Could you do a live devoted to locking and securing stitches? You mention locking, but it remains a mystery to new users of sergers/coverstitchers

First. Love the video 💕 I Just took apart a pair of gap leggings for an alteration, they serged the elastic on the top And flipped it over twice with a cover stitch. As you can guess it took a long time to take apart. But excellent construction.

If I use the coverstitch do I need to stretch the elastic?
@deborahcanham26186 күн бұрын
Yes whichever method you use you need to stretch the elastic to fit the fabric.

I had two beautiful 16yr old Boston's that both recently passed away. They were my entire life! You would love Boston's as they are so gentle:) I hope to make this bag bc its the cutest bag in the world! You are the best teacher Deb. Thank you so much for all your tutorials. I'm waiting on your next 6-month club to start:)💜

I use this method all the time (that I learned from you in a leggings class). It never fails; sometimes I need to replace elastic in older garments and do it this way. 😊. The zig zag finish on the sewing machine is quick and easy…match the thread and it almost disappears. Love your advice about waistband placement on pants! Adorable doggie tail there 🐶🥰

@@deborahcanham2618 Thank you dear. My serger is very old. Is an Envy. It works wonderful. I made eleven table cloths. With ruffles. I turn 80. July the 8th.

Cutting from the fabric reduces stretch and cleans the edge nicely. I often serge on top of the first stitching to yield a double stitch and cover up the stubble which appears on the width of the fabric.

Is it possible to serge the elastic into a 1 piece romper?
@deborahcanham26189 күн бұрын
It depends where you are putting it. If you are talking about the waist, which I think you are, I do not think so but I would need to see the pattern.

I made a quilt with the serger L890, and loved it, so much so, i decided to get the QE, and i think its so fun and creative, it makes so much sense, and it can cut fabric and different blocks! I am so happy with this whole concept.

Love this, what a great video! I’ve done a bit of piecing with my serger and the idea of a “jelly roll race” just popped in my head. My 3-thread overlock does a perfect 1/4” seam…alas I don’t have a Babylock or Bernina, just my old my Pfaff 4875, but thanks to your lives and classes over the past few years I’ve found the accessory feet for it and use them. 😊. Thank you as always! ❤

I have used my serger many times for binding using that iron on thread. Love
@creativitybycarilyn6634Ай бұрын
I have used my serger to go all around the edge prior to attaching my binding. It holds everything in place, trims off excess and creates a hem line to fold over to. I also loaded an iron adhesive thread to one of the looper cones and used it to iron baste my binding edge.
