Wow, this is really good! I wasn't expecting to find such a well thought-out translation of one of my favorite songs in Japanese (especially since it's not that popular, haha). As someone who's currently studying the language, even though my skills are still severely lacking, it's very helpful/interesting to see how certain words and phrases were translated. This is a song that I've listened to many times, so here's a few more things of note about the lyrics! • "Alas, the muses through their glasses" -> in ancient Greek mythology, the muses were the inspirational goddesses of the arts, mythology and science, whom singers and poets often called upon, invoking them for assistance, protection, and inspiration. •"If we can't raise the dead/We're going to raise hell instead" -> due to the themes and religious overtones of the song, I assume this refers to the Christian myth of Lazarus of Bethany, whose life was restored by Jesus after his death. Generally speaking, however, the "dead rising" is also a common theme in Christianity as a whole: the belief that through God, life after death/a second chance at life will be possible. (It's likely also a reference to a line from Vergil's Aeneid: "If I cannot move heaven, then I will raise hell") •"Paint me in a portrait sans/The fig leaves, the fig leaves" -> this verse is, additionally, another biblical reference: in The Book of Genesis, when Adam and Eve ate from the fruit of knowlege, they grew ashamed of their own nakedness, and covered themselves with fig leaves. The author asking to be drawn "sans the fig leaves" could refer to how she yearns for her childhood, for her innocence and naivete that she has long since lost. •"I miss the days when stars where saintly/name the powers meteors..." -> in biblical imagery, "stars" are often representative of angels, or even said to be an angel's physical form. The "star" that "moved across the sky", and lead the wise men to Jesus in Bethlehem is in fact believed to have actually been an angel. In addition, though the lyrics are a tad vague here, "powers", according to angelology, are angels belonging to the 4th choir in the hierarchy of heaven, tasked with defending humanity from the forces of hell. I've always taken these verses to mean something along the lines of "those 'angels' in the sky are just stars and meteors, just naturally occurring phenomena". In admitting so, those "powers", aka those "angels", fall from grace. Personally, I interpret this song as the singer's desperate attempt to fill the void left inside her, once all her dreams and beliefs were shattered by science. The final verses give me a feeling of "oh, what the hell, whatever- if none of this means anything, and we're nothing but animals, then let's just do whatever we want!" Basically, a last ditch effort to find meaning and purpose, even in a world that seems inherently devoid of it. (All in all, I find myself deeply resonating with the lyrics, since I can relate to a lot of things the singer is saying... so I may be projecting my own feelings here- just a little bit, lol) Also, this comment ended up being longer than expected, oops. I hope it was at least somewhat informative/insightful, and not just a snooze fest haha! I also hope that one day, I can come back to this video with a better understanding of the Japanese language, so that I can thoroughly appreciate the translation/the work that was that was done. 今はまだ日本語うまく話せないんだけど、これは本当に素敵だ!!! そして、ビデオがとってもかっこいいね。これからも頑張ってくれ!!!

Thank you for your excellent comments! I know what “Muse” means, but I keep wondering how to translate it. There is no corresponding Japanese word. I think “インスピレーションの源” is closer to the original meaning, but as you can see, it is too long. Additionally, it doesn't sounds cool for Japanese. “Muse” is a word I like very much, so it is very frustrating that I can't translate it well. I think of creating a new Japanese word for “Muse”, lol (I wrote about it in my translation of Sonnet to Science by DPR). As for your other points, I didn't realize that due to my lack of study. Your interpretation is very interesting and I would like to add it to description box. May I? You made me love this song more. Thank you again!

@@fzune-2532I'm sorry, I tried replying, but it seems as if my comment keeps getting removed, and I'm not sure as to why... which is frustratrating. So, I'll keep this comment brief(er): yes, you absolutely may add it! And I'm very happy to hear that I was able to reignite your love for this song! I hope it'll become more popular someday.

個人的に「キャンドルが燃えている」のくだりはギリシャ神話のイカロスの翼とも掛けているのかなと思った 太陽=天に近づきすぎたせいで崩れてしまったバベルの塔やイカロスの翼と、思考放棄して科学を使う現代人の末路は同じ…みたいな
