Is there any chance the IJF will bring back leg grabs similar to this ? I watched a KZbin video about how they will release the update on rules for 2025 but it was very vague on what it will be .

Excellent! I missed those techniques, it makes judo more complete. Thank you for sharing.

Weren't the previous "no leg grabs" rules forced by the Olympics comittee because judo was becoming too similar to greco-roman wrestling and would have been thrown out of the olympics if they weren't changed?

This is a great video. Check his fights when he fought at world juniors. Some throws were just crazy

I love these rules! It allows all of my favorite leg grab techniques while stopping Judo from just looking like wrestling.

Allow the opponents to fight for longer time on the ground (ne waza). I trained 50 yrs ago and in competition most of the matches were won on the ground .

IJF needs to change, whats the point in completely removing a part of Judo that's just limiting the art.

at 2:45 the contenstant in the white gi lost for head diving, as you can clear see the ref stating that at 3:09. Where did you get that you lose if your opponent falls on their head??

Wrong about yuko, we know from experience that yuko and koka just creates sloppy, unrefined, lazy judo. We all understand the argument for lesser scores and the argument even makes sense, but it doesn't work that way in practice and competition.

I talked about it with my sensei yesterday... he speculated that it may be a testing ground for the IJF. Maybe they want to see how thing goes and introduce them back on the international scene if the results are conclusive. Personally, I admit the "one hand on the gi" rule is a good middle ground.

Nah, the new rules sound better in my opinion. The old rules allowed judokas to spam blast double legs. The defending judoka would either get pushed out of bounds or get taken down. If they are out of bounds then the referee resets them just so they can try it all over again until they did score an ippon. Worst case would be that the judoka getting pushed out would receive a shido for defending the takedown by accidentally getting out of bound. The old rule allowed for such anti Judo loopholes. I hated seeing that.

A shame for the referee who does not seem impartial. Ippon can't be after mate. Nagayama are a champion. He lost nothing for me.

"the japanese are known for respect"... not really. Some of them are respectfull, some of them are not ! We are on the olympic games, the pressure is huge. It is very common to say "mate" when the fighter's don't move anymore, notice that one of them has passed out, and then say "ippon". The main question is : did the Spanish judoka really kept on choking after the mate and, if didn't, would have the Japanese eventually passed out ? The referees checked out, may be they're wrong, it happens, but it is clear that the choke was real.
