Is this the best narrative sequence in the history of games? I'd vote... yes.

The first time i ever saw this scene i truly felt my spine tingle, it sent chills to my very core to realize what had occurred and how the world was underestimate and shattered. Ugh the agony of ff14 is the GREATEST fantasy tale written. So much meaning and purpose and so many mysteries answered. Never let anyone say ff14 is boring 🥹
@TheNoMoreHero6722 ай бұрын
This cutscene truly endures as one of the most emotionally manipulative pieces of writing I've ever seen. It is so telling that nothing you see portrayed here is actually happening based on the facts as we know them, (For example, in actuality, the Final Days are stopped, and Zodiark is not receiving new sacrifices) but the developers used all this imagery and allegorical dialogue to make Venat appear far more righteous than she actually is. I'm very glad the Omega quest allows you to say that she was not justified, but this is still impressively constructed in all the worst ways.
@LunaPPK2 ай бұрын
Ok so how would you have went about it lol.
@TheNoMoreHero6722 ай бұрын
@@LunaPPK Well it's not really about how "I would have gone about it," when the writing can bend to fit any outcome if it's what they want for the themes. Like, notice here how undoing tragedy is labeled as a bad thing, but back in Shadowbringers, when Graha Tia does it to save the Warrior of Light, it becomes "If history must be unwritten, let it be unwritten?" You can think Venat made the best choice in a moral sense, if that's really what you want do, but you cannot deny that this scene and the writing surrounding the character use what is basically propaganda to give you a false recounting of events, just so her side can look more appealing and correct.

He was going to receive more sacrifices, though. They were going to sacrifice the new life to him, but Venat and her followers vehemently opposed any more sacrifices to Zodiark.
@TheNoMoreHero67220 күн бұрын
This is not true, and it is not even the stated reason why Venat did what she did. Themis saw the conflict that resulted from the opposition of Venat's followers and willingly left Zodiark to attempt to reconcile and compromise. We hear this from the man himself. Zodiark would not be recieving sacrifices with no one as his heart.
@RidleyUwO20 күн бұрын
@@TheNoMoreHero672 …He was though. Half of the population was sacrificed to create him, half of those who remained restored the habitability of the world, and another sacrifice was going to happen when the world was abundant with life as to bring back those who had given their lives to Zodiark. Venat, disagreeing with sacrificing yet more to bring back those who were lost, and as well as realizing that the Ancients couldn’t hope to defeat Meteion if they couldn’t luv with their pain, then stood opposed to the Convocation. *Then* Elidibus separated from Zodiark to settle the dispute. This is all said in the game.

My hate for dawntrail is the same as my hate for this cutscene (no, I'm not joking) I think this cutscene destroys Venat as a character... Because lore wise, everything that is happening here never really happened at all! This is just a really bad abridged version of the beginning conflict between zodiark and hydaelyn...

I notice that in all of the rift travel cutscenes this is the only one where your WoL doesnt cross their arms to protect themselves and actively reaches for the memory You protected yourself when entering the First, The Void and Elpis But for this fragment of time your WoL wanted to witness, you reach for it without shielding yourself

The original uncensored idea for this cutscene would have been kinda butal NGL. The black oil stuff on Venat as shes walking was supposed to be blood in the original pitch but when the rating commitee saw it they had to bump it to an M rating due to the viscera. as it is is still a FANTASTIC scene, one of the best in the game, I just can't help but think of how rough the original idea would have looked.

It tackles the question of 'why humans suffer'nicely. The Ascians were perfect beings until one of their own wanted more (Hermes). But why should humanity be perfect? A society without desires grows uniform, stagnant and will birth people who inevitably want for more. It will produce another Hermes. Humanity did not receive sin, it received choice. And it's up to humanity to decide what they do with that choice. The Ascians decided that they're already perfect and needed an even more perfect being to save them, whereas the imperfect Eorzeans chose to defy their destiny at every step and succeeded. We are what we are, not out of punishment, but because imperfection is the true perfection. So don't think you're too big to share your burdens. Let us 'Flow Together'.

I don't suppose you'd happen to know if any workaround for these 2 A-presses has been found in the last six years? I've been chipping away at the 0 jumps emblems that were added in a recent minor update, and this is one of the very few levels that seems to be no-way, no-how impossible using the techniques I'm aware of. Since I'm optimizing for jumps, rather than A-presses themselves, using the ice hat in multiplayer to scale walls is on the table, but it seems like the only walls available at the start of this stage are unusable for that particular glitch.

As a student of philosophy, I cannot justify Venat’s decisions. Her robbing her fellow ancients of knowledge, agency, and ultimately lives is unjustifiable. As a parent, Venat’s actions to save “her children” are completely justified. The world be damned, her own soul be damned. The children will get their chance to live, no matter what.
