Thank you for taking the time to review the SP11. I watched your video on my wife’s iPad Pro whilst waiting for my new SP11 to set up. I’m going to buy the flex bundle. I need to mark up documents. I’m not that impressed with the browsing, but it could be to do with outlook downloading my 20 year old gmail account. The screen is more reflective, and I can see the micro dots, which is a little distracting. However, even though this is my personal device, it’s replacing an iPad Pro 5th gen 1Tb Cellular, which I actually use more for my work, than leisure. I tend to work random hours on top of working days. Being in bed or on the sofa and marking up or reading documents, is my use case. I present several times a week and use Excel. That’s followed by watching videos, if I have some time. I broke my iPad Pro by dropping it on the charge cable. Apple wanted £979 to replace it, saying it was a sealed unit. The replacement was a refurbished unit. When I asked the “genius” how they can refurb a sealed unit, and if they can refurb it, why can’t they replace my charge port?……..The Genius couldn’t answer but his eyes agreed with my assessment of “ripping people off”. So I refuse to give any more money to these thieves. The only thing is I hate windows as an operating system. I prefer MacOS. However, ipadOS is the biggest pile of sh1te on the planet! Since my use case involves more work related tasks the surface makes sense. Only time will tell if I made the right choice! BTW, the kickstand is amazing!

Hi Chris, Thanks for your honest opinion on these 2 wonderful devices. I just have one doubt, Will the OLED screen have any benefit over the LCD screen when I am using only it only for productivity tasks taking notes in one-note and not for media consumption? Apart from media consumption, does the OLED screen have any extra benefits in terms of note taking ability or the the touch screen responsiveness. Would love to hear from you. Thanks

I would say the OLED is going to provide the best "experience" but otherwise for general use, about the same. Also, I don't believe you can get the higher specs with LCD.

I use the iPad as my main productivity device. You cited an example of attaching files from an email to an email you want to send to someone else. Very simple. Open mail and go to the email with the attachment. In Split View, drag another session of mail onto the other side of the screen. There create a new email. Drag the new email to the side to create a floating window. Drag the file from the first instant of Mail to the body of the new message. If you need to add files from other emails or from the files app either go to the other email or drag a files window to the side where the original Mail pane was. Find the file, drag it to your new message. I don't think it's a problem with iPadOS, I think it's your unfamiliarity with iPadOS that makes it feel limiting.

iPad has tandem OLED, so the screen is better. Much brighter on the iPad. But if you want a full desktop OS, the surface pro would be for you

The OLED on the iPad is superior for sure but both are wonderful. If al I was going to be using it for was consuming media (watching KZbin, browsing the web, etc...) I would choose the iPad. If you plan on using it for more productive tasks (emails with attachments, word processing, excel, or really anything more advanced the Surface Pro would be the choice. Basically.., other than a few specific apps - the surface pro can do everything the iPad can do.., the iPad cannot replace the productivity element of the surface. But of course the best scenario would be - To get them both! :)

Hi Chris thanks for the video,it's refreshing to get a very unbiased proper review, like you said so many people are only in one camp Windows or Mac, so they just ignore the other products, for me as well for work the surface is annoying brainer winner , I watched you surface laptop review and it along with some others made me feel confident about buying one ,so I did and I love it. It's like my old XPS as it's super high quality i have the 15" so it's not exactly as portable as your surface pro but that's not important for me. I've subscribed and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your nonsense content 👍 thanks again Jon in the UK

Thanks for the note! I still have my Surface Laptop and love it. The quality of the build, battery and snappiness of the system is amazing. My only gripe is that it's not quite powerful enough to handle my photo/video editing workflow.., for that I still need to bring out the Macbook Pro if I'm doing it away from a desk.

Can't justify keeping both and I like the surface pro better, mostly due to the tablet/keyboard setup. I also prefer the OLED on the pro, even though the laptop has a very nice sharp LCD.

I see no point in having the Bluetooth keyboard instead the standard one, if I attach a monitor to it, I’ll want a standard sized Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. The only case would be someone that wants the screen far away from the keyboard but there are very few that need it. Let’s see the sales. I had a SP8 and it’s great but the extra price is of no worth, too big for a tablet, on your legs less comfortable than a laptop. The only use case would be for designers/creatives that draw and in that case, this is a must because the Surface Laptop 7 supports no pencil.

I too was anticipating it to be a gimmick but like I said in the video, it's turning out to be quite useful. I'd say that even when using it as a normal computer, I probably use the surface with the keyboard NOT attached more than attached.

The speed is due to 2 reasons. The CPU and the RAM speed. Single core performance of 2,800 according to Geekbench 6. That competes with workstations (portable supercomputers). The RAM speed is 8,448 MHz per second. That is currently the fastest in the tech industry for RAM. Makes multi-tasking super fluid.

Many complain about fan noise on other laptops. Can you find out if it's the emulation that heats up the device so much? in this case it's the fault of Prism emulation. It would be interesting to compare the same software in arm and x86 and measure the temperature difference. Thanks in advance

That was One of the things I was most impressed by. There is almost no fan noise even when I am doing photo editing. If there is some fan spooling up it is nowhere near anything like my 2023 HP spectre. You can tell it's significantly more efficient just by the little bit that it warms up.

for work in machine learning and data science what do you believe is a better device, this new surface laptop 7, or a macbook pro m3 pro (not the max just the pro). Need a new device to work in that space and struggling to decide. I am not familiar with what type of software is used for machine learning. There is no question that the M3 pro would be the more powerful out of the two. That being said if you prefer windows maybe confirm that the software is built to natively support arm, and if so by a surface with additional memory. Even with how great this PC is I will still be keeping my MacBook for the really heavy duty tasks.

@@shinynewgadget5163 The real problem with any ARM based computer running Windows is that you still need another one based on Intel's x86/64 architecture due to many programs not running properly (or at all) via the Prism translation layer. Given that Copilot+ PCs don't really offer anything a user absolutely must have, it makes the decision to purchase an Intel based laptop fairly easy.
