It may be true that, in case of loss of consciousness during strangulation, there is Ippon BUT, it's also true to say that action should be stopped immediatly when te referee calls "Mate". We can not say that the strangulation started before the "Mate" because, in case the referee thank that the strangulation was ongoing before, she would have left the attack go, she would not have called "Maté" in the first place. She called "Mate", it's a proof that from where she stood, the strangulation was not sucessfull before "Mate". Therefore, Nagayama loss consciousness only because of the part of the attack that was done illegally continued after the "Mate". At the end of the day, in nage-waza, it happens all the time that attacker continuous the attack after "Mate", when that happen, if they successfully throw their opponent, they are not granted "Ippon" for not following the referee instruction, they resume the fight in, the middle of the tatami OR the attacker receives a Shido/penalty. Why should it be differently in Ne-waza ? Clearly this Ippon is not valid and it's crazy to see that the Spanish figther finished is day with a bronze medal after such a huge mistake.

@user-hv5wr9lm9op3 ай бұрын
In Spain, it seems that judo is about competing to choke each other for six seconds after the "stop" command is given, making the other person unconscious. GARRIGOS' coach said in an interview that the rules are the same all over the world. That's not judo. Judo is not a sport where you choke your opponent after a break before the match has resumed. If you knock out your opponent after the final gong, you are disqualified. Kicking the ball into the goal after the final whistle does not count as a point. In Japanese judo, when the referee commands "MATE," the hold must be released immediately. It doesn't matter if the players heard the referee or not. When the referee gives an order, they have two choices: follow it or not. If player do not comply, player will be warned for violating the rules. In judo, three yellow cards means a disqualification. Any dangerous act will result in an immediate red card. GARRIGOS turned his body as the referee approached, trying to hide his own arm that was still choking him. At that point, Nagayama was conscious and expected the umpire to pull Garrigos off him, but she didn't. What the referee did was to ignore she own command to "MATE" and award "ippon" to GARRIGOS for disobeying the command. A real judo referee would have warned GARRIGOS, checked Nagayama's condition, and either allowed the match to continue or disqualified GARRIGOS. When I imagine what kind of judo GARRIGOS normally practices in Spain, I feel very worried about the people who have to face him. Martial arts are the killing technology without using weapons. The rules are there for the safety of the players. If, as GARRIGOS' coach said, Spaniards believe that defeating opponents by committing illegal acts behind the referee's back is martial arts, then Spaniards should not participate in martial arts tournaments. GARRIGOS won a medal, but it's like missing a red light and hitting someone with your car, and then getting a letter of appreciation from the police. Is it really true that in Spain they teach that you can choke your opponent for 6 seconds after the referee's "MATE" command and that you win if you knock him unconscious? Are kids choking each other in judo classes in Spain, pretending not to hear their instructors try to stop them? Who on earth is the idiot giving such instructions? I will never forget how the Spanish media covered up the problems GARRIGOS caused and cut out a clip of him not shaking Nagayama's hand, broadcasting it to the world.
