Thanks so much for this. I'd replaced a cord years ago by taking down the blind and restringing the cord. It was awful. This time it was 2-1 rail and would have been a nightmare. Thanks to you, I was able to coax the new cord through the route. The old cord was frayed and kept sticking but I wouldn't allow it! Just to check, it would have been over $300 to place a new order. Today I earned $300, minus the cost of the cord. (And gained some self-esteem.)

Thank you for this video. I’ve thrown away one or two of these heaters every year because they stopped working but I’m going to try this now!
@Fixitforgetit18 күн бұрын
My pleasure. Some of my heaters are 150 Watts and some are 500 watts. As a result, they sometimes blow my GFI plug when I have a few items on the same plug. I tried an Ikuchelife birdbath heater and it was only $9.99. It comes in either black or white. So far it is working very well. Since it is only 70 Watts it hasn't been blowing the GFI plug like the heaters in this video did. The only downside is the short 3-foot power cord but it is so cheap I can live with that. amzn.to/4g9kktS

I started feeding the feral cats that moved onto my property, but 2 in particular have gotten pretty close, staying on my open front porch. I got an old cooler and laid it on a chair they had been laying on with the door propped up onto the arm of the 2nd chair with another large closed cooler between them that I put the food on. I put the chair cushion inside the cooler. I put a blanket over. It isn't completely covered since I didn't know if they'd know it was there or go inside? After a few days, today, I saw both go inside. I will see how they react to covering more or all the way with a flap or part of a blanket. Still a work in progress. I just thought this might be a quick & easy solution for someone else.😊🐆🐆

Can you use insulation board for the outer box?
@FixitforgetitАй бұрын
If you are talking about insulating between the inner and outer boxes I think there would be enough room for that. There probably won't be enough room to insulate between the top of the inner and outer boxes. I only had enough room for a thin covering of straw on the top.

You're welcome. Thank you for caring for your little feral. I always dread seeing the winter come because I worry about them staying warm. Thank you for your reply to my question. I read of few of the comments below and see that you haven’t had success yet getting your ferals to use the houses. One possible issue is the size of the door and the fact there there is a flap. It’s great for heat insulation but may discourage cats from using it because they don’t want to feel trapped or vulnerable to predators. I had a cat house that I used last year, and as soon as I attached the clear plastic strip flaps in the door opening, the cat refused to use it. Just a thought for you to consider. Thank you again!
@FixitforgetitАй бұрын
Thank you for your kind suggestion. I have another video on my channel where I took one of these shelters and added a second door for an exit. I then cut the flaps in half so it is very small. I also took a bungee cord and raised the flap way up on another shelter. I have seen evidence that our favorite feral has gotten into the shelter with the small flaps and exit door. One reason she may not be using these shelters is she is spoiled. I gave her three manufactured shelters with a heating pad in each one of them. She loves them.
@saltyqueenАй бұрын
Hi there, thank you very much for this video, and thank you for caring about feral and stray cats! I purchased a cat house similar to the one you linked from Amazon. The walls are made of a layer of wood, a layer of plywood and, for the interior walls, there is an insulated sponge liner insert included. But there is an insulation gap around theinterior top of the shelter (the roof lifts off) that could let a lot of cold in. We live in northern VT so it gets very cold, and I’m worried about this. Any suggestions? I’m thinking about adding an additional layer of the reflective material that you used in your cat house to the entire interior for extra warmth, and maybe even a layer of some type of insulation board beneath that. maybe I could just cut that same insulation board to fit the gaps around the edge of the roof. Thanks for reading!
@FixitforgetitАй бұрын
Hi saltyqueen. Thank you for your kind comment and thank you for caring for the feral and stray cats. I have never used this insulation but it is affordable and looks interesting. amzn.to/4ewRfqF You could also try some foam insulation from Home Depot.

Would have be really interested in the details of how you fix the big horizontal crack on the left hand side of the wall. The ones on the right are all little holes that are easy to fix. The ones on the left are harder but you only showed the details for those little holes on the right unfortunately lol
@FixitforgetitАй бұрын
Hi Tom. If you have a larger crack you may want to check out the video at 20 minutes in. You will see how I repaired a fairly large crack. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZm9mmijrMeNjsk If you have a larger hole I would backfill the hole with DAP Alex Painter's Acrylic Latex Caulk amzn.to/3jCuneN . I like the Acrylic Latex Caulk without silicone or any other additives. It doesn't expand or contract much, can be used indoors or out, and cleans up easily. Aim your caulking gun at an angle and squeeze some back behind the vinyl siding all around the perimeter of the hole and continue to backfill the entire hole but do not fill it all the way up until it is even with the siding. Keep it about 1/8 of an inch below the surface of the hole in the siding. All you are doing is making a base for the Bondo All-Purpose Putty. Let the Painter's Caulk set up for at least 24 hours so it is good and hard. This caulking doesn't expand or shrink much and should be a good base for the putty. After the Painter's caulk has completely set up you can fill the rest of the hole in with a top coat of the Bondo All-Purpose Putty. You will have to work fast because this stuff has a very short open time of about a minute or less. I would have a small putty knife ready to immediately pull the mixed putty off the mixing cardboard and work it into the remaining hole. It won't matter if you have to work fast and get a little extra putty buildup on the hole to make sure it is all filled in because the putty is easy to sand down. After sanding trace in your wood grain lines with the dental tarter pick, clean it with denatured alcohol, and paint it. I hope that all makes sense and good luck with your repair.

@@Fixitforgetit now it is a lot clearer. I wish you have explained in the video. it is sort of a gap around 21:45. Thank you! I have a giant Tom cat that has been displaced-“Big Red”- after more than six years under a neighbor’s house. He isn’t all the way feral, but now he comes for food twice a day and it’s getting cold so thanks for the video! I have a wooden cat litter box so I was trying to figure out how to glue the reflectix to the wood but I like your idea much better. Big Red had it made for a long stretch- keeping the mice and rat population down a couple houses down where a person raised rabbits but property sold and no more rabbit food- no more rats- which is good. I hope The Cat will accept the lodging. You make it look easy- I’m pretty sure mine won’t come close but I’ll do my best. Thanks again.

Could the dam be placed on the other side of the shower door? Hard for my door to swing in.
@Fixitforgetit2 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, I think it would simply fill up with water and make the problem worse if it were placed on the inside. I don't know if you have two doors like I do but if you do you could place the dam on the door with the leaking problem and use the other door. Simply leave the door with the dam alone and don't use it. If you don't have two doors I can't think of a way to make a dam work in your situation. I hope you are able to figure something out. I know how frustrating this is.
