to come out I imagine it was foam rom Fire Extinguishers , and also the amount of people killed off in this serial is similar to what happened in the Cyberstory Earthshock when several humans soldiers and civilians were killed off and slain by the Cybermen and even their black androids . In both stories there is a high bodycount, of people been killed off here and there. The war between the Daleks Davros,s Daleks and the black Supreme Dalek Daleks was a lift from the Evil of the Daleks with the 2nd Doctor when he engineered the civil war between humanised Daleks and normal Daleks. I also notice with the flashback scene it was similar to the mind analysis machine the Daleks strapped the 3rd Doctor to and in that story we saw images of the first and second Doctors here we see images of the previous Doctors and their companions as well. I could not blame Tegan for running away at the end of this story given how upset and disgusted at the violence and the deaths she had seen . The male villain Lytton survived and went back into his police Sergeants uniform and rejoined his police buddies.

The black Dalek Supreme is played by John Scott Martin, who played Daleks back in the Chase in the black and white series with William Hartnell he also played a Zarbi in the Web Planet and also a villager in the Daemons he even played the virus Nucleus in the Invisible Enemy. The voice of the black Dalek is by Brian Miller, who played Dugdale in the mara serial Snakedance he was also in the Blake,s 7 episode Horizon was the assistant Kommissar and he was Liz Sladens real life husband. The story has some huge death scenes in it, and the Dalek troopers outfits are awesome the way Commander Gustave Lytton impersonates a Police Officer a Sergeant is awesome too.

I found this Dalek story very violent and like the 5th Doctor Cybermen story, Earthshock there were many people killed off and the body count was high and also the duplicates of the humans been clones the Daleks created was creepy. I liked the sets on the Dalek spaceship a battle cruiser and the sets on the space station holding Davros prisoner, and also the return of the black Dalek Supreme with white spheres instead of dark blue spheres and also the Dalek Supreme we last saw in Planet of the Daleks was black and gold his dome like his spheres were gold and he survived at the end of that Dalek serial. I learnt the black and gold Dalek Supreme in Planet of the Daleks was a film Dalek from the Peter Cushing film Daleks Invasion Earth 2150 AD.

Hi Marie-Clare in this Dalek serial, the way there are two factions of Daleks, this element was originally used in the 2nd Doctor story Evil of the Daleks when the 2nd Doctor humanised millions of Daleks and started a civil war between humanised Daleks and the Emperors Daleks . That element was recycled in Resurrection, Revelation and now Remembrance of the Daleks . I also thought the way the little girl is in the power of the Daleks was scary and also the black Dalek Supreme is back but this time with silver spheres instead of white spheres like it had in Resurrection of the Daleks. I also Marie-Clare will say that the location is awesome and the sets in the Dalek spaceship are too awesome too and also the amount of explosions are awesome too. I also know the actor who played the Headmaster, Michael Sheard was in Dr Who six times first he was Rhos in the Ark with Bill Hartnell, then as Dr Roland Summers in the Mind of Evil with Jon Pertwee, then twice with Tom Baker first as Laurence Scarman in the Pryamids of Mars and later as Lowe in the Invisible Enemy then with Peter Davison as Mergrave in Castrovalva and now in this serial as the Headmaster with Slyvester MCcoy and also with Paul MCgann on a Big Finish story the stones of Venice. Michael Sheard during his Dr Who appearances, he appeared with all but two of the Doctors in the classic era of Dr Who Patrick Troughton and Colin Baker a shame in a way but there we are.

Dr. Who was originally suppose to be an educational show which is set in past and future. Creator Sydney Newman insisted on no bug eyed monsters but when as soon as the Daleks turn up it became a massive hit and it became the show we all know and love today. Without the Daleks this show would had ended in 1963 it keeps evolving.
