Is the new DBX 160XT is as good as the OG DBX 160 VU ? Also about the Dolby nr trick hardware, there a great plugin that do it good, its called Dopamine by overloud audio tools, Audiothing as one too but I didn't hear it, Ive watched your video and hearing dopamine was simillar, didn't hear them back to back though. (but also it cost like half of the hardware)
@RiotHomeRecording10 күн бұрын
Compression wise yes it’s as good, as far as the circuit sound it’s self. I think the 160 sounds a tad beefier. If that makes sense. I’ll have to look into that dopamine plug in. Thanks for the info!!!

You absolutely need to throw a moving blanket or mobile sound wall in front of your rack gear when mixing or the amount of high end and mid mess is gonna really screw you up man.

Good to see you back, brother. Great studio tour, I love your space!! Very comfortable looking and very functional!! I love the SM 98 right over the kick beater, Steve Albini style. I’ve got a pair of those AKG d190e’s as well. I use them for the spot mic on the ride and on the hi-hat. I’m curious, what does that Yamaha kick drum mic, sound like? Is it similar to any of the usual suspects? D112, Beta 52 etc?? Looking forward to whatever you put out next.
@RiotHomeRecording10 күн бұрын
@@TheGarageRecordingSC thank you very much! I’ll have to try the beta 98 over the kick! The Yamaha MZ-204 (kick mic) has a very punchy sound to it. I’ve been using it’s for 20 years as a kick & bass guitar mic. It almost has a compressed sound to it. I want to try the Beyerdynamic dynamic TG-70 and Audio Tecnica ATM-25. I’ve had the D112 I preferred the Yamaha MZ-204 over the Akg d112. There’s lots of great kick mics out there. A 421 is good on kick too.
@TheGarageRecordingSC10 күн бұрын
@@RiotHomeRecording There are a ton of great kick mics for sure!! I’m currently using the E602 from Sennheiser. It’s kind of like the D6 but I feel like it’s got a little more weight. It’s definitely pre-eq’d for rock and metal. I use that as the front of kick, just inside the hole, and then the Sm 98 is hanging right above the kick beater. For sub lows, I’ve been really liking just bussing the kick drum microphone to Steven Slate trigger 2, and using the sub kick sample from a Queens of the Stone Age sample pack. It sounds really nice, and it’s easy to set up without needing the sub microphone and the extra input.

Forget all this plenty talk of which sounds better I can sense people on here who don't have analog gear and never used one before trying to make themselves feel good cause mixing in the box is all they have I can understand that but y'all can be deluded or trick your ears or lie to yourself into thinking that mixing in the box is better hell no from what am listening to the mixing board sounds wider fuller thicker and most importantly grittier than the rest of the mix period I don't care what any plugin manufacturer says it's all for marketing and shit.
